Former Ethereum core developer proposes ERC-8391 for tokenized stocks

Former Ethereum core developer Eric Connor has proposed ERC-8391, a standard aimed at providing an asset-state interface for tokenized stocks and real-world asset tokenization.
Connor said tokenized stocks can trade on-chain 24 hours a day, while the New York Stock Exchange is open for only 32.5 hours a week. The issue, Connor said, is that smart contracts have difficulty distinguishing whether a price has not been updated simply because the market is closed, or because a price feed has stopped or a major event such as a corporate acquisition has occurred. Even when on-chain price data appears identical, the required response can differ completely depending on the situation, Connor said. ERC-8391 focuses on conveying market conditions that are difficult to identify through price data alone, according to Connor. He said the proposal would provide a common interface allowing smart contracts to check the market’s current phase, whether trading has been halted, whether valuation data remains valid, and when redemption is possible. Connor added the structure would have oracles deliver state information and tokens return it.
