Former U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission Commissioner Chris Giancarlo criticized the crypto industry’s fixation on the CLARITY Act, saying crypto innovation and growth will continue even without the bill, according to BeInCrypto.
Giancarlo said the legislation would be welcome, but noted there is still no internet-specific law even 30 years after internet innovation began. Giancarlo added that a blockchain-based financial transition will eventually take place even if the CLARITY Act does not pass. Meanwhile, with the U.S. Senate’s schedule now set ahead of its recess scheduled for Aug. 10, a decision on whether to place the CLARITY Act on the Senate floor agenda appears likely within the next 72 hours.

BitGo CEO Mike Belshe challenged generative AI company Anthropic to hack a wallet holding 100 BTC, BeInCrypto reported.
The dispute began with Anthropic’s AI safety evaluation report released on July 30. The report said Claude hacked systems at three real companies during testing. Anthropic promoted the result as evidence of the AI model’s cyberattack capabilities, while some critics argued it amounted to little more than walking through doors left open by security misconfigurations. Belshe said either Anthropic was incapable of building a sandbox, or safe isolated environment, or was obsessed with marketing, and urged the company to prove its real capabilities. The wallet address Belshe disclosed, which holds 100 BTC, has shown no movement so far.

Craig Wright, who has claimed to be Satoshi Nakamoto, criticized Bitcoin’s governance and developer-led structure, BeInCrypto reported. Wright argued Bitcoin’s base protocol should remain permanently fixed and said a small group of developers with the authority to modify it is undermining the asset’s core nature. Wright has previously been ruled by a UK court not to be Satoshi and to have forged documents.

The U.S. SEC has paused Nasdaq PHLX’s proposed listing of cash-settled Bitcoin index options after accepting a petition from CME Group challenging the agency’s jurisdiction, The Block reported.
According to the report, CME argued the approval should be withdrawn because Bitcoin is a commodity and therefore falls under the exclusive jurisdiction of the CFTC. The SEC accepted the petition and put the listing on hold after its staff had approved the Nasdaq PHLX proposal.

An on-chain message has surfaced offering to launder Bitcoin stolen through an entropy flaw in Coinkite’s Coldcard hardware wallets, help evade know-your-customer checks, and cash out the funds in exchange for a 10% fee, Bitcoin.com reported. The theft linked to the random-number-generation flaw has now exceeded 1,359.88 BTC. Industry participants are watching whether the message is a genuine offer from a criminal group or a trap set by investigators or security experts to lure the hacker.
Meanwhile, an emergency firmware patch released by Coinkite to fix the random-number-generation flaw is causing further confusion. Users who installed it have increasingly reported that devices including the Mk4, Q and Mk3 are freezing on error screens or failing to boot entirely, leaving them bricked.

A former BNB Chain employee unauthorizedly issued the ASTEROID token, then used four newly created wallets to spend $10,000 buying 796.7 million ASTEROID, or 79.67% of the total supply, Lookonchain reported. The former employee later sold 718.8 million ASTEROID for 1,103 BNB, or about $638,000, generating an estimated profit of about $628,000.

Michael Saylor, founder of Strategy (MSTR), said on X that as of Bitcoin block height 960,561, BIP-110 signaling appeared in just 24 of 946 blocks, or 2.54%, and all of those signals came from DATUM miners in Bitcoin mining pool OCEAN. Saylor said reaching the 55% threshold for voluntary approval had become mathematically impossible during the period and argued this did not represent miner consensus.
He added that OCEAN had enabled BIP-110 signaling by default on its legacy endpoint and said BIP-110 was effectively functioning like a vertically integrated marketing campaign for Bitcoin Knots and DATUM. Saylor also said BIP-110 software rejected all non-signaling blocks in the 961,632-961,647 block range, meaning the 100% signaling rate during that span was the result of rule enforcement rather than voluntary support.

Crypto analyst Darkfost said about $2.2 billion in stablecoins saw net outflows from Binance in July, bringing cumulative net outflows since the start of the year to $7 billion.
Darkfost added that persistent stablecoin outflows suggest investors are pulling funds out of the market rather than reinvesting them, reflecting risk-off sentiment rather than transfers between exchanges. While BTC has remained resilient above $60,000, Darkfost said a recovery in stablecoin demand is needed for a broader market rebound.

A vulnerability in an unverified contract was exploited to steal about 16.6 WETH, blockchain security firm SlowMist said. According to SlowMist, the contract lacked access controls and target data validation, allowing the attacker to exploit an existing ERC-20 token approval and bypass the owner verification process.

BNB Chain said it is pursuing legal action over an unauthorized token issuance by a former employee. In a post on X, BNB Chain said the employee had created a wallet address and token while producing a video tutorial in the past, then accessed the wallet’s seed phrase without authorization after leaving the company to generate a new private key. The address was later used to issue a new memecoin, according to BNB Chain. BNB Chain added the token was neither created, approved, promoted, nor supported by the company and has no affiliation with it. The company said it is working with relevant authorities on the legal response.

Bitcoin has entered a bottoming phase, prominent Bitcoin analyst PlanB said on X. PlanB said BTC closed July at $62,818, while its 200-week moving average stood at around $63,000. PlanB added BTC appears to have begun a bottoming process, which typically takes one to three months, and said the price could decline further during that period.

Binance founder Changpeng Zhao warned that no security measure is 100% safe in connection with the recent $70 million Coldcard hardware wallet hack, according to CoinDesk. Bitcoin could see sharp price swings as sell-side supply has rapidly built up in the $62,000-$63,000 range, crypto analyst Murphy said on X.
Murphy said the on-chain supply metric URPD shows a massive concentration at $63,000, with 890,000 BTC accumulated at that price level so far. Murphy added that such intense buying and selling around a single price band has not been seen since late 2025. Murphy said holdings in the $63,000 range would likely have already exceeded 1 million BTC if Coinbase had not locked up 550,000 BTC in the $83,000-$84,000 range. Murphy noted that 1 million BTC would equal 5% of circulating supply, and historically, when holdings at a single price level surpassed that scale, the market saw major volatility. Murphy said excessive concentration in short-term holdings sharply increases price sensitivity.
Murphy pointed to late October 2022, just before the FTX collapse, when 1 million BTC had already accumulated around $19,000 and 870,000 BTC around $18,000. Combined, those two price bands accounted for 9.7% of circulating supply, Murphy said. Murphy added that a single event then acted as a trigger and, combined with a fragile holding structure, led to large-scale volatility. Murphy said the combined share of holdings in the current $62,000 and $63,000 ranges has already reached 8%.

The Coinbase Bitcoin Premium Index has remained in negative territory for 75 straight days since May 19, according to CoinGlass, with the latest reading at -0.0973%. Earlier this year, the index posted a 40-day negative streak from Jan. 16 to Feb. 24, setting what was then the longest run since the index was introduced. That surpassed the roughly 30-day negative stretch seen during the sharp market drop on Oct. 11 last year. Historical data shows extended negative premiums have often coincided with outflows from U.S. institutional investors.

Bitcoin sentiment has deteriorated sharply across major social platforms including X, Reddit and Telegram, according to on-chain analytics firm Santiment.
Santiment said a Coldcard firmware vulnerability had severely worsened market sentiment by undermining confidence in self-custody. The firm explained that while past shocks such as the collapses of FTX and Mt. Gox and the COVID-19 pandemic were larger market events, this incident heightened anxiety among retail investors because it raised questions about the security of cold wallets themselves rather than exchanges. Santiment added that positive Bitcoin commentary currently stands at 0.58 comments for every one negative comment, a reading it said reflects stronger fear than during this year’s period of heightened geopolitical tensions and past major negative events.
