Bitget CEO Gracy Chen said the U.S. government is unlikely to buy Bitcoin for a strategic reserve, according to Crypto Briefing.
Chen said an executive order signed in March last year limits the reserve to Bitcoin seized through criminal and civil forfeiture, with no other funds committed and no market purchases to be made. U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has also expressed support for the strategy, but no specific purchase plan has been announced. For now, the initiative is seen as largely symbolic.

U.S. Democratic Rep. Stephen Lynch warned the Clarity Act would damage the banking system and weaken the dollar’s value, Crypto Briefing reported. Lynch argued the dollar’s reserve-currency status depends in part on the strength and credibility of the U.S. banking system, and that weakening banks by eroding their deposit base would undermine the dollar’s institutional foundation.

VanEck said a shift in the U.S. debt financing structure could create a favorable medium- to long-term backdrop for Bitcoin. Matthew Sigel, VanEck’s head of digital assets research, said the U.S. Treasury’s share of short-term debt had risen to 23% of marketable Treasuries, above the recommended 15% to 20% range.
VanEck said greater reliance on short-term debt could increase interest costs if high rates persist, which in turn could pressure real rates lower and weaken the dollar over time. The firm added that BTC and the dollar have shown a sustained negative correlation over the past 15 years, suggesting Bitcoin could benefit as a hedge against currency depreciation if the dollar weakens structurally.

Bitcoin’s current bear market may be unfolding about 27% faster than in past halving cycles and could bottom in the fourth quarter of this year, crypto analyst Rekt Capital said.
Rekt Capital said BTC moved faster than the traditional halving cycle during the last bull market, then realigned with the historical pace after an extended correction and sideways stretch, eventually topping out in October last year as expected. Based on BTC’s recent price action, Rekt Capital said the current bear market itself may now be running about 27% ahead of the traditional cycle. If corrections continue to repeat in a pattern similar to past cycles, BTC could either form a bottom in the fourth quarter of this year or establish a higher long-term low than its previous bottom before resynchronizing with the traditional halving cycle, Rekt Capital added.

BounceBit announced that about 286.5 million BB was stolen in a hack that exploited a protocol vulnerability, and that it will permanently shut down its existing chain and reissue BB on BNB Chain as part of its response.
The hacker exploited a vulnerability on the BounceBit chain to steal BB without authorization in 14 instances from nine mainnet accounts, according to the announcement. BounceBit said the issue stemmed from a protocol-level flaw inherent in the Evmos stack. No private keys were compromised, no signatures were forged, and no wallets, hardware devices or exchange accounts were hacked.
Rather than restore the existing chain, BounceBit said it will abandon it. BB will be reissued as a BEP-20 token on BNB Chain based on a snapshot taken immediately before the first theft. The 286.5 million BB stolen by the hacker will not be converted into the new token supply.

Glassnode added that about 2.23 million BTC, or roughly 11% of total supply, changed hands in the range as Bitcoin moved without a clear direction over the past 11 weeks.

Justin Sun, founder of Tron (TRX), said World Liberty Financial’s stablecoin USD1 has sweeping admin privileges that allow tokens to be transferred to another wallet without user consent.
Sun said the most serious issue is that the permission structure could let operators move USD1 from specific accounts to their own wallets or to third-party wallets without approval. Sun added that neither cold wallets nor multisignature wallets could block such transfers, making it the biggest concern surrounding USD1. Sun also said the function was implemented without approval from WLFI holders and amounted to a self-added backdoor. According to Sun, the USD1 source code published on World Liberty’s official GitHub differs from the code running on the live USD1 system, and the issue had already surfaced before the WLFI token launch, with WLFI’s backdoor function added later.

A study commissioned by the National Assembly Budget Office called for allowing a five-year carryforward for virtual asset transfer losses and raising the current tax exemption threshold of 2.5 million won, as full-scale crypto taxation is set to begin in January next year, Edaily reported.
The report also suggested introducing tax incentives to encourage the use of South Korean exchanges, amid concerns that the tax rollout could trigger capital outflows to overseas markets. Key proposals in the study on issues and improvement measures in virtual asset taxation included introducing loss carryforwards, raising the minimum taxable threshold, and setting more detailed standards by category for staking, lending, airdrops and hard forks.

Bitcoin’s apparent demand has risen to 25,000 BTC, the highest level this year, on-chain analyst Darkfost said on X. Darkfost said the current upswing was encouraging because it was being supported by real spot demand, with buying demand now outpacing newly supplied BTC. Multiple indicators have also turned positive, Darkfost said, while adding that further confirmation is needed to determine whether the demand increase is temporary or sustainable. Darkfost explained that apparent demand is calculated using new BTC supply and changes in coins that have not moved for more than one year, which helps show how much long-term accumulation demand is absorbing newly released supply.

Bitcoin has erased all of its underperformance versus the S&P 500 from the past three months after a sharp rally over the past 72 hours, on-chain analytics firm Glassnode said.

Bitcoin’s latest rally may mark the start of a new cycle rather than a simple rebound, Real Vision crypto market analyst Jamie Coutts said.
Coutts said BTC/USD had broken above its prior downtrend line on the daily chart. Adjusted for what Coutts described as structurally declining volatility, the two-day move was the fifth-strongest since 2018, according to Coutts. Coutts added that major bottoms in 2018 and 2019 were also followed by sharp gains after volatility fell significantly, although the volatility-adjusted strength of those rallies was weaker than the current move. Based on past episodes of abrupt price swings, BTC rose more than 70% of the time after 30, 90 and 180 days, while median returns were also higher than during typical periods, Coutts explained.
Coutts also said the macro backdrop was worth watching. After the U.S. Treasury announced measures to buy long-term government bonds, BTC began pricing in the possibility of expanding liquidity ahead of time, according to Coutts. In the short term, Coutts said a heavy supply zone in the low-$80,000 range could cap further gains. The key point, Coutts said, is that BTC appears to be moving again as an asset that reflects the direction of global liquidity ahead of other markets, underscoring his view that the surge is a signal of a medium- to long-term cycle shift rather than a simple technical rebound.
