Limitations of traditional digital tickets

Until now, major ticket reservation platforms have made it challenging for event organizers to streamline the ticketing process for events such as corporate or campus gatherings, concerts, festivals, and more.

Event organizers have thus had to manually send notifications via text messages and emails, print paper tickets, and directly manage overall ticket sales and distributions. The absence of tools to identify ticket holders from attendees also makes it difficult to accurately determine participation and contribution ratios.

Blockchain meets ticketing

But with the rapid advancement of digitized ticket issuance, NFT tickets have been gaining traction as a transparent and secure solution to such challenges. These tickets are verified and stored on a blockchain, setting them apart from traditional forms of digital tickets such as barcodes.

About MakeDrop

Block Odyssey’s MakeDrop is an open service that allows anyone to easily create, issue, and manage one-of-a-kind NFT tickets with individual ownership rights and transaction history. If secondary ticket transactions occur, all ownership changes can be verified on the blockchain, making it possible to block attempts at fraudulent or repetitive secondary trading.

The service is particularly convenient for users, as they can automatically generate a wallet address for storing their NFTs by logging in to social media accounts without having to install a separate cryptocurrency wallet.

As for event organizers, they can swiftly issue mobile tickets without using third-party ticket reservation platforms. Ticket invitations are sent to recipients via KakaoTalk, South Korea’s most popular messaging app, making the service more accessible as well. Those who have not received an invitation can still apply for participation if the event is public. Upon acceptance by the organizer, they will receive an approval notification through KakaoTalk, Block Odyssey explained.

Participants can then present the NFT ticket’s QR code on the day of an event, and organizers can conduct real-time validation using the QR check feature provided by MakeDrop.

Notably, while traditional ticket reservation platforms often do not share ticket holder information with event organizers, MakeDrop allows independent information management for all events. This allows organizers to identify low-engagement or idle members and offer more benefits to loyal participants.

As part of its website launch promotion, MakeDrop is currently holding an event to distribute 100,000 free NFT tickets. The company also plans to release a mobile app in the future after incorporating user feedback and enhancing functionalities.

Midas Investments Founder Launches Locus Finance

Midas Investments Founder Launches Locus FinanceIakov Levin, the founder of the recently failed Dubai-headquartered custodial crypto investment platform Midas Investments, has unveiled his latest project, Locus Finance, a DeFi platform.Photo by Shubham’s Web3 on UnsplashStarting overThat’s according to a recent report published by The Block. Locus Finance’s main focus lies in providing connectivity with high-yield tokenized vaults. In its initial stages, the company will introduce three yield-generating products, centered around Ethereum staking, DeFi expansion, and Arbitrum trading.Levin believes that investors are not interested in the intricacies of blockchains, protocols, or daily portfolio management. This is where vaults play a crucial role, catering to the retail yield market and generating profits for retail investors. In a statement Levin said:“Investors don’t want to worry about blockchains, protocols, transaction costs, and daily portfolio management. They need specific exposure in a set-and-forget style. Vaults represent a unique approach necessary for maturing the retail yield market, allowing for optimal wealth generation for retail investors.”With Locus Finance, Levin aims to learn from past experiences and provide a platform that meets the demands of retail investors seeking a more simplified and profitable DeFi experience. The company’s approach centers around yield generation and a seamless user experience, allowing users to focus on their investments without being bogged down by complex technicalities.Midas downfallMidas Investments, established in 2018, had seen significant success as a custodial crypto investment platform which offered yields on a range of digital assets. It managed assets worth over $250 million at its peak in 2021. However, the volatile market conditions in 2022 led to losses exceeding $50 million, forcing the company to close its doors in December 2022.The loss incurred accounted for 20% of the $250 million assets under management (AUM). The platform’s demise followed the collapse of prominent projects like Terra, FTX, and Celsius earlier in 2022. Those collapses prompted Midas Investments users to withdraw over 60% of their assets. That run on the platform rendered its fixed yield model unsustainable.Midas faced total liabilities of $115 million in Bitcoin, ETH, and stablecoins, with assets valued at $51.7 million. At the time of the platform’s collapse, Levin expressed his optimism about future plans. He disclosed plans to introduce an offering that would feature new investment strategies. Fast forward seven months and it appears that those plans have taken shape in the form of this newly-launched Locus Finance platform. However, Locus Finance’s success will be closely monitored in light of the challenges faced by its predecessor. A former Midas Investments customer took to Reddit three months ago to warn people to stay away from the new platform once launched. At that time, Midas Investments management had advised customers of its intention to start over via Lotus Finance. “Users lost tons of money and Midas got away with the bags. . . . I’d recommend staying as far away from them as possible,” the former customer warned.

UAE Accelerates Cross-Border Payments with JPMorgan’s OnyxFirst Abu Dhabi Bank (FAB), the largest bank in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), has ventured into the world of blockchain technology through a partnership with JPMorgan and its Onyx blockchain.Photo by Kamil Rogalinski on UnsplashFast tracking cross-border transactionsInternational financial transactions have long been afflicted by intricate procedures and snail-paced response times. These challenges have been particularly acute when it comes to cross-border payments. In response, FAB will utilize JPMorgan’s Coin Systems in order to expedite and streamline such cross-border payments.Powered by blockchain technology, JPMorgan’s Coin Systems advocates for swift transfers and settlements through a secure, distributed ledger. This collaboration between FAB and JPMorgan’s Onyx division was announced via a press release published on Tuesday (local time). The initiative represents FAB’s efforts towards leveraging cutting-edge technology, while improving and redefining the customer experience. While the initial testing phase was a success, it’s merely a prologue to FAB’s broader plans to utilize the technology for global transactional banking. With assets totaling AED 1.1 trillion ($312 billion) as of mid-2023 and laudable ratings from Moody’s, S&P, and Fitch, FAB maintains a significant presence in banking in the Middle East region.Onyx blockchainJPMorgan launched its Onyx blockchain in 2020 as a permissioned blockchain network. Among the services offered by Onyx Digital Assets are tokenized US treasury bonds and mortgage-backed securities alongside its JPM Coin.JPMorgan is not alone in terms of top-tier banks and financial services firms who are delving into the world of blockchain. Rivals such as Citi announced its Citi Token Services product offering in September. It’s a blockchain-based service that utilizes tokenized deposits for the purpose of trading and providing liquidity.Meanwhile, payments firm Mastercard announced that it was performing testing on its Multi Token Network in June. For its part, JPMorgan has also been a participant in Singapore’s Project Guardian, a collaborative initiative led by the Monetary Authority of Singapore in conjunction with the financial services sector, centered on asset tokenization.Bahrani partnershipThis latest collaboration follows hot on the heels of JPMorgan’s partnership with another Middle Eastern bank last month. Bank ABC, which is headquartered in Bahrain, became the first Middle Eastern bank to utilize JPMorgan’s Onyx Coin Systems for faster cross-border payments. That initiative also had the support of Bahrain’s central bank. At the time of the launch of the collaboration, Central Bank of Bahrain Governor Rasheed Al Maraj stated:”After working closely with JP Morgan and Bank ABC over the past two years to experiment with cross-border commercial transactions between Bahrain and the US, leveraging the JP Morgan Coin System, we are pleased to witness the soft launch of this innovative banking solution by a Bahraini-based bank.”
