Limitations of traditional digital tickets

Until now, major ticket reservation platforms have made it challenging for event organizers to streamline the ticketing process for events such as corporate or campus gatherings, concerts, festivals, and more.

Event organizers have thus had to manually send notifications via text messages and emails, print paper tickets, and directly manage overall ticket sales and distributions. The absence of tools to identify ticket holders from attendees also makes it difficult to accurately determine participation and contribution ratios.

Blockchain meets ticketing

But with the rapid advancement of digitized ticket issuance, NFT tickets have been gaining traction as a transparent and secure solution to such challenges. These tickets are verified and stored on a blockchain, setting them apart from traditional forms of digital tickets such as barcodes.

About MakeDrop

Block Odyssey’s MakeDrop is an open service that allows anyone to easily create, issue, and manage one-of-a-kind NFT tickets with individual ownership rights and transaction history. If secondary ticket transactions occur, all ownership changes can be verified on the blockchain, making it possible to block attempts at fraudulent or repetitive secondary trading.

The service is particularly convenient for users, as they can automatically generate a wallet address for storing their NFTs by logging in to social media accounts without having to install a separate cryptocurrency wallet.

As for event organizers, they can swiftly issue mobile tickets without using third-party ticket reservation platforms. Ticket invitations are sent to recipients via KakaoTalk, South Korea’s most popular messaging app, making the service more accessible as well. Those who have not received an invitation can still apply for participation if the event is public. Upon acceptance by the organizer, they will receive an approval notification through KakaoTalk, Block Odyssey explained.

Participants can then present the NFT ticket’s QR code on the day of an event, and organizers can conduct real-time validation using the QR check feature provided by MakeDrop.

Notably, while traditional ticket reservation platforms often do not share ticket holder information with event organizers, MakeDrop allows independent information management for all events. This allows organizers to identify low-engagement or idle members and offer more benefits to loyal participants.

As part of its website launch promotion, MakeDrop is currently holding an event to distribute 100,000 free NFT tickets. The company also plans to release a mobile app in the future after incorporating user feedback and enhancing functionalities.

Bitget Launches Blockchain4Youth Project

Bitget Launches Blockchain4Youth ProjectSeychelles-headquartered crypto derivatives trading platform, Bitget, announced on Thursday the launch of a new corporate social responsibility (CSR) project. The initiative seizes upon an opportunity to execute on a public good while at the same time, benefiting the future prospects of the business itself alongside the overarching crypto space.Blockchain4Youth is a new initiative from the crypto business with the objective of “empowering and inspiring younger generations to use Web3 and crypto tools to create and engage in a decentralized space. ” With this goal, the trading platform believes that a blockchain future can be created.Photo by Jill Wellington on PexelYouth key to crypto adoptionWhile this is a CSR project, it’s easy to interpret it as a win/win. The future success of crypto lies with the younger demographic. They are the ones who are digitally native. They’re the ones that can more easily identify with truly digital money and digitally decentralized systems.Bitget seems to get this according to the statement it issued: “Bitget believes that a blockchain-based future is essential to building better products and tools to help people advance crypto adoption. The platform will be relying on the young generation to promote such ideas and will help them become proactive leaders.”This is telling as it demonstrates firstly that the Seychelles-based platform understands that the younger demographic represents its future customers. But it also clarifies that Bitget understands that future products need to be purpose built to meet the specific needs of that younger demographic.46% of millennials own cryptoIt appears that Bitget’s initiative is further motivated off the back of recent research it carried out. Released last month, that research study reveals that 46% of Millennial respondents said they owned cryptocurrencies, compared to 25% of Gen X-ers, 21% of Gen Z, and just 8% of Baby Boomers. The depth of the study extended to 255,000 survey responses received from respondents distributed across 26 countries, including places as diverse as the United States, Japan, China, Nigeria, Germany, Indonesia, and elsewhere. The study achieved responses per country of at least 10,000 respondents. The research also uncovered that “related statistics compiled on attitudes towards the regulation of digital assets indicate that each successive generation is more likely to factor in the attitudes of electoral candidates towards crypto regulation when casting their vote.”One of the study’s key findings is the following: “By 2030, all Gen Z members will be adults and the spread of blockchain technology by that time could lead to an increase in the percentage of cryptocurrency adopters across all generations. As such, the chances of the growth in acceptance of cryptocurrencies in the coming years are very high.”Broader industry involvementBitget intends to extend involvement in its Blockchain4Youth project beyond the company, with participation coming from other blockchain firms. The press release sets out that “the platform will also collaborate with other leading blockchain firms to incubate innovative projects by young entrepreneurs and host U30 (Under the age of 30) hackathons to identify the most promising ones.”The crypto derivatives platform is kicking things off later this month through a series of campus lectures in Thailand, Vietnam, and Taiwan covering the topic of Web3. As well as being open to collaborating with industry peers, the company also wants educators to take an active role in the initiative.

Korean Crypto Exchanges Struggle Despite Market Recovery

Korean Crypto Exchanges Struggle Despite Market RecoveryThe results of a recent study by the South Korean Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) released on Monday revealed that ten domestic cryptocurrency exchanges have reported zero revenue from transaction fees, with half of them struggling to achieve a daily average trading volume of KRW 1 million ($740).Photo by Maxim Hopman on UnsplashTrends of growth and declineThe study looked into data from 35 registered virtual asset service providers (VASPs) for the first half of this year. The findings showed that compared to the second half of last year, the crypto market capitalization and Korean won deposits increased, but exchanges faced growing challenges, illustrated by a widening gap between leading fiat-to-crypto exchanges and smaller crypto-only exchanges. In the first half of this year, the operating profit of won-based exchanges reached KRW 259.8 billion (approximately $193 million), a 46% increase compared to the second half of last year, which recorded KRW 177.9 billion. In contrast, crypto exchanges recorded an operating loss of KRW 32.5 billion. Notably, out of 21 crypto-only exchanges, 10 of them reported no revenue at all from transaction fees, and 18 were in a state of complete capital impairment. Meanwhile, the operating profit of won-based exchanges was concentrated among the country’s top two exchanges, Upbit and Bithumb. But from a broader perspective, as of the end of June, this year’s total capitalization of the crypto market reached KRW 28.4 trillion — a 46% increase compared to the end of the second half of last year. Korean won deposits also increased by KRW 400 billion, or 11%, compared to the previous half. The overall operating profit was KRW 227.3 billion, up 82% from KRW 124.9 billion at the end of the second half of last year.“The first half of this year saw a rise in prices of virtual assets and investor sentiment, leading to an increase in Korean won deposits, overall market capitalization, and operating profits for exchanges, compared to the second half of 2022,” the FIU remarked. The number of new listings and delistings on virtual asset exchanges also surged with 169 new listings and 115 new delistings. These represented a more than double increase and a 47% increase, respectively, compared to the second half of last year. 66% of the delisted crypto assets were coins that had been exclusively listed on a given exchange.Despite the market’s recovery, trading volume and the number of users have slightly decreased. The daily average trading volume in the domestic crypto market for the first half of this year was KRW 2.9 trillion, down 1.3% compared to the second half of 2022. In addition, the number of registered accounts with VASPs also dropped by 19% to 9.5 million compared to the end of last year. This can be attributed to a growing number of dormant accounts and the removal of duplicate accounts. The quantity of verified users has also declined. The number of individuals and corporations that had completed the mandatory Know Your Customer (KYC) procedures needed to engage in trading decreased by 210,000 to 6.06 million (including duplicates) compared to the end of 2022. The majority of users, or those who own less than KRW 1 million in virtual assets, dropped by 7%.On the other hand, the amount of virtual assets leaving the country increased. In the first half of this year, a total of KRW 22.1 trillion was transferred to whitelisted overseas operators or individual wallet addresses, marking a KRW 500 billion increase compared to the second half of last year. This trend could be accredited to futures trading and arbitrage trading influenced by the so-called “kimchi premium” — a term used to describe the difference between trading prices of cryptocurrencies in Korea and in other foreign exchanges.Age demographicsOther findings showed that the age group that traded the most virtual assets is in their 30s, accounting for 30% of all users. Within this group, men make up 70%, with 1.27 million men recorded as engaging in crypto trading. Following closely with 1.2 million, men in their 40s were the second-largest demographic.

Bitdeer sets out mining chip roadmap

Singapore-headquartered Bitcoin mining company Bitdeer has outlined a roadmap of chip development which will culminate in the introduction of its most energy efficient mining chip to date, the “SEAL04” chip. According to a press release published by the company on June 6, the company outlined that it wanted to be transparent in demonstrating its plans over the short to medium term in terms of research and development and technological advancement.Photo by Michael Förtsch on UnsplashIterative progressionThe starting point for its roadmap is the SEAL01 chip, which the company introduced in Q1 2024. That mining chip was engineered using a four-nanometer process technology. It was developed in collaboration with a semiconductor fabricator albeit that the company has not disclosed the identity of that fabricator. That chip weighed in at 18.1 Joules/Terahash (J/TH). The SEAL01 represents the company’s first release relative to its SEALMINER technology.  Bitdeer feels that providing guidelines for technology releases will better inform market participants, and that’s important given that uncertainty creates a major difficulty for those operating in the Bitcoin mining space.  With that, Bitdeer is projecting a Q3 2024 release for its SEAL02 miner, which will clock up between 15 and 16.5J/TH. SEAL03 is scheduled for Q4 2024, with an efficiency boost taking it to between 11 and 12J/TH. Finally, the SEAL04 is scheduled for release in Q2 2025. That chip is expected to have an energy efficiency range as low as 5.5-6J/TH. The two most critical factors for Bitcoin miners to stay competitive include the cost of energy and the level of energy efficiency achieved by the mining equipment that is being used. It’s believed that the roadmap will help in managing miners’ expectations relative to technological advancement.  Gearing up for a post-halving mining environmentTo develop the SEALMINER equipment series, Bitdeer outlined last March that it had “assembled an international team of professional engineers specializing in chip design, firmware, and hardware engineering.” At that time, the company suggested that the new range of mining equipment would allow it to assist the Bitcoin mining community “in seizing opportunities following the 2024 halving event.” Alongside its chip development roadmap, the company came to the industry’s attention earlier this week with stablecoin issuer Tether acquiring a 25% stake in the Singaporean mining equipment developer, according to a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). This acquisition makes Tether the second-largest shareholder in Bitdeer, behind Victory Courage Ltd., which is registered to Bitdeer CEO Jihan Wu. Wu, who co-founded Bitdeer and served as CEO of ASIC manufacturer Bitmain previously, was appointed as CEO of Bitdeer in January. The appointment was made so that Wu could oversee what was expected to be a period of rapid growth at the company. In the June 6 SEC filing, Tether Holdings Limited disclosed control over 23,587,360 BTDR shares. This significant increase in holdings stems from a private placement deal closed with Bitdeer last week, enabling the Bitcoin miner to secure $100 million in financing. The deal also includes a warrant allowing Tether to purchase up to 5,000,000 additional shares at $10.00 each over the course of the next year. Bitdeer plans to use the raised funds to expand its data centers, develop ASIC-based mining rigs and support other general corporate purposes.
