Blockchain Deposit Insurance Corporation (BDIC), an emerging crypto insurer based in Florida in the United States, with corporate headquarters in Bermuda, has disclosed that it is preparing to launch its cryptocurrency insurance platform.

Starting point in Asia

In a press release published on Feb. 11, BDIC outlined that the launch would take place in Q2 2025, with its crypto insurance underwriting service commencing in key Asian markets to begin with.

The company has chosen Asia as its starting point, where it feels crypto adoption continues to build momentum. With that, it specified Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan, Taiwan and South Korea as target markets.

While the initial launch will take place in Q2, the company foresees having expanded into Southeast Asia by Q4 2025. Broader service coverage will follow across the greater Asia-Pacific (APAC) region by 2026, with particular emphasis on entering the Hong Kong market.

Company CEO Jeffrey Glusman cited a growing demand for crypto wallet security across Asia. He underlined the growing crypto adoption rate in the region, suggesting that this will encompass 300 million users by 2028.

Insurance essential for mainstream adoption

Speaking about the product offering more generally, Glusman said that the crypto sector has reached a critical inflection point. With that, he believes that “institutional-grade insurance solutions are essential for mainstream adoption.”

He added:

“BDIC introduces a new paradigm in digital asset protection, using advanced risk assessment algorithms and real-time monitoring to safeguard users’ holdings.”

Token launch

The company is also planning to launch a native token for its platform, “BDIC Coin,” in Q2 2025. The purpose of the token launch will be to power the BDIC Foundation Reserve Fund, a reserve which will be used for the purposes of premium payments and claim settlements. Furthermore, the token will enable holders to participate in governance voting relative to the project.

BDIC claims that it has established compliance protocols and a whitelist in order to provide for a robust and equitable tokenomics structure.

Glusman believes that the timing of BDIC’s launch couldn’t be better. A recent report by information services company GlobalData corroborates his view. The report, published on the back of a GlobalData survey, outlined that only 10.8% of crypto holders worldwide have insurance in place for their digital assets.

The survey data suggests that 41.9% of non-policy holding respondents would purchase such insurance given the opportunity, while a further 26.2% were open to the idea.

Theft or hacking of digital assets was perceived to be the most important risk to cover in a digital asset insurance policy in the case of a quarter of respondents. The number of insurers offering crypto-related insurance remains limited. However, it would appear that there’s a significant growth opportunity for firms like BDIC, based on the survey data.

While there might be a growth opportunity, there are also challenges. Nischal Shetty, founder and CEO of WazirX, an Indian crypto exchange platform that suffered a $230 million hack in 2024, described the difficulties encountered by the company in trying to get insurance when interviewed last August. He stated:

“We tried to get insurance in the past, but we did not get any provider who would be willing to insure these assets. It's not an easy process.”

Singapore’s FOMO Pay Forges Collaboration With NotabeneFOMO Pay, a regulated digital payment and banking solutions provider operating under Singapore’s regulatory umbrella, has joined forces with Notabene, a platform tailored for crypto-industry decision-making.Photo by Towfiqu barbhuiya on UnsplashPre-transaction decision makingThe strategic alliance was announced via a blog post published to FOMO Pay’s website on Thursday. Through that communication, FOMO Pay revealed that this collaboration with Notabene will be a key contributor towards the firm’s efforts to elevate its know-your-transaction (KYT) capabilities, ensuring access to accurate and verified business information.A focal point of this partnership lies in amplifying FOMO Pay’s compliance measures, bolstering customer security, and cultivating a foundation of trust in the domains of digital payments and digital assets.Wee Teck Lim, the Head of Compliance at FOMO Pay, emphasized that this partnership mirrors the company’s efforts towards full compliance with global regulations, enhancing anti-money laundering (AML) strategies and decision-making.Responding to regulatory pressureWith a regulatory spotlight on crypto and crypto-related businesses over the past year, market participants are making greater efforts to adhere to national and global compliance rules and guidelines. This move by FOMO Pay not only aids it in adhering to rigorous guidelines but also reinforces the battle against money laundering, terrorism financing, and other such concerns.Pelle Braendgaard, CEO of Notabene, articulated the symbiotic significance of this partnership. He noted that this collaboration stands as a tangible testament to the efficacy of the travel rule implementation, effectively fostering secure and streamlined digital asset transactions. This alignment of missions between FOMO Pay and Notabene, Braendgaard maintains, resonates with their shared aspiration to establish a digital asset ecosystem that is safer and more accessible.FOMO CryptoFOMO Pay, which has been licensed as a payment institution by the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS), boasts an array of products including FOMO Payment, FOMO iBank, and FOMO Crypto. Through FOMO Crypto, the firm is actively constructing Asia’s inaugural licensed gateway, which will offer a seamless connection between fiat and digital currencies.Notabene is headquartered in New York although it casts its operational net across several countries. Moving away from traditional payment rails towards Ripple’s ODL product meant that FOMO Pay could free up working capital and optimize business cash flow.As further evidence of FOMO Pay’s efforts to maintain regulatory compliance, in July the company partnered with Elliptic, a crypto asset risk management firm, in an effort to enhance its customer onboarding due diligence check process.

BitMEX Chalks Up Two New Perp Contract Listings

BitMEX Chalks Up Two New Perp Contract ListingsSeychelles-based cryptocurrency exchange and derivative trading platform BitMEX announced recently that it has added perpetual contracts relative to two additional digital assets.A perpetual contract is a crypto futures contract without an expiry date. Just like with a more conventional futures contract, a perpetual contract is a derivative product, deriving its value from the underlying crypto asset.$SUI tokenTaking to Twitter, the company outlined that it has added perpetual contracts for the $SUI token. The contracts will be available in $SUI/USD and SUI/USDT pairings. Leverage relative to the contracts is being made available up to a maximum of 50x.$SUI is the native token of the Sui blockchain platform. Sui is a layer one blockchain which launched earlier this week. It’s a smart contract platform maintained via a network of permissionless validators. The blockchain network claims to offer a scalable network with ultra low latency. Such low latency can enable diverse use cases such as retail point of sale payment systems and gaming. The contract allows users to post bitcoin as collateral, earning or losing in bitcoin as the SUI/USD rate changes. Maximum risk limit is set at 50 bitcoin. Meanwhile maker and taker fees have been set for the product at 0.02% and 0.075% respectively. A base initial margin of 2% applies while base maintenance margin of 1% applies.$PEPE tokenOn Wednesday, BitMEX also launched perpetual contract products relative to the $PEPE token at 04:00 UTC. There are two listings, PEPE/USD and PEPE/USDT. Pepe coin is a meme token project, inspired by the Pepe the Frog meme. The origins of the cartoon character stem from the Boy’s Club comic in 2005. It later became an internet meme, and later still it was adopted as a meme within the crypto space. The token itself was launched in April, sky rocketing to a $502 million market capitalization since then, representing a 2,100% rise in the token’s unit price since its launch. As in the case of the $SUI token, $PEPE is also available to trade on BitMEX with leverage as high as 50x. In an interview with one crypto news publication, a representative of BitMEX commented on the launch as follows:“PEPE needs a Perp! Perpetual Contracts are the most traded product in crypto and offer all investors taking a long or short position on tokens with better liquidity and fewer network risks. At BitMEX, we offer Tether-margined and Bitcoin-margined perpetual contracts. We are proud to be the inventor of the Perpetual Swap and have long been a leading trading venue for crypto derivatives, offering uncompromised security, a reliable platform, and deep liquidity — as professional traders deserve.”Many commentators in the crypto space have repeatedly pointed to the high risks involved with leverage. In this instance 50x leverage is incredibly high risk, making the product suitable only for those traders that fully and thoroughly understand the risk that comes with such leveraged trading.Photo by Shubham Dhage on Unsplash

XPLA blockchain now supported by on-chain tokenizer platform Gall3ry

Cultural content company Com2uS Holdings announced Monday that XPLA, its layer 1 blockchain, is now supported by on-chain content (OCC) aggregator Gall3ry. Photo by GuerrillaBuzz on Unsplash"We are pleased with the recognition of our technology and ideas, and with our collaboration with global mainnet XPLA," said Joseph Lee, CEO of Gall3ry. "We plan to provide various experiences based on our decade of expertise in the IP industry." Empowering multifaceted ownershipGall3ry offers an OCC tokenizer solution that converts off-chain data into on-chain tokens – mainly NFTs – boosting user engagement and revenue while building Web3 communities. It ultimately gives NFT holders a sense of true ownership because they can personalize their social identities and build connections with other users through their assets. In particular, they can display their NFT artwork on the Gall3ry platform to share with the community, which can lead to increased communication and engagement on social media platforms, thus lowering the barriers to entry for NFTs. Elevating gaming experiencesBy supporting the XPLA blockchain, users on XPLA can now experience an innovative and improved Play-to-Own (P2O) aspect of their favorite games. Now that Gall3ry’s solution is linked to XPLA, NFT holders will be able to experience more active and vibrant connections with each other, moving away from the now outdated concept of one-dimensional ownership on XPLA. "This partnership is a significant collaboration for XPLA and our NFT marketplace X-PLANET," said Paul Kim, Team Leader at XPLA. "It will provide new and diverse ways for holders to utilize their NFTs."
