Block unveils Bitcoin payments pilot program

Jack Dorsey’s payments company Block, Inc. (formerly Square) unveiled a Bitcoin payments pilot program at the Bitcoin 2025 conference in Las Vegas. The program will allow participants to make Bitcoin payments by scanning a barcode, with transactions processed in near real time via the Lightning Network. Block plans to expand the feature to Square, its point of sale (POS) payments platform, with rollout starting in H2, 2025, reaching all Square sellers by 2026, pending regulatory approval.
