Swiss regulator files criminal complaint against FIFA over blockchain platform

Switzerland's gambling regulator, Gespa, has filed a criminal complaint against FIFA, alleging that collectibles sold on the FIFA Collect platform constitute an unlicensed gambling service, Bloomberg reported. The collectibles, which operate on the Avalanche blockchain, offer an option to purchase tickets for the 2026 World Cup and can be resold on a secondary market. The action follows an investigation Gespa launched into FIFA's blockchain-based ticketing platform on Oct. 7.
