U.S. Rep. Nancy Mace calls for 25th Amendment invocation following Biden’s withdrawal from 2024 race
July 21, 2024, 10:11 PM
South Carolina Republican Representative Nancy Mace announced on X her plan to introduce a resolution on July 22, urging Vice President Kamala Harris to invoke the 25th Amendment, a constitutional provision that allows Congress to remove a president they believe to be incapacitated. Mace argues that if President Joe Biden lacks the cognitive capability to seek reelection, he should also be considered unfit to serve the remainder of his term, ending on Jan. 20, 2025. She believes that if Biden does not step down voluntarily, Harris should initiate the process. Mace's comments followed President Biden's decision to drop out of the 2024 presidential race.
