North Korean hacker groups infiltrated cloud systems using fake IT job offers as bait and have stolen up to $1.6 billion worth of crypto assets so far this year, Decrypt reported, citing Google Cloud and Wiz reports. While leveraging hacking techniques involving malicious open-source code in 2023, these hackers have gained access to cryptocurrency exchanges since 2024 through fake job offers to steal funds. They were also identified as the main culprits behind the 2024 DMM Bitcoin hack in Japan and the 2025 Bybit hack.
