DOSI services

Following the integration of LINE BITMAX Wallet into DOSI Wallet in March, LINE Xenesis has been striving to provide DOSI services for its users in Japan. DOSI Wallet enables users to manage a range of digital assets, including NFTs. As of April, the company has rolled out two new services: DOSI Citizen, a membership program, and AlphaCrewz, an app allowing users to create 3D avatars utilizing NFTs.

NFTs known as Crystals

Launched on May 9, AVA is the third service designed to engage LINE Xenesis users in Japan. The platform employs NFTs, known as Crystals, to connect artists and fans, which are divided into three categories: normal, rare, and unique, each offering different benefits.

TREASURE

Before AVA’s debut, a March 27 airdrop event featuring the world-renowned South Korean boy band TREASURE attracted over 7,000 participants. With the launch of AVA, 7,000 TREASURE Crystals have been made available for purchase.

TREASURE Crystal holders can enjoy four perks: storing exclusive videos in Crystals, receiving autographed trading cards and polaroid pictures, earning a portion of Crystal revenues for promoting TREASURE locally and on buses, and having the opportunity to submit inquiries and requests directly to the group. For the last benefit, TREASURE will respond to the most popular questions, as decided by user votes, with voting influence determined by the type of Crystal held.

ATEEZ

The second NFT collection on AVA will highlight another K-pop boy group ATEEZ, with ATEEZ Crystals available for purchase from May 16 to 31. An airdrop event with registration open until May 15 will precede the sales, giving users who complete missions a chance to win one of 600 normal ATEEZ Crystals. AVA will also host an event where ATEEZ members will answer eight selected questions submitted by fans.

This fall, AVA will introduce a virtual space called Playground, enabling users to trade Crystals with each other and interact with artists through various activities.

Additionally, participants in the ATEEZ airdrop event who fulfill tasks on social media will have a chance to enter a lucky draw for one of 30 exclusive ATEEZ photo card sets.

Bitdeer announces new mining chip and Q4 results

Bitdeer Technologies, led by Jihan Wu and based in Singapore, has unveiled the very latest development in the world of Bitcoin mining technology with the announcement of the successful testing of its proprietary Bitcoin mining chip, slated for integration into its forthcoming mining rig. In addition, the firm has followed up on March 4 with the publication of financial results for Q4 2023.Photo by Thought Catalog on UnsplashSealminer A1The company revealed on X that its inaugural crypto mining chip, known as the SEAL01, destined to drive the Sealminer A1 mining rig, was engineered utilizing four-nanometer process technology, a feat achieved in collaboration with a semiconductor fabricator. Bitdeer boasts that this chip exhibits a power efficiency ratio of 18.1 J/TH. At the heart of Bitdeer's latest achievement lies the SEAL01 chip, the culmination of years of dedicated research and development. By harnessing state-of-the-art technology and meticulous planning, Bitdeer aims to tackle the pressing challenges confronting Bitcoin miners, including skyrocketing operational costs and environmental implications. The company claims that the efficiency of the SEAL01 chip not only promises a shift towards more sustainable mining practices but also holds the potential to significantly reduce energy consumption, thereby bolstering profitability and return on investment for miners. "This powerful chip offers enhanced Bitcoin mining performance with minimized power consumption, leading to lower operating costs and a reduced environmental footprint for miners," Bitdeer affirmed in the X post. The firm stopped short of disclosing the launch timeline for its upcoming mining rig. On the financial front, Bitdeer disclosed its financial results for Q4 2023, on March 4. The company reported a total of 111,966,634 outstanding ordinary shares as of Dec. 31, 2023, including class A and class V ordinary shares. Additionally, Bitdeer revealed key operational metrics for Q4 2023, including total Bitcoin mined, power usage across its mining data centers, average cost of electricity and miner efficiency. Bitdeer's shares closed up 2.11% at $6.76 on Nasdaq on Friday, indicating a positive market response to its recent newly developed Bitcoin mining chip. However, trading outside regular hours, going into March 4, have seen the share price peak at $7.52, yet having retraced to $6.9 at the time of writing. That may indicate that investors are not particularly enthralled by the firm’s Q4 2023 results. Bitdeer emphasizes that the SEAL01 chip is engineered to meet the evolving demands of the cryptocurrency mining industry. As mining activities continue to gain traction and market dynamics evolve, the adaptability of hardware solutions becomes paramount. Bitdeer's strategic emphasis on innovation with the SEAL01 chip aims to pave the way for future advancements in cryptocurrency mining technology, ultimately fostering the growth and sustainability of the industry. Moreover, Bitdeer asserts that the newly developed chip enables it to optimize efficiency, stability and performance in anticipation of the upcoming Bitcoin halving event slated for April. Last month, the company’s founder Jihan Wu was installed as CEO, in a move that is understood to better position the company as it transitions to a growth phase.

China Unveils Offline SIM Card Wallet for Digital Yuan Payments

China Unveils Offline SIM Card Wallet for Digital Yuan PaymentsThe People’s Bank of China (PBoC) has announced a new offline SIM card-based solution for its digital yuan, enabling users to make payments even with their phones switched off.Photo by Sumeet Singh on UnsplashEmbedded hardwareThe innovative initiative was revealed via a social media post on Monday. It aims to reach users with 2G phones who were previously unable to access digital currency.Currently, this feature is only available for Android phone users with NFC functionality, as no details have been given for iOS users or 2G phone owners. This innovation is part of the central bank’s efforts to expand the reach and usage of its digital currency, especially for users with 2G phones who were previously unable to access it.Earlier this year, the PBoC launched a similar solution for smartphone users, using near-field communication (NFC) technology. However, the latest solution relies on hardware embedded in SIM cards, which can act as a “hard” (offline) central bank digital currency (CBDC) wallet.Partnership with telecoms giantsThe central bank’s partners relative to this particular project include major telecom operators China Mobile, China Telecom, and China Unicom, as well as state-owned commercial banks Industrial and Commercial Bank of China and Bank of China, who have also introduced SIM card-based “hard wallet products.” These developments are expected to significantly improve the payment capabilities and network-free functionality of the digital yuan.To use this feature, citizens have to get a “super SIM card” from their carriers. After they have replaced their existing SIM cards and opened the digital yuan app on their phones, they will see an option to “open a SIM card hard wallet.” This will enable them to make touch-based payments to merchants even when their devices are powered off or lack network connectivity.SIM-based wallets are likely to be particularly useful for those using 2G devices or smartphones without NFC capabilities. Considering that about 20% of Chinese mobile users still use 2G phones, it would make sense for the PBoC to continue working in this direction with future updates.Driving adoptionThe ultimate plan of the PBoC regarding SIM-based wallets is not clear yet. However, recent developments, such as the pilot project in Qingdao where CBDC payments were tested on the metro system without electricity or network, indicate a strong push toward increasing the accessibility and adoption of the digital yuan.Frankly, moves to bring about adoption of the e-CNY have been nothing short of relentless. These measures have varied from paying state employees in e-CNY in Changshu, collaborating with French bank BNP Paribas so that its corporate clients start to use the digital yuan and enabling e-CNY bus fare payments on public transport in Jinan.China’s Jiangsu Province has integrated the digital yuan into its education system, while the resort city of Sanya recently introduced e-CNY ATM machines so that foreign tourists have a means through which they can access the digital currency. These developments demonstrate a clear commitment by the Chinese authorities in advancing the rollout of its central bank digital currency.
