US House probes Gensler over texts deleted during Coinbase, Binance lawsuits
September 30, 2025, 9:32 PM
Former U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Chairman Gary Gensler is under investigation by the U.S. House of Representatives over text messages deleted during his tenure from October 2022 to September 2023, The Block reported. This period coincided with the agency filing major lawsuits against several cryptocurrency firms, including Coinbase and Binance.
According to an internal SEC audit, the deletions were caused by errors with government-issued mobile devices and inadequate backups. The investigating lawmakers are reportedly focused on potential violations of government transparency and record-keeping laws.
The SEC’s lawsuit against Coinbase concluded in February, and its case against Binance ended in May.
