Cardano founder says FBI is investigating Nov. 21 chain split
November 23, 2025, 10:49 PM
Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson said the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is investigating the Nov. 21 exploit and subsequent split of the Cardano (ADA) blockchain, according to The Block. The incident involved a transaction that exploited a deserialization bug, which led to a chain split that was later merged following an emergency patch.
The investigation was initiated at the request of the Cardano Foundation. In response, four Cardano developers stated the event was an unintentional mistake that occurred during a security test to see if a malicious transaction could be submitted. They admitted to acting carelessly by not properly vetting the process on a testnet, instead moving directly to a Linux server and blocking traffic with the help of an AI.
