Enhancing platform app features

This new feature empowers users to seamlessly swap their tokens and access DeFi services through the platform’s Web3 wallet, according to a press release the company published concerning the development earlier this week. Bitget outlined that the primary goal of the integration is to offer users diverse options for trading their crypto assets within the exchange ecosystem.

Bitget Managing Director Gracy Chen set out the significance of the recently ushered in changes. Chen stated:

“Integrating Web3 services into our CEX platform marks a significant milestone for Bitget. By offering users the freedom to access various DeFi services alongside the convenience and security of our CeFi platform, we are empowering them with a unique experience. Bitget aims to provide a comprehensive ecosystem that caters to the evolving needs of our users, all while maintaining the highest standards of security and reliability.”

Service offering expansion

Furthermore, the app is set to expand its services, gradually incorporating a non-custody wallet, an NFT marketplace and decentralized applications (dApps), Chen confirmed. Bitget users can now experience enhanced flexibility in their trading activities, as the exchange plans to make most listed currencies available in the Web3 wallet for DeFi trading. The swap feature, a core element of this integration, aggregates liquidity from 10 decentralized exchanges (DEXs), including popular platforms like Uniswap, PancakeSwap and Curve Finance. Chen confirmed further details to Cointelegraph, stating:

“At the core of the recent integration is our Web3 Wallet, which facilitates the secure storage, management, and control of their digital assets. Alongside the wallet, we’ve launched a Swap service, which is an advanced DeFi aggregator.”

The firm acquired the BitKeep crypto wallet earlier this year, with the product subsequently having been officially rebranded to the Bitget Wallet in August. The move has worked out well for the firm, with it confirming at the end of July that it had achieved 20 million users as a consequence. The more recent integration not only facilitates asset management services but also provides native storage solutions for users.

$100 million fund

This initiative aligns with Bitget’s ongoing efforts to establish a strong foothold in the crypto space. The exchange has consistently pursued expansion, launching multimillion-dollar funds to support the growth of the Web3 ecosystem. At an event in Singapore recently, Bitget introduced a $100 million fund dedicated to supporting venture firms and investing in the next generation of Web3 projects.

Earlier this week, the company committed a $10 million fund towards the objective of nurturing high-potential crypto startup projects in India.

Crypto Exchange HTX Reports $8 Million Hack Over Weekend

Crypto Exchange HTX Reports $8 Million Hack Over WeekendCrypto exchange HTX confirmed on Monday that it fell victim to a hack over the weekend, resulting in losses amounting to 5,000 ETH ($8 million).HTX stakeholder Justin Sun, Founder of layer one blockchain TRON, disclosed the breach via an X post. In a series of subsequent X posts, Sun assured users and stakeholders that the exchange had promptly covered the losses, and current user deposits remained secure. He also emphasized that the platform was operating normally despite the security incident.Photo by GuerrillaBuzz on UnsplashHacker incentiveThe TRON Founder also extended an offer to the hacker responsible for the breach. He proposed a 5% reward for the return of the remaining funds, a figure notably lower than the 10% often offered to hackers in similar situations. Additionally, Sun dangled the possibility of a job at the exchange. That’s an unusual response to a cryptocurrency hack and one that had one commentator speculating upon the notion that the hacker belonged to the notorious North Korean Lazarus hacking group, pondering the prudence of such a move.Data from DeFi data aggregator DeFiLlama revealed that Seychelles-based HTX, formerly known as Huobi, witnessed nearly $10 million in outflows, with a remaining $2.73 million in customer deposits as of the latest data.Hacker’s identity may be knownThe hacker, who received a series of messages from an address identified as an HTX hot wallet by Nansen, was presented with a stark choice. The messages, written in both English and simplified Chinese, claimed to have uncovered the hacker’s true identity and urged the return of the stolen funds to the address 0x18709E89BD403F470088aBDAcEbE86CC60dda12e. In return, HTX offered a 5% “white hat bonus” valid until October 2, 2023. If the funds were not returned by that date, law enforcement would be involved, the message warned. The hack came shortly after Justin Sun shared a promotional video in which he depicted himself defeating a hooded figure symbolizing a hacker “shorting crypto” with a single punch while on a spaceship journey to what appeared to be Mars.Insolvency fearsOn Tuesday, Sun outlined that the exchange had established a “SAFU” (Safe Asset Fund for Users) fund for platform users. However, taking to X on Monday, Adam Cochran, Managing Partner at Cinneamhain Ventures, claimed that there was a likelihood that the HTX business is insolvent. Cochran maintains that available data suggests a shortfall in crypto holdings relative to HTX users' assets.Travis Kling, Founder and Chief Information Officer of Ikigai Asset Management, went one further on X, stating:”Not “probably”. Huobi is insolvent.”Kling, a long-time critic of Binance, went on to suggest that if Huobi were to collapse, that event would likely lead to Binance unraveling also.HTX originated in China and nowadays maintains offices in Singapore, Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, and the UK. It has long been speculated that Justin Sun has a controlling stake in the HTX business. Sun has denied that assertion, instead suggesting that he is a member of HTX’s “Global Advisory Board.”

ClearVue Partners-Backed Crypto Startup Fund Closed at $50M

ClearVue Partners-Backed Crypto Startup Fund Closed at $50MThe CVP NoLimit Fund I, a crypto-centric fund established by China’s ClearVue Partners, a private equity specialist, has been closed out, reaching a funding level of $50 million.Photo by micheile henderson on UnsplashFunding target achievedThe closing of the fund was announced recently by No Limit Holdings, an investment partnership specializing in global crypto assets based in Malta. ClearVue had entered into a joint venture with No Limit Holdings in order to establish the fund. No Limit Holdings was founded by former Binance Chief Strategy Officer Gin Chao. Partnering with Chao in that venture is another former Binance executive, Anatoly Kondiyakov, who served as Binance’s Head of APAC Institutional Sales in Singapore for four years.News of the fund first emerged in October 2022, when the fund promoters started to distribute a pitch deck. It’s understood that the fund was targeting investment into layer one blockchains prior to their native tokens going live.Chao made the following statement relative to the closing of the fund:“We are grateful for the confidence and trust that our partners have placed in us for this first fund, particularly given the breadth of industries our LP base represents and the challenging macroeconomic conditions during this period. At the same time, this has created an ideal window to deploy capital into the exciting opportunities that the current market presents.”Web3 “where the Internet was in the late 90s”ClearVue Partners Founder, Harry Hui, said that the firm was “excited to team up with Gin and the NLH team. They have deep sector expertise and an incredible track record of success.” Hui added that “Web3.0 is where the Internet was in the late 90s and as blockchain adoption increases, we believe there will be significant value creation for both for our investors as well as for our consumer and technology portfolio companies.”The CVP NoLimit Fund I has already invested in more than twenty crypto projects located globally. Two of them have been listed on multiple digital asset exchanges. Meanwhile, the fund’s administrators have suggested that it has established a robust pipeline of investible projects, and that it has the expectation to invest in an additional twenty projects over the course of the next twelve months.Seed-stage focusThe fund has been focusing on early-stage projects and strategic funding rounds, with individual investments of between $250,000 and $3 million. Some of the projects it has backed thus far include Binance.US, crypto and blockchain infrastructure firm Mysten Labs, Singapore-based dApp developer Hogwarts Labs, Connext Labs which claims to be the HTTP of Web3, and decentralized digital asset money market, IQ Labs.Venture capital investment into the crypto and Web3 space broke all records during the last crypto bull market. Naturally, it has suffered a huge decline in its wake. However, the closing out of this $50 million fund demonstrates that ultimately new money will return to the sector. This is further exemplified by a recent announcement by Kraken Ventures, the venture investment wing of the well-known crypto exchange business, setting out that it is raising a second $100 million fund, earmarked for investment within the sector.
