South Korean blockchain game developer Wemade will participate as the main sponsor in this year’s G-STAR 2023, the global game exhibition to take place from November 16 to 19 in the southern port city of Busan. This marks the company’s second consecutive year as a main sponsor of the event, highlighting its commitment to promoting Korea’s rapidly growing global blockchain gaming market.

“We hope that G-STAR will mark a turning point for Wemade as a blockchain pioneer in the domestic gaming market,” said Henry Chang, the company’s CEO.

Leading the future of gaming

At the exhibition’s B2C section, Wemade will unveil its upcoming releases set to enter the global market via WEMIX PLAY, its blockchain gaming platform. The developer said it will showcase games including the MMORPG “Legend of YMIR,” which is currently in the works at Wemade’s extended reality subsidiary Wemade XR, and the baseball game tentatively titled “Round 1 Baseball” under development by Round 1 Studio, which Wemade will publish.

Wemade also plans to participate in discussions regarding potential collaboration opportunities with other domestic and international gaming and blockchain companies in the B2B section.

CEO Chang is set to deliver the opening keynote speech at G-CON 2023, a conference to be held at the exhibition, on November 17 at 10 AM. He will present his insights into the future vision for the blockchain gaming market.

Moreover, various outdoor events are being prepared to create a festive atmosphere for visitors to enjoy throughout different areas of Busan.

Wemade plans to publish an online page for G-STAR 2023 to provide detailed information about their showcased works and general details about the event.

Success story

Notably, at last year’s G-STAR, Wemade unveiled “Night Crow,” — an MMORPG made by Madngine, a game-developing company that Wemade invested in this year — which drew the attention of the attendees. The game has since topped popularity and sales rankings following its domestic release in April. A blockchain version of the game utilizing tokenomics is also set to launch in the global market at the end of this year.

BIT Exchange Unveils XRP Options Trading

BIT Exchange Unveils XRP Options TradingBIT Exchange, a cryptocurrency derivatives platform, has announced the introduction of XRP options trading in a move that provides for more advanced trading dynamics within the digital assets space. The development, disclosed via a blog post published to the company’s website on Thursday, offers users the unprecedented opportunity to engage in XRP options trading without the need to possess the actual cryptocurrency.Photo by Kanchanara on UnsplashUS dollar settlementA distinguishing feature of this initiative is that profit and loss settlements will be conducted in US dollars. To ensure a seamless experience, BIT Exchange has partnered with OrBit Markets to maintain robust order book liquidity. This expansion of offerings complements the exchange’s existing suite, which already includes stalwarts like Bitcoin (BTC), Ether (ETH), Cardano (ADA), Toncoin (TON), and Milady (LADYS).Facilitating hedgingFor the uninitiated, options are derivative contracts that empower the holder with the right to buy or sell the underlying asset at a predetermined price before a specified date. Call options grant the holder the buying privilege, while put options provide the selling prerogative. Typically deployed for hedging purposes, options play a pivotal role in mitigating bullish or bearish risks, and they can also act as a supplementary revenue source when traders “write” options alongside their spot market holdings.Justin Buitendam, BIT Exchange’s Global Head of Institutional Sales, remarked on the milestone, stating: “We’re excited to be among the early platforms offering XRP options trading to institutional and retail traders, providing both long and short options trading opportunities.”XRP boostAs of now, XRP boasts a market capitalization of $26.5 billion, positioning it as the world’s fifth-largest cryptocurrency. Notably, XRP, akin to several other alternative cryptocurrencies, exhibits greater volatility compared to the more established Bitcoin and Ether. The native token of the Ripple global payments network has experienced a market resurgence in recent weeks, following a positive outcome to a lawsuit taken by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) against Ripple Labs in the United States. In the wake of that decision, many cryptocurrency exchanges that had delisted the token immediately reinstated it. BIT Exchange’s strategic move to introduce XRP options aligns with those recent legal developments.Ripple, as the issuer of the XRP token, garnered a partial victory in its ongoing legal battle against the SEC. The court ruled that XRP is not classified as a security when traded on centralized exchanges. However, a different classification may apply when XRP is directly sold to institutions. The matter is far from settled, however. More recently, the SEC has sought permission to challenge the court’s verdict, underscoring the dynamic and evolving landscape of cryptocurrency regulations.BIT Exchange was spun out of Singapore-based crypto financial services platform, Matrixport. Both have been co-founded by Jihan Wu, better known for having founded leading Chinese crypto mining outfit Bitmain.

Japan’s Mt.Gox to commence creditor repayments shortly

Japan’s Mt.Gox to commence creditor repayments shortlyCreditors of Mt. Gox, the Japanese Bitcoin exchange that suffered a devastating hack in 2014, have received a glimmer of hope with an announcement from the administrators of the Mt.Gox estate that repayments are imminent. The recent announcement from Nobuaki Kobayashi, the trustee overseeing Mt. Gox’s estate was made on Tuesday when Kobayashi initiated the distribution of emails to rehabilitation creditors, hinting at the commencement of repayments. Social media reports have fueled optimism, suggesting that creditors may start receiving repayments in cash in 2023.Photo by Manuel Cosentino on UnsplashFirst round repayments in 2023The email, sent in both Japanese and English, outlined Kobayashi’s plan to initiate the first round of repayments in 2023, with the process extending into 2024. The email highlighted the complexity of the task, citing the large number of rehabilitation creditors, diverse types of repayments and varied processing times required. Despite the lack of specific timelines for individual creditors, the email conveyed a cautiously optimistic tone about progress.Cash vs. bitcoinReaction within the Mt. Gox community has been mixed. Some commentators view Kobayashi’s email as “cautiously promising,” interpreting it as a positive sign that repayments are finally on the horizon. Long-suffering creditors had been informed of a one-year extension to the repayment deadline in September. Additionally, some observers have raised concerns, noting that the email specifically references cash payments, whereas many victims of the Mt. Gox hack anticipate the return of large amounts of bitcoin. The Mt. Gox trustee currently holds 135,890 BTC across known addresses, valued at nearly $5 billion. An additional 3,795 BTC (worth $130 million) are held on unknown addresses. While the email signals progress, questions remain about the nature and extent of the repayments, with the community keenly observing developments. The email stated:“The specific timing of repayment to individual rehabilitation creditors is undetermined, and therefore, it will not be possible to provide advance notice to each rehabilitation creditor regarding the specific timing of their repayment.”Deadlines were also pushed back on other occasions, including March of this year when creditors were sent a “change of deadline“ notification.Redemption of trust assetsThis news coincided with the Mt. Gox trustee’s announcement on Wednesday regarding the redemption of trust assets. A substantial sum of 7 billion Japanese yen (equivalent to $47 million) was redeemed, intended for funding the repayment of claims. Following the redemption, the remaining trust assets stood at 8.8 billion yen, or approximately $59 million. The trustee, as per the official statement, is actively preparing for the base repayment, early lump-sum repayment and intermediate repayment. The recent events surrounding Mt. Gox have sparked discussions within the broader crypto community about the potential for a bitcoin sell-off. It’s long been speculated that the sudden release of bitcoin to creditors could lead to the market being flooded with sellers. However, as it appears that cash is being distributed as well as bitcoin, this should soften any potential bitcoin sell-off.Despite the optimism in some quarters, skepticism lingers due to the history of delays in Mt. Gox repayments. Creditors remain cautiously hopeful for the most part, awaiting further updates and tangible progress in the rehabilitation process.
