GameFi-Oriented MARBLEX Decides to Burn 670M MBX Tokens

MARBLEX, the blockchain subsidiary of South Korean gaming company Netmarble, is going to burn 670 million of its native token MBX on July 19, according to a press release. This move is part of MARBLEX’s plan to overhaul the MBX tokenomics, which was announced last month.

This token burn event involves the elimination of 67% of the total distribution of 1 billion MBX tokens. The tokens earmarked for burning have no designated purpose.

99% support for burning tokens

To determine the fate of these tokens, MARBLEX conducted a voting process from July 4 to 10, allowing Marbleship NFT holders and MBX token holders to participate. The outcome of the vote revealed that 99% of the participants supported burning the tokens.

In preparation for the token burn, MARBLEX plans to share information about the event on cryptocurrency data tracking websites CoinMarketCap and Xangle.

Moving forward, MARBLEX intends to introduce an improved token burn policy in the second half of this year. The revision of its tokenomics will enhance the utility of the MBX token, contributing to the establishment of a sustainable and trustworthy ecosystem.

 

MBX token uses

According to CoinMarketCap, the MBX token is traded on centralized exchanges Bithumb, Huobi, Bybit, Gate.io, MEXC, and Indodax, as well as on the decentralized exchange KLAYswap. Token holders can use MBX to buy items in marketplaces, trade MBX for in-game tokens, and exchange MBX with other game players. Notable MBX games include A3: Still Alive, a battle royale MMORPG; Ni no Kuni: Cross Worlds, a fantasy MMORPG; The King of Fighters ARENA, a fighting game; and Meta World: My City, a Web3 property management game.

Shots Fired in New OKX Ad CampaignGlobal crypto spot and derivatives exchange OKX has launched a daring ad campaign that sets US-based rival exchange Coinbase firmly in its cross hairs.The formerly Chinese and now Seychelles-based exchange has pushed out a global ad campaign along the following theme: “The system doesn’t need an upgrade; it needs a rewrite.” The ads were launched on Tuesday, pointing out the ills of the traditional, centralized financial system.Photo by Merakist on UnsplashCrypto exchange rivalryThe advert doesn’t explicitly call out its rival, Coinbase. However, it is nuanced in taking a subtle dig at the US-based exchange. Exactly two months prior, on March 9, Coinbase released its own ad campaign. Coinbase claimed in its ad that “it’s time to update the system,” with OKX’s subsequent commercial having been carefully worded to poke fun at the Coinbase commercial.With a number of high profile epic failures of crypto businesses over the past twelve months, including the fall of FTX, the remaining exchanges in the business have been tripping over themselves in an effort to convince the alternative asset-investing public that theirs is the safest platform upon which they can securely trade.In its sixty second commercial, OKX poses the question “why don’t we change everything?”, set up by its claim that the conventional finance system is broken.The last of the big spendersThere’s been a notable change of strategy in the marketing activities of crypto businesses since the height of the last crypto bull run. Gone are the marketing excesses exemplified most by the now bankrupt FTX exchange.FTX demonstrated itself to be a profligate spender on all manner and means of marketing, particularly during 2021 and 2022. It paid Wall Street investor and Shark Tank star Kevin O’Leary $15 million to be a spokesperson for the company. Similar deals were struck with a range of celebrities including former NBA star Shaquille O’Neal, NFL stars such as former New England Patriots quarterback, Tom Brady, and a host of others.At the height of its marketing opulence, the fraudulently run firm signed a $135 million sponsorship deal that provided it with the naming rights to the home stadium of the NBA’s Miami Heat. 2022's Super Bowl, one of the world’s largest single marketing opportunities, saw FTX and others pay out big on advertising spend.By contrast, this year’s Super Bowl was almost a complete washout as far as crypto business participation was concerned. Meanwhile, all of the celebrities that featured in FTX’s marketing activities have found themselves the subject of multi-million dollar class action lawsuits filed by FTX creditors.A more sobering marketing strategyDespite the reputational damage that crypto has suffered due to these high profile failures, firms like OKX and Coinbase have continued to maintain a responsible level of advertising and marketing activity.That’s best exemplified by OKX’s ongoing marketing relationships with McLaren’s Formula One racing team and Manchester City Football Club. In March, US-based crypto exchange Kraken announced a marketing partnership with the Williams Formula One racing team.Crypto.com is probably the only crypto firm that spent excessively during the last bull run yet has continued to maintain a relatively high level of marketing activity. Much of that may have been due to commitments it had made during a more buoyant market. Notwithstanding that, the firm did fall foul of the UK advertising regulator, who banned its NFT promotion in December 2022.

Korea’s Chungcheongbuk-do to Foster Regional Blockchain EcosystemChungcheongbuk-do, a South Korean province located 117km south of Seoul, has entered into a partnership with the Korea Internet and Security Agency (KISA) to launch a regional blockchain initiative. The province won the bid for this initiative, proposed by the Ministry of Science and ICT, with the goal of fostering a thriving blockchain ecosystem within the region. The province of Chungcheongbuk-do will offer consulting services to assist startups in exploring innovative blockchain solutions. They will also provide comprehensive support, including accommodations, infrastructure, equipment, and access to cloud computing platforms.Blockchain into other industriesFurthermore, Chungcheongbuk-do will extend funding opportunities and implement educational programs to nurture skilled individuals and develop a self-sustaining blockchain sector within the province. The goal is to catalyze the emergence of innovative business models that incorporate blockchain technology into various industries such as storage batteries, semiconductors, and parts and materials. This initiative is expected to boost the region’s economy and enhance its competitive advantage.Since the establishment of the Chungbuk Blockchain Promotion Center at CBIST in 2018, the provincial government has been actively involved in discovering and planning various blockchain projects and raising awareness. With the current blockchain initiative, Chungcheongbuk-do aims to build a comprehensive support system that will facilitate the growth of the regional blockchain sector.Kim Jin-hyung, Chief of the Science and Talent Bureau of the Chungcheongbuk-do government, expressed that this blockchain initiative aligns with the strategic vision of the elected local government to establish a high-tech region. The provincial government is dedicated to identifying software-focused projects that can strengthen startup ecosystems and empower young entrepreneurs.
