The global version of Night Crows, a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) developed by South Korean game company Wemade, officially launched yesterday, as announced in the company’s press release

Powered by Unreal Engine 5, Night Crows Global maximizes visual performance by delivering highly realistic lighting and shadow effects. The game is set in 13th-century Europe and merges history and fantasy, offering an intriguing in-game universe. Players can enjoy intense battles backed by cutting-edge graphics. They can choose their weapons from four class types –  one-handed sword, staff, two-handed sword and bow – and explore various content including a Unified Exchange.

Tokenomics and character NFTs powered by blockchain technology

Night Crows Global implements multi-tokenomics to tokenize a total of seven types of in-game items and adopts character NFTs, which compresses game character data into easily identifiable attributes.

These character NFTs can be exchanged for the game’s main token, CROW, within the WEMIX PLAY blockchain gaming platform, connecting the in-game and real-world economies. In addition, the omnichain network strategy enhances user accessibility, enabling users of other blockchain networks connected to Wemade’s WEMIX3.0 ecosystem to play the game with ease.

Meanwhile, Night Crows has already demonstrated its popularity before the global launch. Since its initial launch in April last year in Korea, the game topped mobile game sales on Google Play and App Store, the two most prominent mobile app markets in the country.

Upcoming in-game events

In celebration of the global launch, Night Crows Global holds various in-game events for up to four weeks. The month-long celebration comprises a check-in event “Festival 1: Answer to the Call,” a mission event “Festival 2: Birth of a New Member” and a ranking event “Festival 3: News from the Night Crow Perch.” By completing these events, players will be rewarded with various items such as “Dawn’s Lustrous Weapon Style Summon.”

Wemade CEO Henry Chang expressed his excitement about the global launch, saying that Night Crows Global will be able to capture global audiences’ attention by offering new omnichain experiences and high-quality multi-tokenomics. He added that Night Crows Global’s success will revitalize not only WEMIX PLAY but also spur the overall growth of the WEMIX mainnet ecosystem.

Pyth Network brings Hong Kong stock pricing on-chain

Pyth Network, an oracle network that provides a bridge between blockchain smart contracts and real-world data, has added pricing data related to stocks listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange (HKEX) to its service offering. Data covering 85 stocksIn a social media post, the project stated that it’s “bringing the Hong Kong market onchain.” In building out the future of finance, DeFi application developers need real-world data from traditional finance sources. Pyth Network confirmed that real-time data in the case of 85 stocks listed on HKEX is now live. In announcing the development, the company disclosed that price feed data is updated every 400 milliseconds and sourced from institutional-grade venues. Once added to the Pyth Network, the data is made available on a multi-network basis across in excess of 100 blockchain networks.Photo by Anne Nygård on UnsplashGateway dataHKEX data is perceived to be significant given that it is a major global exchange, while acting as a key gateway between global and Chinese markets. Pyth Network stated: “Whether you’re building trading strategies, structured products, tokenized portfolios, or simply want access to real-world stock prices from Asia’s financial gateway, these feeds bring Hong Kong’s equity market onchain openly, instantly, and permissionlessly.” In a blog post published to its website on July 28, Pyth Network outlined that this data addition accounts for data related to companies that have a combined equity market value of over $5 trillion. The project stated that this new data is “giving builders, traders, and protocols around the world direct, real-time access to one of the largest financial markets on earth.” Improving access to APAC equitiesThe project made the point that for many years, access to real-time data from the primary markets within the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region has been cost-prohibitive. It claimed that data terminals with this information can cost in excess of $30,000 per year. Pyth Network feels that with its market offering now incorporating HKEX market data, it is opening up access to this data for developers and DeFi protocol projects. This development is the latest in a string of updates that the project has brought about recently. Earlier this month, the project announced a partnership with tokenized real-world asset (RWA) provider Ondo Finance. The deal sees the duo oversee the launch of a USDY/USD price feed, which will be distributed by Pyth across 65 blockchain ecosystems. Similar to its latest unlocking of HKEX equity data, in June it enabled access to real-time onchain pricing related to the UK’s most actively traded equities. Going forward, the company states that “foundational market data will be open, composably integrated, updated in real-time, and available to anyone with an internet connection.” In March 2024, Pyth’s price feeds went live on Injective inEVM, an Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM)-compatible layer-2 rollup developed by Injective Labs. At the time of writing, the unit price of PYTH, Pyth Network’s native utility and governance token, was $0.1204, according to CoinGecko data.

OKX shores up App security following bug discovery

OKX shores up App security following bug discoveryCryptocurrency exchange OKX has swiftly responded to a recently uncovered security flaw by releasing an updated version (v6.45.0) of its iOS app.User data and asset vulnerabilityThe flaw was identified by Web3 and blockchain security specialist CertiK. It posed a Remote Code Execution (RCE) vulnerability that had the potential to compromise sensitive user data and crypto assets. Notwithstanding that, no user assets were lost or security compromised.Taking to the X social media platform on Tuesday, CertiK wrote:”Attention! We urge users of OKX wallets to update their iOS app to the latest version immediately. Earlier this month, we identified and reported a critical Remote Code Execution (RCE) vulnerability in the OKX iOS App, leading to potential compromise of sensitive data and crypto assets.”Photo by FLY:D on UnsplashPrompt responseRecognizing the risk, OKX has acted promptly to rectify the issue and commit to protecting user assets. It too followed up on social media with its own announcement:”Thanks @Certik for the note. We’ve completed the relevant upgrade & this is no longer an issue. We have verified that this did not impact any customer assets. The fix has been deployed to iOS version 6.45.0 & we recommend you update the app asap.”Ongoing exploitsThis security incident has played out amid a backdrop that has seen a worrying number of hacks, exploits and vulnerabilities in the crypto space. In recent weeks, hacks at HTX (formerly Huobi), cross-chain bridge Heco and Poloniex have accounted for millions of dollars in losses. As recently as last week, users of the Ledger hardware wallet were told by the company not to connect to decentralized applications as it had discovered that a malicious version of its Ledger Connect software had been distributed.Industry collaborationThe collaboration between OKX and CertiK in addressing this security concern is demonstrative of how industry actors are having to cooperate in order to deal effectively with these vulnerabilities and threats.Transparent communication and a swift response in this instance are likely to have played a role in minimizing any potential loss. In a noteworthy development, OKX, in collaboration with Tether, has collaborated with the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) to freeze $225 million in USDT tokens. This unprecedented action primarily targeted a human trafficking syndicate in Southeast Asia, illustrating the increasing cooperation between crypto entities and law enforcement in addressing illegal activities involving digital currencies. The immediate resolution of the iOS app vulnerability in this instance resulted in no loss occurring. That outcome underscores the importance of the prioritization of user safety and data security. With the updated app version (v6.45.0) now available, users can proceed with their crypto transactions with renewed confidence in the platform’s security measures. As the cryptocurrency landscape evolves, crypto platforms and platform users will need to remain vigilant in order to safeguard and protect funds.
