Memeland Coin Launch Secures $10M for the Project

Web3 & Enterprise·October 27, 2023, 12:41 AM

Memeland, a Web3 venture studio, made headlines on Thursday as its token sale for MEME tokens reached $10 million in commitments just after going live. The people behind the project are the Hong Kong-based team that is also associated with the popular meme-sharing site, 9GAG.

Memeland represents a collection of 9,999 utility-enabled profile pictures (PFPs).

9GAG is a meme-centric Hong Kong-based entertainment website that gained a significant following since its launch in 2008. With millions of followers across various social media platforms, 9GAG’s foray into the Web3 space through Memeland was eagerly awaited. Memeland had already introduced several NFT projects, including Captainz, Potatoez, and MVP, prior to launching its native token on Thursday.

42 minute sell-out

Supporters of the project had joined a waitlist prior to them being granted access to the sale. Earlier in the week, the project had tweeted out that the MEME tokens that it was gearing up to sell had “No utility. No roadmap. No promises. No expectation of financial return. Just 100% memes.” In fact, this mantra has been etched into the project’s whitepaper from the outset. “$MEME is completely useless and for entertainment purposes only,” the whitepaper clarifies.

Even though the sale had already sold out in record time, it was scheduled to continue until Friday morning. During this extended period, those who have previously joined the waitlist can gain access to the tokens.

The team behind Memeland, having clocked up experience previously via 9GAG, has made them no strangers to the world of online humor and entertainment. The Memeland project introduces an array of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) and innovative applications that fuse elements from the metaverse, gaming, and NFTs.

Project pipeline

Memeland is gearing up to launch various additional platforms in the near future. These include Holders.com, a travel service; GMGM.com, a video-sharing platform; Stakeland, which will be a crypto staking application; and Petsland, a service centered around pets.

MEME tokenomics

The MEME token has a total supply of 69,000,000,000 MEME, with an initial price per token set at US$0.001. According to the Memecoin team, 2.75% of the total supply will be unlocked on the first day, with the remaining amount unlocked daily over the next 18 months.

The token distribution breakdown is as follows:

Private sale: 6,900,000,000 (10%) — Exclusively for Memeland Captainz holders

Contributors: 13,800,000,000 (20%) — Partners and team members contributing to the Memeland project

Fire sale: 8,280,000,000 (12%) — Reserved for the allowlist and certain waitlist participants

Airdrops: 17,250,000,000 (25%)

Ecosystem fund: 22,770,000,000 (33%)

Those who possess specific NFTs from the Memeland ecosystem have received varying allocations during the Fire Sale, depending on the type, rarity, and quantity of their holdings.

With a strong foundation rooted in meme culture and a team experienced in delivering internet humor to millions, Memeland’s potential development going forward may be as exciting as the memes that inspired it.

BingX signs sponsorship deal with English Premier League club

Singapore-based cryptocurrency trading platform BingX has secured a sponsorship deal as the new sleeve sponsor for Premier League football club Chelsea.Photo by Chaos Soccer Gear on UnsplashJanuary 9 debutThe arrangement, spanning the next six months, is expected to debut during Chelsea’s Carabao Cup semi-final first-leg match against Middlesbrough on Jan. 9. As part of this sponsorship, BingX will prominently feature on the front of Chelsea’s training kits for the upcoming 2024/25 season. Meanwhile, the current shirt sponsor, Infinite Athlete, will transition to a training sleeve sponsorship starting next season. While details about the fate of Chelsea’s training kit deal with Trivago, an online hotel booking site, remain uncertain, the club is navigating sponsorship changes in the wake of owner Roman Abramovich’s prior ownership and UK government sanctions. Corporate rebrandEstablished in 2018, BingX operates as a cryptocurrency exchange headquartered in Singapore, catering to a user base of over 10 million in Southeast Asia and North America. In November, the company announced that it was rebranding the business. Part of that process was understood to involve an overhaul of BingX’s visual identity, with the introduction of a streamlined logo. Sponsorship within the English Premier League is a high profile marketing move that will undoubtedly bring more visibility to that brand. Crypto marketing spend reboundThe marketing spend of crypto firms relative to high profile sponsorship deals has recovered significantly in recent months. Such sponsorship deals peaked at the top of the crypto market in 2021. That period saw profligate spending by many of the large crypto platforms. A standout example was provided by the $135 million sponsorship deal signed by fraudulently run crypto exchange FTX for the Miami Heat stadium naming rights in the United States. While that opulent sponsorship spending subsided during the bear market, it appears that there has been a modest resurgence as market conditions have improved. Seychelles-based crypto platform OKX has ongoing marketing relationships with the McLaren Formula One racing team and Manchester City Football Club. In March, U.S.-based crypto exchange Kraken announced a marketing partnership with the Williams Formula One racing team. Earlier this week it emerged that crypto gambling platform Stake.com had signed a sponsorship deal with the Sauber Formula One team. 18 of the 20 English Premier League clubs are now understood to have agreed sponsorship deals at one time or another with crypto companies. This demonstrates the growing trend of cryptocurrency platforms associating with high-profile sports partnerships, enhancing their visibility and influence in the market. Chelsea is actively seeking a front-of-shirt sponsorship deal, considering potential collaborations, including discussions with Saudi national carrier Riyadh Air. It’s understood that the BingX deal has been agreed for in excess of £10 million ($12.7 million) per season.

Titi Financial Announces $TITI Airdrop

Titi Financial Announces $TITI AirdropTiti Financial, the team behind Titi Protocol, a project that aims to further its $TiUSD algorithmic stablecoin, announced that it is currently distributing the first round of airdrops of its $TITI governance token.Taking to social media, the Singapore-based project encouraged interested parties to check their eligibility for the airdrop on the project’s website. In a Medium blog post, the project stated: “In order to give back to the users who have supported us all the way, TiTi protocol has decided to conduct the first round of airdrops to community users.”An algorithmic stablecoinTiTi Protocol is a decentralized, 100% collateral-backed, ‘use-to-earn’ algorithmic stablecoin. It aims to provide diversified and decentralized financial services based on the crypto-native stablecoin system, with an autonomous monetary policy.Alongside $TITI as the project’s governance token, $TiUSD is the accompanying stablecoin issued by TiTi Protocol.Initial DEX offering (IDO)The airdrop runs until May 9. Once that process has been completed, the project intends to launch on mainnet through an initial DEX offering (IDO). IDO volume will be 10 million $TITI, 1% of total issuance, with an initial price per token of $0.06.Launching on the Ethereum blockchain, the IDO commences on May 10, with the sale running until 8:00 UTC on May 13. Buyers have until 08:00 UTC on May 14 to claim their tokens. Total token supply has been set at 1,000,000,000 $TITI. Purchase amount parameters have been set, with a minimum to maximum range extending from $100 to $3,000. The $TITI token can be purchased using USDC, USDT or DAI stablecoin. The project has advised participants to prepare by having an Ethereum compatible wallet available, such as MetaMask, Gnosis Safe or WalletConnect.$3.5 million fund raiseLast month, the project disclosed that it had been successful in raising $3.5 million in funding. The funding round was led by California-based Spartan Group, a blockchain advisory and asset management firm. Other venture investors included SevenX Ventures, Incuba Alpha, DeFi Alliance, Agnostic Fund, Fourth Revolution Capital and Solidity Venture. A number of individual investors associated with Alpha Venture DAO and 0x1b from Fold Finance also participated.Overcoming algorithmic design shortcomingsIt’s interesting to see a renewed interest in algorithmic stablecoins after the epic collapse of Terra Luna in 2022. Additionally, it’s noteworthy that an institutional investment appetite exists given that backdrop. Lead investor Spartan Group cited the depegging risk alongside poor liquidity as being a known problem where algorithmic stablecoins are concerned. However, the investor believes that the Titi Protocol has the necessary design elements incorporated to counteract these issues. One of the key features of the protocol is that liquidity providers only need to provide single sided liquidity to Titi automated market makers (AMMs). The protocol itself covers the other side of that process, doing the math to mint the equivalent value of TiUSD.In April, the project also announced a partnership with Alpha Venture DAO. The decentralized venture capital fund is financed by its own community. Furthermore, Titi Finance can call on the expertise and skills of the DAOs members.Photo by CoinWire Japan on Unsplash
