amana makes 300 additional cryptocurrencies available to app users

Web3 & Enterprise·March 19, 2025, 3:07 AM

amana, a Dubai-based neo-broker, has announced that it is adding another 300 cryptocurrencies to its app.

450 crypto assets

A neo-broker is an online-based digital investment service provider that leverages technology and online tools to make investing and trading more accessible to the broader investing and trading public.

The firm announced the product expansion via a press release published on its behalf by GlobeNewswire on March 17. Prior to the announcement, amana had offered its service users access to 150 cryptocurrencies. Expanding the range to a total of 450 cryptocurrencies makes it the leading broker in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region in terms of the breadth of digital assets it has made accessible to users.

All-in-one service offering

The company described the offering as “unmatched,” allowing amana to firmly position itself as the go-to platform where the seamless trading of both traditional and digital assets is concerned.

amana believes that its offering fills a gap in the market. Most platforms, it claims, either cater to the digital assets market or the traditional finance market. The platform sees itself as an all-in-one solution, making it unnecessary for investors and traders to create multiple accounts.

Speaking to that gap in the market that the company wants to exploit, amana CEO Muhammad Rasoul stated:

“We’re making it easier than ever for our customers to trade digital assets alongside stocks, forex, and commodities—all in one place, with zero hassle.”

The firm added that the expansion isn’t just about offering a greater selection of digital assets. The announcement said that “it’s about seamless access, competitive pricing, and a frictionless trading experience.” The company described the amana app as “intuitive,” with the ability to empower both seasoned traders and new investors through the ease of trading within a few taps.

Alongside the 450 digital assets, the platform provides users with access to U.S. stocks, FX, commodities, gold and global exchange-traded funds (ETFs). amana also facilitates users to trade using leverage and to avail of automated investment plans. Futures products and contracts for difference (CFDs) complete the product offering lineup.

Having first launched in September 2022, the platform claimed recently that it has over 320,000 users accessing the service. Besides Dubai, amana has offices in London, Limassol and Beirut.

The company is not the first online broker to bridge the gap between traditional finance and digital assets. American commission-free trading platform Robinhood has made in-roads into crypto. The company has plans to roll out its crypto offerings to the Singapore market later this year.

UK-based neobank Revolut has expanded into the world of investing, including crypto as part of that offering. It emerged last year that the firm has plans to launch a stablecoin.

flatexDEGIRO, a European online broker that offers stocks, bonds and exchange-traded funds (ETFs), outlined last November that it plans to extend its product offering to include cryptocurrencies.

Japan works towards clearing legislative path for CBDC

Japan appears to be gearing up for the potential launch of its central bank digital currency (CBDC), the digital yen, as the government and the Bank of Japan (BoJ) collaboratively lay the legislative foundation for its rollout. While neither the BoJ nor the government has officially committed to the CBDC launch, recent developments indicate an accelerated push for its development. The BoJ's heightened focus on digital yen comes amidst concerns about falling behind China's and Europe's rapid progress in the CBDC space.Photo by Wenhao Ji on UnsplashOvercoming legal issuesAccording to a report by Japanese media outlet NHK, in a recent meeting, the Japanese government and the BoJ discussed future tasks and legal issues related to its CBDC implementation. To ensure a smooth and legally unobstructed launch, Tokyo aims to establish the necessary legal framework well in advance. Local news media Coinpost reported that the proposed legislation is set to "assume the introduction of the digital yen" and may involve amendments to key laws such as the Bank of Japan Act, the Criminal Code and the Civil Code. The goal is to finalize the list of required legal amendments by spring of the current year. In a meeting between Japan's central bank and the Finance Ministry, executives from relevant ministries and central bank directors explored various aspects of the CBDC. Discussions included the collaboration between a potential central bank digital currency and private cashless businesses, with a focus on convenience and personal data protection. Finance Ministry keen on launch ASAPLast month, the central bank received a report from a Ministry of Finance expert panel which recommended the launch of the digital yen without delay. The Ministry of Finance's December meeting addressed the division of roles between the Bank of Japan and intermediary banks, proposing a "two-tiered model" where domestic commercial banks play a pivotal role in digital yen issuance. Acting as intermediary institutions, these banks will bridge the gap between the central bank and digital yen users. The government and the BoJ are also contemplating ways to involve private businesses in the CBDC project while ensuring fair competition. Security and data privacy considerationsKey considerations in the discussions involve interoperability with other payment methods, ensuring security and handling user information safely. There is also an exploration of potential cross-border payment options. The government and the BoJ are committed to a comprehensive approach that considers various aspects of the CBDC project. Japan's unique context in the CBDC landscape is highlighted, with its continued reliance on cash and the presence of multiple private-sector tokenized money initiatives. Notably, the country boasts over 100 institutions and enterprises exploring digital currency through a digital currency forum since 2020. Separate initiatives, such as the MUFG-backed Progmat DLT platform, contribute to Japan's diverse digital currency landscape. Providing another example of progression in the digital assets arena, it emerged in September that the country is looking to permit startups to raise capital from venture capital firms using digital tokens rather than traditional equity.

Metaplanet raises funds to fulfill 2027 Bitcoin goal

Japanese Bitcoin treasury company Metaplanet, whose shares are listed on the Tokyo stock exchange (3350/TYO), has taken an important step towards its goal of holding 210,000 BTC by 2027. ‘Asia’s largest-ever equity raise’The firm’s CEO, Simon Gerovich, took to the X social media platform on June 6 to outline details of what he termed “Asia’s largest-ever equity raise.” Gerovich stated that Metaplanet had raised 770.9 billion yen ($5.4 billion) by means of moving strike warrants, implicating 555 million shares. Moving strike warrants are a type of equity warrant through which the strike price changes over time. Photo by Cullen Cedric on UnsplashGerovich claimed that the warrants were issued at a premium to the market due to Metaplanet’s “high volatility and deep liquidity.” The Metaplanet CEO stated that the firm is targeting 100,000 BTC by the end of 2026 and 210,000 by the end of 2027. On June 2, the firm announced that it had acquired its latest tranche of Bitcoin, adding another 1,088 BTC to its corporate treasury. The company paid an average Bitcoin unit price of 15,519,019 yen ($107,000). Metaplanet has adopted the treasury playbook first pioneered by Michael Saylor’s Strategy (formerly MicroStrategy), acquiring the leading crypto asset through a combination of equity issuance, debt financing and opportunistic buying.  Russell Okung, a former professional American football player and well-known Bitcoin proponent, took to X on June 6 to highlight that Saylor “lit the match” through Strategy in the United States.  Okung stated: “Metaplanet just launched the rocket in Asia. When capital moves, narratives follow.”He added that “Metaplanet didn’t just buy Bitcoin. They’re directing global attention toward Japan.” Both Metaplanet and Strategy have appealed to investors who are otherwise not in a position to gain exposure to Bitcoin directly, either as a result of regulatory issues or concerns with regard to the custody of the digital asset.  Corporate treasuries adopting BitcoinIn addition to these companies who have led first with a Bitcoin treasury as their primary attraction, other corporates have added Bitcoin to their corporate treasuries while maintaining their focus on other business activities.  Announcements have come thick and fast over the course of recent weeks, particularly in the Asian region.  A number of Nasdaq-listed companies, including Hong Kong-based Reitar Holdings, Indonesian fintech firm DigiAsia, Malaysia-based Treasure Global and South Korea-based K Wave Media, have all announced the addition of Bitcoin to their corporate treasuries.  Metaplanet’s new funding round will put it on track to achieve the goal of obtaining 210,000 BTC by 2027, equating to approximately 1% of the entire Bitcoin supply. The Japanese firm’s shares have risen in price by over 275% since the beginning of this year. According to BitcoinTreasuries.net, Strategy remains the largest corporate treasury holder of Bitcoin with 582,000 BTC. It’s followed by MARA Holdings, Twenty One, Riot Platforms, Galaxy Digital Holdings and CleanSpark. Tesla, Hut 8 Mining Corp and Coinbase Global also feature prior to Metaplanet which comes in tenth place.
