Dunamu, the fintech company operating South Korea’s leading crypto exchange Upbit, announced on Wednesday that Upbit has added a new feature called the Experimental Lab, which allows users to try out new functions before their official release.

“Through the Experimental Lab, we will progressively introduce various features and actively gather user feedback to enhance our service experience,” the exchange said.

Empowering insightful investment

The first feature unveiled through the Experimental Lab allows users to view the statistics of their investment performance — in other words, their profits and losses — for any given timeframe, all in one place. This includes cumulative return rates, the average amount of money they invested, and more. This is one of the most frequently requested updates, according to the exchange.

The feature also provides information on three types of returns: simple return rate, time-weighted return rate, and money-weighted return rate.

Simple return rate calculates the actual gains and losses relative to a user’s initial investment amount. Time-weighted return rate calculates an account’s performance over a specific period while ignoring the effects of external cash flows, such as timing and size. On the other hand, money-weighted return rate calculates investment performance while factoring in changes in external cash flows.

Users interested in trying out Experimental Lab can find it in the “More” tab on the Upbit mobile app or the “My” tab on the PC site located at the bottom right corner of the page.

Customer-centered philosophy

This move aligns with Upbit’s commitment to providing a better service experience by incorporating user feedback into their feature development and updating processes.

Alibaba Cloud Partners With Avalanche to Deploy MetaversesChina’s Alibaba Cloud, a subsidiary of the e-commerce behemoth Alibaba Group, and one of the world’s largest cloud computing companies, has entered into a partnership with layer one blockchain project Avalanche. The cloud division of the Chinese tech giant has built a launchpad which will allow businesses to deploy metaverses, hosted on the Avalanche blockchain.Photo by C Dustin on UnsplashEnter the CloudverseAlibaba has named the launchpad “Cloudverse”. In accessing the Cloudverse, businesses will be enabled in customizing, launching and maintaining their very own metaverses, running on top of the Avalanche blockchain. In a tweeted message on Thursday, the Avalanche project team stated that “Alibaba Cloud’s millions of clients can easily deploy custom metaverses and unlock new dimensions for consumers.” It’s clear that the blockchain specialist sees the value in linking up with an entity with the market reach that Alibaba Cloud can provide. Expanding on that, it stated: “Cloudverse gives businesses an easy, white-glove, and cost-effective way to expand their brands to the Web3 virtual world.”Singapore’s MUA DAOAlongside Alibaba Cloud and Avalanche, a Singapore-based project is participating in the collaboration. Metaverse Union of Architects Decentralized Autonomous Organization makes for quite a long-winded entity, meaning that the project is more commonly known as MUA DAO. The DAO sees its mission as helping entities to overcome the technological hurdles of the crypto world by offering the largest virtual reality guild of architects, thus making available a large number of capable builders for the metaverse.Taking to Twitter on Thursday, the project outlined that the partnership marked a significant milestone for the DAO. “As the metaverse middleware, #MUADAO will support Cloudverse from creation and customization to continual operation in #MUAverse,” it outlined.MUA DAO sees the likely outcome of the collaboration as leading to a cost effective mechanism through which Asia-Pacific businesses can expand into the Web3 world, empowering clients to create custom metaverses and unlocking new customer experiences.MUA DAO terms its offering as “MUAverse, describing it as “a one-stop Metaverse Middleware Infrastructure developed and operated by MUADAO, designed to empower enterprises and businesses in the creation, operation, and management of digital assets.”Avalanche’s unique structureThe three entities coordinated the announcement of the collaboration to coincide with the Avalanche Summit II conference, which commenced on Wednesday in Barcelona, Spain and runs until Friday. As a layer one blockchain, Avalanche has a unique structure which enables subnets, sets of nodes or validators which can be built on top of blockchains. Subnets offer the advantage of allowing developers to customize them on an application-specific basis. Such a blockchain infrastructure will be beneficial in facilitating customizable blockchain solutions relative to the proposed Cloudverse.Blockchain credentialsRecently, Alibaba announced its intention to open a Web3 incubator lab in Japan. The lab will be a collaboration between Alibaba, Tokyu Land Corporation and Skeleton Crew Studio. One of its principal objectives will be to enable game developers to learn about and harness blockchain technology relative to virtual reality gaming.Additionally, Alibaba Cloud intends to launch a blockchain node service in Japan at a later stage in 2023. In a further nod to its blockchain credentials, Alibaba Cloud was also a co-organiser of Hong Kong’s recently-held Web3 Festival, alongside Amazon Web Services and Hong Kong-based Cyberport.

Crypto.com unlocks regulated expansion through UK FCA licensing award

Crypto.com unlocks regulated expansion through UK FCA licensing awardSingapore’s Crypto.com has obtained an Electronic Money Institution (EMI) license from the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) in the United Kingdom. The approval complements the platform’s existing status as a registered crypto-asset business, a milestone achieved in August 2022.Photo by Robert Tudor on UnsplashSet to expand product offeringIn a press release published to its website on Monday, the company outlined that the EMI license represents a pivotal step for the firm, empowering the exchange to issue and manage electronic money. This expansion goes beyond its initial crypto-asset business focus, which concentrated primarily on compliance with anti-money laundering (AML) and counter-terrorist financing (CTF) regulations. The regulatory nod came after Crypto.com underwent a comprehensive examination of its business and compliance practices, ensuring alignment with the stringent AML and CTF requirements in the UK.With this authorization in hand, Crypto.com is poised to introduce a range of e-money products tailored for the UK market. This move aligns the company with other cryptocurrency firms like Coinbase and Gemini, which have previously secured similar licenses.Notwithstanding that, while some other well-known platforms have struggled with recently introduced rules related to the marketing of crypto products and services in the UK, Crypto.com’s UK subsidiary company, FORIS DAX UK LIMITED, had successfully registered with the FCA in October.Building out global expansionWhile a trend has emerged in 2023 for crypto platforms to expand within regional markets around the world beyond the United States, Crypto.com has been following a global strategy for some time already. Last month, CRO DAX Middle East, a subsidiary company of Crypto.com, secured a license from the Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (VARA) in Dubai to offer regulated virtual asset services.Earlier this year, Patrick Yoon, General Manager of Crypto.com’s Korean business outlined plans for expansion within that market, including the aspiration to obtain the banking relationship required in order to conduct virtual asset trading business in South Korea.Dutch licensing successEarlier in July, Crypto.com received approval from the Dutch central bank, De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB), to extend its cryptocurrency services in the Netherlands. This recognition places Crypto.com among the 36 cryptocurrency-related businesses approved by the Dutch central bank, joining major industry players like Coinbase Europe, eToro and Bitstamp. Notably, this approval followed Binance’s inability to secure registration in the Netherlands, leading to its exit from the country.Expressing enthusiasm about this achievement, Kris Marszalek, CEO of Crypto.com, emphasized the importance of the UK market for their business. He stated:“The UK has and continues to be a hugely important market for our business and the greater industry. We look forward to continuing to collaborate with a global regulatory leader in the FCA in our collective pursuit of responsible innovation for crypto.”Crypto.com’s global expansion strategy includes regulatory approvals in Singapore, France, Italy, Dubai and Australia. However, in a strategic shift, the platform discontinued its institutional exchange service for professional customers in the United States in June. Citing a decline in demand, this move aligns with the broader market conditions in the U.S., influenced by ongoing legal actions against major exchanges such as Binance and Coinbase.
