Web3 & Enterprise·September 29, 2023, 11:32 PM

OKX Ventures, the investment branch of the Seychelles-headquartered cryptocurrency exchange OKX, has made a strategic investment in Singapore’s 0xScope.

Knowledge graph protocol

In a press release published by GlobeNewswire on Thursday, details of the deal between the venture investor and the data intelligence platform were laid out. 0xScope has carved out a unique niche by offering a knowledge graph protocol tailored for both Web2 and Web3 data, catering to a diverse audience, including developers, traders, and blockchain protocols.

At the forefront of the startup’s offering is Scopescan, a blockchain analytics platform that harnesses the potential of the firm’s knowledge graph. Scopescan provides comprehensive data on over 84 million addresses, 600,000 tokens, 1.4 million labeled addresses, and millions of exchange wallets. The platform empowers users to track and analyze on-chain activities across various blockchain networks, a vital feature for the continued growth of the Web3 ecosystem.

Dora Yue, the Founder of OKX Ventures, emphasized the crucial role of data in Web3’s three core technological pillars: cross-chain integration, decentralized storage, and privacy computing. Through its knowledge graph technology, 0xScope has made strides in advancing these areas. The collaboration between OKX Ventures and 0xScope has the potential to accelerate the development of Web3.

Undisclosed investment sum

While the exact investment amount remains undisclosed, the deal signifies OKX Ventures’ interest in supporting 0xScope’s mission of decentralizing and democratizing Web2 and Web3 data sources. Together, they aspire to create an open-source environment that facilitates seamless uploading, downloading, validation, and processing of data within the Web3 realm.

OKX Ventures, as the investment arm of OKX, boasts an initial capital pool of $100 million. It actively explores promising blockchain projects worldwide and champions innovative technology solutions. The collaboration with 0xScope aligns perfectly with their mission to drive innovation and progress in the blockchain and crypto sectors.

Moonbox investment

In addition to its investment in 0xScope, OKX Ventures recently allocated $1 million to Moonbox, a Hong Kong-based startup focused on artificial intelligence and Web3 technologies. This strategic move reinforces OKX Ventures’ dedication to nurturing cutting-edge technologies and further solidifies its presence in the blockchain and crypto space.

Meanwhile, 0xScope is on a mission to democratize and decentralize connectivity in Web2 and Web3 data. Their unique ability to track all associated addresses of an entity offers what the firm believes to be unparalleled insights into user behavior across different addresses and blockchain networks. This capability positions it at the forefront of the Web3 data revolution.

With their combined expertise and resources, the two companies are set to drive innovation, foster inclusivity, and empower users in the evolving Web3 ecosystem. Uplifted in having secured the deal, the 0xScope team took to X (formerly Twitter), stating:

“Looking forward to collaborating and contributing to the growth of the OKX ecosystem. Together, let’s drive innovation and empower the future of decentralized finance!”

With 0xScope gearing up to introduce new features in the fourth quarter of 2023, there’s likely to be more news to follow from the Singaporean startup relative to the future development of Web3 data.

UK Watchdog Adds Crypto Exchanges to Warning List

UK Watchdog Adds Crypto Exchanges to Warning ListThe UK’s Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has expanded its warning list to include nearly 150 digital asset companies, including crypto exchanges HTX and KuCoin.Photo by Maxim Hopman on UnsplashPromotion without approvalThese firms have been added to the list due to their promotion of services in the UK without obtaining the necessary regulatory approvals. The move comes as the FCA strengthens its oversight of the cryptocurrency sector. The FCA recently broadened its rules on financial promotions, effective from October 8, to encompass crypto-asset service providers, regardless of their geographical location. This means that all crypto platforms are now obligated to display clear risk warnings to UK-based consumers and adhere to more rigorous technical standards. Additionally, they must implement a mandatory 24-hour cooling-off period for new customers.Exchanges respondIn response to the inclusion of their platforms on the FCA’s warning list, both HTX and KuCoin issued statements. A spokesperson for HTX, known until recently as Huobi, clarified that the firm does not operate or market its services in the UK. KuCoin, on the other hand, acknowledged that it doesn’t operate in the UK but expressed its commitment to adapt its products and services to ensure compliance with the relevant laws and regulations in each country.Another exchange, OKX, alongside global exchange Binance, have both indicated that they are working towards complying with the FCA’s regulatory requirements in respect of marketing. The FCA issued a generic warning message for both HTX and KuCoin, stating:“This firm may be promoting financial services or products without our permission. You should avoid dealing with this firm.”Non-compliance with the FCA’s regulations can result in severe penalties, including takedown requests for websites and apps, substantial fines, and potential legal action, which could lead to imprisonment. It’s worth noting that HTX Advisor, Justin Sun, has encountered regulatory challenges in the past. In March, the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) accused Sun of fraud and market manipulation related to TRX, the native cryptocurrency of his Tron blockchain. Despite holding licenses to operate in various jurisdictions, HTX’s website does not specifically mention the UK as a prohibited venue.KuCoin has its platform restricted in several countries, including the US, Singapore, Hong Kong, mainland China, Thailand, Malaysia, and Canada’s Ontario province. Notably, the UK is not listed among these restricted locations. The FCA’s decision to rapidly identify and publicize crypto firms violating the expanded rules underscores increasingly stringent regulatory requirements. The regulator is continuously updating its list of violators as new infractions are uncovered. In August, the UK regulator published data that demonstrated that only 13% of crypto businesses who have applied to trade in the UK have been offered permits to do so.Lucy Castledine, the FCA’s Director of Consumer Investments, emphasized the dynamic nature of the list, which is constantly evolving to keep pace with emerging issues within the crypto sector. As the FCA takes a more proactive stance in overseeing crypto businesses, the warning list serves as a tool for consumer protection, signaling the importance of adherence to regulatory standards in the cryptocurrency ecosystem.

Japanese Firm Exec Underscores User Experience and Collaboration in Web3

Japanese Firm Exec Underscores User Experience and Collaboration in Web3Hiroshi Tsuruoka, the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of UNCHAIN, a Japanese company specializing in Web3 entertainment services, recently underscored the significance of unique experiences and collaboration in the Web3 space. He shared these insights during his conversation with Webmaster Forum, a platform offered by Japanese web content provider Impress Corporation.UNCHAIN, Tsuruoka’s employer, aims to assist companies in entering the Web3 sphere and developing entertainment services that offer users a secure and enjoyable experience. The company provides comprehensive support, including planning, development, and marketing, tailored specifically for the Web3 environment.Photo by Shubham’s Web3 on UnsplashImportance of content qualityDuring the interview, Tsuruoka said that Web3 seems to have lost some of its previous popularity in Japan. Initially, the market experienced rapid growth driven by highly speculative products like NFT artworks and Play to Earn (P2E) games, which attracted participation from many Japanese companies. However, the subsequent downturn of global projects prompted the Japanese blockchain industry to reassess its strategy, recognizing the paramount importance of content quality.Meaningful experiencesAccording to Tsuruoka, the appeal of blockchain games extends beyond their profit potential, deriving more from the unique, enjoyable experiences they offer. He believes that gamers find it meaningful when they play a pivotal role in expanding the gaming market and giving rise to new gaming cultures. Moreover, the incorporation of NFTs in games allows users to retain ownership of their in-game items even if a company discontinues its service, fostering a deeper emotional connection between users and their virtual possessions. This emerging trend fosters a culture of creation, where users, operators, and creators come together in a collaborative space to generate secondary creations and new services. Users delight in actively contributing to this ecosystem and helping it grow.Tsuruoka recognizes that decentralization presents both advantages and challenges. On one hand, it offers individuals greater freedom. However, it also places the full responsibility of data management on the users themselves, in contrast to a centralized environment where the game provider handles data management.Tsuruoka advises against placing excessive emphasis on speculation and financial gain when discussing Web3. Instead, he encourages companies to prioritize delivering meaningful and valuable experiences to users. Tsuruoka believes that emotional experiences, such as owning a distinctive avatar through digital assets, hold tremendous potential in the Web3 realm.Web2 success firstHe asserts that no Web3 project can guarantee success without proving its worth in the Web2 space. Services that proved valuable in Web2 could experience significant growth when combined with Web3 elements.Strong relationshipsTsuruoka highlights the importance of establishing strong relationships between companies and users in the Web3 environment. While platforms like Discord can facilitate these relationships, it is crucial to strategically design user engagement, motivation, and enjoyment before launching a service. Effective community management in the Web3 space requires deep user engagement, which entails ongoing and intensive communication between operators and users.Tsuruoka emphasized the need to heed user feedback. Regardless of the service type, incorporating user opinions and collaborating with them can result in significant community and project growth, with corresponding increases in asset values. He added that this is not limited to the Web3 domain.
