Weracle, the Singapore-based developer behind the popular mobile game Endless Frontier, is gearing up to deploy its latest creation, EF Defense, on the Ethereum scaling network, Immutable zkEVM.

Play-to-earn game

EF Defense, a play-to-earn game with stunning visual aesthetics similar to Endless Frontier, transports players to the Land of Abundance, where they must fend off a dark and menacing force threatening the continent of Akaros. Armed with 70 diverse heroes and an array of customization options, players will embark on an epic quest to protect their territory and claim rewards for their strategic prowess.

Immutable, a prominent Web3 games publisher headquartered in Australia, is partnering with Weracle to facilitate this transition. The move to the Ethereum scaling network brings the potential for even greater in-game experiences, enhanced security, and unique ownership opportunities through non-fungible tokens (NFTs). While EF Defense already offers hero characters as NFTs on the Ethereum scaling network Polygon, the specific utilization of NFTs and tokens on Immutable zkEVM remains undisclosed.

The gaming industry veterans behind MagmaByte have also caught the NFT wave with their upcoming release, Galaxy Commanders. This player-versus-player (PvP) space shooter, developed by former talents from major gaming companies like Electronic Arts (EA), NCSoft, and Nexon, will utilize the Immutable zkEVM network for its launch. Players can expect action-packed space battles and cooperative planetary conquests, utilizing various strategies to claim victory.

Based on Polygon

Immutable zkEVM is based on Polygon’s zkEVM technology, a layer-2 Ethereum scaling network specially designed for gaming. This integration promises faster and more cost-effective transactions compared to the Ethereum mainnet, ensuring a seamless and enjoyable gaming experience. To cater to gamers new to Web3, Immutable is also working on developing the Passport, a user-friendly wallet to facilitate easy interactions with blockchain-based games.

Weracle’s involvement with blockchain gaming through EF Defense is likely to be just a starting point. The studio has ambitious plans to launch more crypto games in the future, cementing its position in the evolving landscape of blockchain-based gaming. Additionally, a digital Weracle Wallet is in the works, intending to create a holistic ecosystem for players and collectors alike.

Andrew Sorokovsky, VP Of Global Business Development at Immutable, expressed enthusiasm for Weracle’s transition into Web3 gaming, acknowledging the team’s expertise in the traditional gaming space and predicting significant strides in the realm of blockchain-based entertainment.

As EF Defense prepares to enter the world of Immutable zkEVM, players can look forward to an enhanced gaming experience with the added benefits of blockchain technology.

The integration of NFTs and the prospect of play-to-earn mechanics has the potential to make a far bigger impact, provided the correct balance is struck between engaging gameplay and the play-to-earn model dynamic.

Yat Siu: Hong Kong’s Crypto Adoption Sanctioned by the Mainland

Yat Siu: Hong Kong’s Crypto Adoption Sanctioned by the MainlandIn a keynote speech at the Ethereum Community Conference (EthCC) in Paris on Wednesday, Yat Siu, Co-Founder of blockchain gaming and NFT firm Animoca Brands, shed light on Hong Kong’s rapid adoption of cryptocurrencies and Web3 technology, emphasizing its connection to developments unfolding in mainland China.Photo by Serey Kim on UnsplashDriven by the Chinese authoritiesSiu argued that the current crypto trend in Hong Kong signifies more than just the actions of the Chinese autonomous area itself, pointing to a larger agenda driven by China’s aspirations.According to Siu, the Chinese government’s release of its Web3 white paper in May, which positioned Web3 as the future of the internet, carries significant weight. Notably, this announcement came only days after Hong Kong revealed plans to allow retail crypto investments. Siu highlighted that even though China’s white paper did not explicitly mention cryptocurrencies, it is key to acknowledging the country’s commitment to advancing Web3 technologies. The news of Hong Kong’s crypto developments resonated throughout China, capturing attention even on China Central Television, the national TV channel. Siu underscored the broader implications of this coverage, suggesting that the developments in Hong Kong bear the imprint of higher authorities. He made it clear that any actions taken by Hong Kong would require the approval of China.Challenging US global hegemonyBeyond Hong Kong, Siu delved into the broader significance of Web3 as a tool to challenge the United States’ technological hegemony. He expressed concerns about the security risks associated with excessive reliance on tech giants such as Google, Apple, and Facebook. Siu argued that countries like Japan, Korea, and China view Web3 as an opportunity to break free from the dominance of US-centric technologies. This motivation is especially pronounced in China, which is actively pursuing de-dollarization.Reducing dependence on the US dollar represents a key factor driving the adoption of Web3 in these countries. Siu pointed out that the global currency’s position affords the United States significant power and influence, making it crucial for China and other nations to seek alternatives. Embracing Web3 technologies serves as a potential avenue for diminishing reliance on the US dollar and challenging the current financial status quo. While mainland China banned nearly all crypto activities in 2021, the country has remained one of the largest crypto-mining hubs worldwide, despite the prohibition. The proactive stance of Hong Kong in implementing crypto-friendly regulations has sparked hope that it could pave the way for China to eventually lift its long-standing ban. However, prominent figures within the Chinese establishment, such as CPIC Investment Management CEO Chenggang Zhou, have recently reiterated the country’s anti-crypto stance. The rapid adoption of cryptocurrencies and Web3 technology in Hong Kong provides a glimpse into broader developments unfolding in mainland China. Web3 is seen as a potent instrument for challenging US technological dominance, although whether that leads to China lifting its crypto ban is something that remains to be seen.

DLN facilitates secure and unlimited liquidity transfers across chains with zero slippage.Rotonda added that it would continue to expand its lineup of swap platforms through collaborations with major industry names like Kana Labs, WOOFi and Unizen.Better user experienceThe company also added new features to help users make optimal investments. Token rankings by category — such as most swapped tokens and most rising tokens — that were previously available on the “Swap” tab have been moved to the “Home” tab and placed in the foreground of the screen. Rotonda also explained that it aims to provide a more customizable experience by adding more detailed chart features. The wallet also now supports the Sui mainnet, bringing the total number of supported mainnets to 12.This development comes shortly after Rotonda recently launched Burrito Wallet in the Latin American region in a move to expand its global user base.
