Web3 & Enterprise·May 04, 2023, 9:30 AM

Alterna, a Japanese real estate-focused security token platform operated by Mitsui & Co. Digital Asset Management (Mitsui & Co. DAM), has garnered over 10,000 pre-registrations ahead of its launch, according to a recent press release.

Benefits for pre-registrants

Pre-registrants for Alterna will be able to enjoy benefits such as preferential treatment in the selection process for projects upon its launch. The pre-registration window will remain open until May 8, 2023.

Real estate of $1.7B

Mitsui & Co. DAM manages real estate properties valued at around 230 billion yen (~$1.7 billion), which will be gradually digitized into security tokens. The company will choose investments that offer greater stability compared to publicly traded stocks, focusing on large-scale real estate properties and infrastructure with consistent cash flows, such as rental income.

More investment opportunities

By utilizing blockchain technology to issue security tokens, Alterna will enable retail investors to invest small sums in stable assets that were previously inaccessible. The platform has digitized its operations and developed an optimized system to reduce management costs. Additionally, it has gone paperless to provide convenience to its users. With a smartphone, users can complete the entire process, from opening an account to making an investment.

Firm’s expansion

Since the enactment of the revised Financial Instruments and Exchange Act in 2020, security tokens have gained traction as an investment vehicle in Japan. Mitsui & Co. DAM has launched four security token offerings, tokens from which are subject to tax benefits. As the firm expands its business, Mitsui & Co. DAM is also seeking talented individuals for various positions, including compliance, asset management, sales, and internships.

Subreddit Token Price Slide Following Surge

Subreddit Token Price Slide Following SurgeReddit’s subreddit community tokens, Moon and Brick, having experienced a remarkable surge in prices last week fueled by a significant increase in trading volume, have taken a downward trajectory, plummeting in price.Photo by Mike Petrucci on UnsplashCrypto.com token listingThe Moon token, associated with Reddit’s r/CryptoCurrency community boasting over 6.5 million members, shot up from approximately $0.09 to nearly $0.58 on July 19, just after Singapore trading platform Crypto.com listed the token.Concurrently, trading volume spiked to around $3 million on Wednesday, marking an impressive boost.Similarly, the Fortnite subreddit community token, Brick, which Crypto.com distributes as a reward to contributors of r/Fortnite, also witnessed a substantial price surge. The token’s value surged from $0.01 on July 17 to approximately $0.10 on July 19, according to data from CoinGecko.Surge acknowledgedIn response to the sudden price surges, Crypto.com released a note early on Monday, acknowledging the surge both tokens had experienced recently. However, in a swift turn of events, both tokens experienced a significant downturn in the past 24 hours, with their prices plummeting by over 20%.As of midday (ET) on Monday, Moon was trading at $0.33, while Brick was valued just under $0.05, as reported by CoinGecko data. Moreover, trading volumes for both tokens have significantly contracted during this period of volatility. Moon’s volume shrank from over $1 million on July 23 to approximately $200,000 on Monday. On the other hand, Brick’s volume saw an even more drastic decrease, falling from approximately $210,000 on July 23 to a mere $26,000 on Monday.Terms of service changeMarket analysts speculate that the recent change in Reddit’s Terms of Service might have been the catalyst for the initial price increases. Reddit’s alteration of its Terms of Service on July 16 to permit users to trade community tokens and avatars potentially triggered the surge in token prices. It appears that Web2 centralized virtual goods such as coins and awards are making way for tradable Web3 community points.Speculating on the token price surge, Bobby Ong, the Co-Founder and COO of Malaysia-headquartered cryptocurrency data aggregator CoinGecko, wrote via Twitter last week: “Both tokens increased at the speculation of the changes coming at Reddit. No one knows exactly what is happening but Reddit deprecating Web2 Coins & Awards while allowing trading of their Web3 CPs could be something to monitor in the coming months.”Despite the recent downturn, the overall crypto space remains highly dynamic and unpredictable. Events such as the listing of tokens on prominent trading platforms can cause rapid price fluctuations. As always, that scenario makes it essential for investors to approach these assets with caution. While Moon and Brick may have encountered a sharp decline, the cryptocurrency market, in general, has proven its resilience and ability to rebound with Bitcoin currently holding a unit price of $29,125. As the market continues to evolve and gain wider acceptance, investors will need to continue to exercise caution and consider the volatility inherent in digital assets.

OKX announces delisting of 26 trading pairs

OKX announces delisting of 26 trading pairsCryptocurrency exchange OKX has made a significant announcement regarding the delisting of more than 20 trading pairs, with a view towards its ongoing maintenance of strict listing criteria and performance monitoring. This decision will impact a considerable number of trading pairs across various cryptocurrencies, with the process scheduled to commence later this week.OKX outlined details of this recent trading pair purge in a statement published to its website on Monday. Among the trading pairs set for removal are CELO-USDC, AXS-USDC, APE-BTC and the HNT-USDT trading pair, which will be delisted on Nov. 10. Notably, Bytom (BTM), a Chinese crypto project, which has experienced a substantial 46% drop in value since Monday, is also among the tokens to be delisted. The exchange is advising users to manage their assets accordingly in preparation for the changes. Withdrawals for these tokens will cease on Jan. 10, 2024. During this transitional period, OKX recommends that users cancel any open orders linked to the impacted trading pairs to avoid automatic cancellations, which could result in processing delays.Photo by Maxim Hopman on UnsplashSAITAMA delistingDeposits for the affected tokens, including HNT, BTM, and SAITAMA, were halted by OKX on Nov. 3. SAITAMA, an Ethereum-centric ERC20 token, is the primary payment medium on the Saitama platform. There were mixed reactions to the delisting of the coin. One community member took to X, stating:“I will say I do think it isn’t cool for OKX to delist #Saitama considering we didn’t get on there for the reasons specified of delisting. The listing was won through hours of Spaces and helping people get VPNs to win a contest. Regardless of what the market is doing we won fairly.”Another Saitama project supporter took a more pragmatic view, stating:“Delisting Is a tragedy? I don’t think so. What did the OKX listing for the token price? What is the difference between holding or selling with or without okx? Volume was too low, and this isn’t a news, so they will delist. They will relist again….#SAITAMA”OKX has embarked upon several initiatives over the course of 2023 in an effort to further the user proposition offered by the platform. From a marketing perspective, the company took the decision in October to retire the Okcoin brand, rebranding its various sub-platforms instead to OKX.The Seychelles-incorporated company indicated in September that it expects to have secured a virtual asset service provider (VASP) license in Hong Kong by June of next year.Delisting banksTokens are not the only items to be delisted by the exchange recently. Alongside competitor Bybit, the company decided to delist sanctioned Russian banks Tinkoff Bank and Sberbank from its peer-to-peer exchange platform. This move by OKX reflects the exchange’s efforts towards maintaining a high level of integrity and performance. Listing coins that fall below a minimum acceptable level of liquidity and trading volume can leave them much more exposed to the risk of manipulation. By adhering to stringent listing criteria and promptly addressing issues, the company is making a greater effort towards maintaining a position as a trusted and secure trading platform for cryptocurrency enthusiasts and investors.
