NFTs as admission tickets

Jointly prepared by Wemade and G-STAR, these NFT tickets are called Real World Event NFTs, functioning as admission tickets and vouchers for special merchandise. One noteworthy feature is that they undergo changes in appearance upon use, a characteristic inherent to dynamic NFTs.

The sale of these NFT tickets begins on NILE’s marketplace at noon (local time) on October 25. Those interested can utilize WEMIX dollars (WEMIX$) via the WEMIX Wallet to purchase a daily NFT ticket for their chosen day of attendance at the event.

Game enthusiasts will also have the chance to witness Wemade’s latest games at BEXCO. The Korean game company mentioned that it has reserved a significant space at the exhibition hall to showcase two of its newest games: the MMORPG “Legend of YMIR” and the sports game “Fantastic4 Baseball.”

WEMIX and Chainalysis partnership

Along with its gaming and NFT endeavors, Wemade has been taking steps to fortify the security of its ecosystems. On the day of the NFT sale kickoff, the WEMIX Foundation, a subsidiary of Wemade, announced its strategic partnership with Chainalysis, a blockchain data analytics company. This collaboration will bolster the security of storage and transactions of assets within Wemade’s omnichain network. The network is being developed through a project known as “unagi,” which stands for the Unbound Networking and Accelerating Growth Initiative.

Established in 2014, Chainalysis has worked with government agencies, cryptocurrency exchanges, financial institutions, insurance companies, and cybersecurity firms in over 70 countries. They offer services to safeguard customers and combat virtual asset-related crimes.

Through this partnership, the WEMIX Foundation seeks to operate a comprehensive risk and compliance program via Chainalysis’ data platform. This will help minimize potential risks associated with illicit activities like money laundering while maintaining a smooth user experience.

The foundation will also engage with Chainalysis’ Crypto Incident Response service, enabling immediate tracking and recovery of assets if hacked or stolen.

Regarding this development, the WEMIX Foundation underlined that its alliance with Chainalysis will enhance the transparency and reliability of both the WEMIX3.0 mainnet and the unagi omnichain ecosystem.

BSN Foundation launches in Singapore with five global members

BSN Foundation launches in Singapore with five global membersThe BSN Foundation, a Singapore-based organization dedicated to building global blockchain infrastructure, on Thursday officially announced its five founding members from different regions and sectors.Photo by Julien de Salaberry on UnsplashBroad representationThe founding members of the BSN Foundation include Blockdaemon, a leading institutional digital asset wallet provider; Zeeve, a Los Angeles-based blockchain infrastructure automation platform; TOKO, a Hong Kong-headquartered digital asset creation platform; GFT Technologies, a German tech firm specializing in financial services and Red Date Technology, a tech firm behind the BSN Spartan Network located in Hong Kong.Representatives from these entities gathered at the Pan Pacific Singapore on Thursday for a launch event. The BSN Foundation will act as the governing body of the BSN Spartan Network, a public infrastructure network based on open-source virtual data centers. The launch of the foundation marks a major milestone in the BSN’s global expansion and its vision to establish a decentralized public layer of the internet. In discussion with Cointelegraph, Tim Bailey, the Vice President of Global Business at Red Date Technology, stated:“The BSN Foundation launch is a vital step in our global expansion, demonstrating the international recognition and support for the BSN Spartan Network’s concept and goals.” He added:“These organizations bring expertise in areas like blockchain-as-a-service, asset tokenization, financial services, and consulting, highlighting the wide applicability and potential of the BSN Spartan Network.”Bailey emphasized that the BSN Spartan Network is designed to change the application and governance of public chain technology. “By focusing on non-cryptocurrency public chains and a decentralized governance model, we’re not just innovating in technology but also in how global collaborations can shape the future of IT infrastructure,” Bailey stated. BSN’s strategy is focused on creating a “more stable and accessible network” for businesses around the world, distancing itself from the volatility related to traditional cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin.Chinese originsThe BSN Spartan Network, launched in September 2022, features a non-tradable token (NTT) issued on its default chain. Each of the network’s data centers is equipped with a single registered NTT wallet for managing and holding these tokens. NTTs can be acquired using fiat currency, selected stablecoins or through various incentive programs. The BSN Spartan Network, which originated in China as the “Blockchain-based Service Network” in early 2020, was developed with the backing of the Chinese government.“BSN was indeed originally initiated in China. However, the BSN Spartan Network, governed by the Singapore-based BSN Foundation, is distinct from the BSN Networks in mainland China,” Bailey stated. He highlighted that the BSN Spartan Network is constructed following global standards, is entirely open source and maintains independent operations from the BSN Networks present in mainland China.UDPN proof of conceptBSN, driven by Red Date Technology as its lead developer, had outlined plans to develop a universal digital payments network (UDPN) as early as 2021. That project continues to progress. Last month, it emerged that SC Ventures, the Singapore-based fintech investment subsidiary of British banking conglomerate Standard Chartered, had partnered with Deutsche Bank in a first proof of concept (POC) of the UDPN. That POC resulted in real-time transfers and swaps of synthetic USDC and EURS stablecoins between the two banks.

Korean won overtakes U.S. dollar in Q1 crypto trading dominance

In the first quarter of this year, South Korea witnessed a significant surge in cryptocurrency trading volume, with transactions worth $456 billion conducted in South Korean won on centralized crypto exchanges, according to data from Kaiko. This surge has propelled the South Korean won to the forefront as the most-used currency for crypto trading, surpassing the U.S. dollar during the same period. Photo by Sesinando on PexelsCrypto over stock marketThe country, amidst this soaring demand for cryptocurrencies, is preparing to implement regulations aimed at safeguarding investors. South Korea's cryptocurrency market, renowned for its activity, briefly outpaced the country's stock market during the recent crypto bull run in March.  The local market is predominantly dominated by five fully licensed exchanges, with Upbit leading the pack, accounting for over 80% of the market share on most days, as highlighted by Kaiko. Other major global exchanges like Crypto.com and Binance are also eyeing entry into the South Korean market, with Crypto.com launching its retail trading platform in the country on April 29 and Binance acquiring a significant stake in Gopax in 2023. Growing regulatory frameworkDespite regulatory efforts to fortify investor protection, including the enactment of the Virtual Asset User Protection Act in July 2023, South Korea continues to work on further regulatory frameworks. The legislation aims to curb illicit activities in the crypto market and mandates safeguards for user funds, including storing over 80% of deposits in cold storage and enrollment in insurance programs to mitigate potential security breaches. Additionally, efforts are underway to standardize crypto token issuance and enhance information disclosure for investors through the development of a second part of the User Protection Act.

Philippines leading charge in Asia amid global bitcoin payment surge

Bitcoin's global merchant acceptance witnessed a substantial surge, growing by 174% throughout 2023, with the Philippines proving itself in leading the way within the Asian region.Photo by rc.xyz NFT gallery on UnsplashRegion facing regulatory restrictionsThat’s according to BTC Map, a provider of bitcoin merchant mapping services. The data, derived from BTC Map's open-source mapping data via OpenStreetMap, revealed that the number of venues accepting bitcoin payments surged from 2,207 at the beginning of the year to 6,126 by the year's end. This diverse array of businesses included restaurants, bars, shops and various services. The expansion of bitcoin vendors is a global phenomenon, with concentrations notably observed in Europe, the United States and Latin America. The Philippines stands out in Asia with hundreds of vendors, while regulatory restrictions in East Asia, especially China, have limited adoption. While it's great to see a high level of direct adoption among Filipino merchants, it's easy to understand why this level of adoption hasn’t been matched within Asia’s largest market. China has had a long-standing ban on cryptocurrency trading, mining or its use as a means of payment. Despite the ban, it appears that crypto trading is still alive and well in China, although beneath the surface. With mining too, while the sector shrank considerably once a ban was imposed, there is believed to be a significant ongoing level of bitcoin mining occurring still within China’s borders. However, when it comes to vendors, this is likely to be an activity that is far too visible to the authorities and with that, China’s 1.4 billion citizens are not getting the opportunity to buy goods and services with the world’s leading cryptocurrency. Compounding matters, the Chinese authorities have been working diligently on a myriad of projects to bring about day-to-day retail use of the country’s central bank digital currency, the digital yuan. Those efforts are not likely to be aligned with an accommodation of or tolerance of bitcoin payments. The increase in merchant listings showcased a slight decline from the peak in September, which reached 6,590 merchants. BTC Map's platform allows businesses and users to tag locations accepting bitcoin payments, with the rise in numbers potentially attributed to increased user contributions to the database. This surge in bitcoin adoption globally occurred against the backdrop of the cryptocurrency's price volatility throughout the year. Despite potential limitations in data collection due to its reliance on volunteer contributions, the overall trend indicates a growing acceptance of bitcoin. Ongoing challenges to adoptionA panel of bitcoin leaders at the Plan B conference in October discussed the challenges and opportunities of global bitcoin adoption. Notably, they highlighted the difficulty of onboarding new users and merchants, particularly in diverse cultural contexts. In El Salvador, where bitcoin is legal tender, obstacles persist in convincing merchants to accept bitcoin payments. Geographically, concentrations of bitcoin-accepting vendors were more prevalent in Central and South America, while Africa and Asia demonstrated fewer such establishments. The United States and Europe led in the global count of crypto-friendly merchants. The panel stressed the importance of education in overcoming these challenges, emphasizing the need for user-friendly applications to facilitate mainstream adoption, moving away from complex technologies. As bitcoin continues its global expansion, the industry recognizes the vital role education and user-friendly solutions play in fostering broader acceptance.
