Zodia Custody to Commence Yield Offering on Stablecoins

Zodia Custody to Commence Yield Offering on StablecoinsIn a play that’s designed to entice institutional investors, Zodia Custody, a portfolio company of Japanese financial services conglomerate SBI, is gearing up to offer a yield on digital assets.Photo by CoinWire Japan on UnsplashIntroducing “Zodia Custody Yield”The crypto startup has introduced “Zodia Custody Yield,” a crypto staking option designed to reward holders of crypto assets stored within its platform. The initiative has been launched in partnership with Singapore-based DeFi platform OpenEden. It promises returns on stablecoins although full details on the offering remain undisclosed.Jeremy Ng, Co-Founder of OpenEden, expressed his belief in the potential of cryptocurrencies to generate substantial passive income for their holders. Ng stated:“There are billions of dollars worth of stablecoins sitting on the sidelines when they could easily be generating yields for investors.”TradFi embracing digital assetsZodia’s move aligns with a growing trend in the financial industry. Yesterday, a leading US bank, Citi, disclosed its collaboration with Maersk to facilitate services that convert funds into digital assets. The primary goal is to enable the bank’s customers to execute nearly instantaneous payments, unrestricted by traditional business hours.Simultaneously, several prominent asset management firms are awaiting a pivotal decision from the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) regarding their applications to launch a spot Bitcoin exchange-traded fund (ETF). This list includes major players such as BlackRock, Invesco, WisdomTree, ARK Invest, Valkyrie, and Franklin Templeton. BlackRock, the frontrunner in the efforts being expended towards ETF approval, submitted its application for a spot Bitcoin ETF on June 16.In a recent interview, Bloomberg analyst Eric Balchunas said that he expects $150 billion in capital to flow into the Bitcoin market within two years of a spot Bitcoin ETF approval in the US.The financial strategies of these entities now prominently feature blockchain and crypto-based products, once considered niche but now integral to their operations. Nonetheless, even with widespread anticipation of the approval of BlackRock’s ETF, the firm faces substantial obstacles. US regulators have subjected BlackRock to intense scrutiny due to concerns regarding its ties to China. Additionally, political figures have criticized the asset manager for prioritizing environmental, social, and governance (ESG) criteria over investor returns.Zodia was spun out of British multinational banking firm Standard Chartered. The bank has a positive outlook relative to crypto. In a bold prediction made in June, the UK-based bank forecasted that the value of Bitcoin could potentially surge to $50,000 by the end of the year, with an even more optimistic projection of $120,000 for 2024.In 2021 Standard Chartered, in collaboration with Northern Trust, a leading asset servicing firm, founded Zodia Custody. Since its inception, the venture has garnered a respectable level of success. It successfully secured $36 million in investments and solidified a partnership with SBI Digital Asset Holdings, enabling its expansion into the Japanese market. In May, the firm launched its crypto custodian service in Dubai, having signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Dubai International Financial Center (DIFC). In June, Zodia partnered with blockchain infrastructure provider Blockdaemon, in an effort to further its crypto staking offering. Earlier this month, the company announced its arrival in Singapore, with a view towards expanding its digital asset custody service there.

Artifact Labs Raises $3.25M

Artifact Labs Raises $3.25MArtifact Labs, a Hong Kong-based start-up company that concerns itself with Web3 and metaverse products from leading brands, has raised $3.25 million in a recent funding round.Photo by Pixabay on PexelsThe NFT-focused company, which was spun out of Hong Kong’s South China Morning Post (SCMP) in 2022, has received funding from Blue Pool Capital and Animoca Ventures, with Blue Pool leading the funding round. Blue Pool Capital is the investment vehicle of Alibaba founders Jack Ma and Joe Tsai. The company was borne out of a decision taken by the SCMP in 2021 to launch an NFT standard called artifact, which was geared toward recording historical data. Its starting point in that endeavor was the sale of NFTs of its very own historical front pages. That included iconic historical snapshots such as the return of Hong Kong to the Chinese in 1997, the outbreak of avian flu, the onset of the Asian financial crisis and the death of the UK's Princess Diana in 1997.Expansion of operationsArtifact Labs has said that it intends to use the funding to expand company operations. Executing on that, the firm intends to fill multiple developer positions.Phillip Pon, CEO of Artifact Labs commented on the development via a press release:“It’s not about creating new IPs for speculation — for example NFT hype projects — it’s about driving new engagement with historically significant collections by using Web3. We want to carve new space in the younger public’s consciousness for historical brands and artifacts, while supporting these important organizations with new revenue streams to fund their preservation work, we are also solidifying immutable on-chain data preservation through NFTs.”It appears that the firm will release NFT collections on behalf of preservation organizations, while at the same time developing technology to assist institutions in preserving their archives on the blockchain.NFTs with inherent valueLast year, Artifact Labs Founder and former CEO of the SCMP, Gary Liu, said in an interview that NFTs need to contain a certain inherent value beyond just being endorsed by a number of people. Liu stated: “There has to be intrinsic value in the asset itself or the underlying asset that it represents. That’s what is going to drive NFT innovation.”That philosophy is borne out by one of Artifact’s recent collaborations. In February, the firm partnered with RMS Titanic, Inc, a company that’s dedicated to preserving the legacy of the infamous sunken ship. Central to the partnership was an intention to mint NFTs based upon over 5,500 artifacts that have been recovered from the sunken wreckage. In January Artifact Labs partnered with Dubai-based data intelligence and marketing technology firm, MEmob+. The objective of the firms in teaming up is to have the complete range of expertise necessary between them in order to offer brands and companies a strategic advisory service when it comes to delving into the metaverse. Artifact’s art platform Materia, will be harnessed by MEmob+ to assist brands who want to develop art projects in the metaverse.

NPIXEL Wraps Up 2nd Community Test for Web3 Game “Gran Saga: Unlimited”

NPIXEL Wraps Up 2nd Community Test for Web3 Game “Gran Saga: Unlimited”Korean game developer NPIXEL announced on Tuesday the successful completion of the second community test for its Web3-based PC massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) called “Gran Saga: Unlimited.”The test — conducted over the course of two weeks with some 8,000 global participants — was aimed at enhancing the gameplay environment and strengthening community-based content ahead of the official release of the game.Photo by Andrey Metelev on UnsplashExploring game features and player-based developmentAccording to local news outlet ETnews, participants had the opportunity to try out various features within the game, including new dungeons, a 16-player raid, and a player-versus-player (PvP) battleground called “Chaos Field.” In particular, the “Idol & Fan” system garnered significant attention, where 100 global influencers who received soulbound tokens participated as “idols” to create diverse content with their “fandoms.”NPIXEL’s development team was actively engaged in the testing process, collaborating with users to strategize dungeon conquests and partake in community activities. They implemented real-time communication with users, gathering feedback and opinions to build a game that players directly contributed to.“Proof-of-Play”: The expansion of blockchain in gamingOne of the key features of Gran Saga: Unlimited is its Proof-of-Play technology, NPIXEL explained, much like the Proof-of-Work process used in cryptocurrency. Proof-of-Play involves recording all the in-game items and commodities that a player receives on a blockchain, thus proving and disclosing the items’ randomness of acquisition. The difficulty of obtaining certain items is determined based on in-game demand, and users can search and verify real-time information such as time of acquisition, ownership identification, and random probability.Upcoming launch and exclusive rewardsThe developer is also offering rewards to all 8,000 testers, including a Mount NFT when the game is launched and a chance to win a whitelist spot raffle of Catcha NFT with 1,000 open spots to all testers.NPIXEL will thoroughly review user feedback and opinions collected during the test to further improve the game, after which they plan to officially launch the game through the web-based premier gaming ecosystem, METAPIXEL.METAPIXEL will be developed on the Layer 1 blockchain network Aptos, which is based on NPIXEL’s partnership with Aptos established back in November of last year.
