This partnership will enable LINE NEXT to feature various digital products on its “DOSI,” a global digital commerce platform where users can freely create and trade digital items including NFTs.

In cooperation with ReadON in the marketing and business sectors, LINE NEXT plans to offer a number of innovative products to over one million users of ReadOn.

Various digital collaborative merchandise

On Feb. 21, the two companies are scheduled to roll out digital collaborative merchandise inspired by “Catto,” the brand character of ReadOn, with a plan to introduce DOSI x ReadON pass tickets that benefit users of both platforms. Limited edition items offering exclusive perks and tokens that can be used on ReadOn will also soon be available for purchase.

ReadOn’s previous digital items have proven to be popular: items introduced in January were sold out within just 10 seconds after they were released, with other items also selling out within 30 minutes over four consecutive days. LINE NEXT is committed to collaborating with ReadON to launch more services that can reach a broader audience.

Initiative to make Web3 more accessible to the public

In a related development, LINE NEXT launched the official web and mobile versions of DOSI in January. Under the initiative to make Web3 more accessible to the public, LINE NEXT strives to expand the range of products available on DOSI.

OKX adds token support for atomicals, runes, doginals and stamps

Leading crypto exchange platform OKX has recently unveiled its plans to enhance its marketplace by incorporating Atomicals (ARC-20), Runes, Stamps (SRC-20) and Dogecoin’s Doginals (DRC-20) into its Web3 wallet. ‘First-to-market’ initiativeTaking to social media on Monday, the firm provided further details regarding the additions, outlining that it is part of a "first-to-market" initiative, solidifying OKX's commitment to the expanding realm of Bitcoin NFTs. The integration of these token standards is aimed at positioning OKX as a leading one-stop NFT ecosystem within Web3. Starting with the integration of Stamps on Feb. 5, OKX Wallet users will gain the ability to view and transfer Bitcoin token standards. Subsequently, in late February, OKX Wallet will extend its support to Atomicals, Doginals and Runes, enabling millions of users to engage in buying and selling these NFTs without incurring any trading fees. OKX Marketplace will also follow suit, integrating DRC-20, ARC-20 and Runes standards in late February, thus broadening the scope for users to participate in zero-fee trading.Photo by Shubham's Web3 on UnsplashDriving mainstream adoption of Web3Jason Lau, chief innovation officer at OKX, underscored the platform's dedication to driving mainstream adoption of Web3 technologies, making the exploration and realization of NFT potential more accessible for users. Despite concerns about potential blockchain congestion due to NFTs, Lau characterized these challenges as "growing pains," expressing confidence that they will be addressed over time. Lau told CoinDesk that “these things will last forever, as long as the chain lasts.” Emphasizing the surge in activity and user growth since the launch of their product, Lau positioned OKX as an evolving platform at the forefront of developing tools for users to access all of Web3. OKX Wallet's inscriptions tool presently supports minting on 23 networks, including Bitcoin, Dogecoin, Ethereum, Polygon, BNB Chain, Avalanche-C and Arbitrum One, among others. Boosting OKX MarketplaceThe move aims to establish OKX Marketplace as the largest NFT marketplace in the industry, boasting zero-fee trading across an expanding range of token standards. The platform's advanced NFT offering includes features such as hex error checking, liquidity across multiple standards, bulk minting capabilities and automatic error detection. Despite OKX's open embrace of Ordinals and other Bitcoin protocols, some members of the Bitcoin ecosystem express discontent, labeling Ordinals as digital spam. Jason Lau vehemently disagrees, asserting that in open and permissionless networks like Bitcoin, "there is no such thing as spam." He contends that as long as fees are paid and transactions adhere to consensus rules, they are valid. Lau emphasizes OKX's historical support for the Bitcoin ecosystem, including upgrades like SegWit, Taproot and Lightning. As debates surrounding the role of Ordinals and NFTs within the Bitcoin ecosystem persist, OKX's proactive stance signals a belief in the potential of Bitcoin-based NFTs to introduce innovative use cases and design possibilities. The disruptions experienced by various blockchains in December, attributed to increased transaction activity related to inscriptions, underscore the growing impact of these developments within the Bitcoin ecosystem and the broader crypto landscape.

Animoca Brands ventures into Bitcoin ecosystem

Hong Kong-based game software company Animoca Brands has announced its foray into the Bitcoin industry by endorsing the Opal Foundation, a novel Bitcoin ecosystem protocol. The move involves the Opal Protocol and BLIF token, initiated by Animoca Brands and Darewise, a metaverse technology platform. On April 30, Animoca Brands disclosed its plans to become the "largest Web3 ecosystem" for gaming, education and culture built on Bitcoin. The company aims to establish the Opal Protocol and BLIF token as key components of this ecosystem.Photo by Kanchanara on UnsplashBLIF token and Opal ProtocolThe BLIF token, also known as the Opal Protocol Runes token, is hailed by Animoca as a means to enable a "true digital life" on Bitcoin. According to Animoca's executive chairman and co-founder Yat Siu, Bitcoin is now primed for Web3, transitioning from a mere store of value to a store of culture for the Web3 age. Six of Animoca Brands' portfolio companies have already joined as Genesis members, signaling a strong start for the Opal Protocol. Additionally, all future Bitcoin-based projects from Animoca Brands will collaborate with the Opal Foundation. Launched in 2024, the Opal protocol positions itself as a decentralized ecosystem protocol on Bitcoin, powered by BLIF. Its litepaper describes it as a seamless blend of virtual and real-life experiences, offering digital extensions of reality across various domains such as banking, entertainment, education and social interactions. The launch date of the Opal protocol and BLIF airdrop is yet to be announced, but Opal's Telegram group has hinted at its impending arrival. Despite not being operational, Opal's X profile already boasts over 270,000 subscribers. Strategic partnershipAnimoca Brands is hailed as the first strategic launch partner for the Opal Foundation. The company's collaboration aims to integrate its vision into the open Opal protocol on Bitcoin and ordinals. Animoca's venture into Bitcoin coincides with the recent trading debut of spot Bitcoin and Ether exchange-traded funds (ETF) in Hong Kong. However, the initial trading volumes of these ETFs were relatively modest compared to spot Bitcoin ETFs launched in the United States in January 2024.

VCs Say US Crypto Crackdown Opportunity for Asia

VCs Say US Crypto Crackdown Opportunity for AsiaA couple of Hong Kong-based venture capitalists told Bloomberg TV in an interview that aired on Tuesday that the current crypto crackdown in the United States is a boon for Asia and particularly for Hong Kong in establishing itself as a global crypto hub.© Pexels/lalesh aldarwishMartin Baumann, Managing Partner and Co-Founder of CMCC Global, one of Asia’s first VC funds focused purely on blockchain and crypto, said that “Hong Kong has always been a financial capital of Asia and we believe in this location.”Golden opportunityWhile the fund has a global mandate, it believes that investor focus is shifting away from North America towards Asia. Baumann’s colleague, CMCC Global Managing Partner and Co-Founder Charlie Morris said that “the US has been quite negative from the regulatory perspective and it really seems to us that the US is shooting itself in the foot with a machine gun.”Morris elaborated, stating that the US crypto crackdown is handing a golden opportunity to other world regions to lead on blockchain and crypto. Baumann chimed in to clarify that one third of all blockchain equity deals are currently being done in Asia. He maintains that most of the investment community in the West doesn’t appreciate the extent to which capital is being committed into the space by Asian entities.Morris expanded further: “We see places like Hong Kong having a real opportunity at this point in time to bring those firms and entrepreneurs to the city.”Launching $100M blockchain fundAgainst that backdrop CMCC Global is launching a $100 million fund, where funding will be allocated to blockchain projects. Specifically the duo are targeting crypto and blockchain firms at Series A and Series B funding stages. Baumann believes that in tandem with the fact that there’s a lot of innovation emerging in Asia, “there’s plenty of capital sitting on the sidelines waiting for the right entry valuations to pull the trigger.”While Baumann and Morris are majority stakeholders in CMCC Global, the Winklevoss twins (Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss) also have an equity stake in the business. Founders of the Gemini crypto exchange platform, they are investors alongside Hong Kong based Richard Li, who has a net worth estimated to be in the region of $4.6 billion.VC investment into crypto slowed down considerably since the onset of the most recent crypto winter. However, that activity has still been ongoing, something that is entirely different to the 2018 bear market when investment came to a complete standstill. In April, CMCC partnered with Switzerland-based Syz Group with the objective of establishing a funding vehicle with a minimum $50 million fund earmarked for crypto-centric hedge fund investment.Meanwhile, in speculating on the prospects of bitcoin, the CMCC duo expressed the view that double digit gains are well within reach. Morris envisages a Bitcoin unit price of $40,000 in 2023. From a long term perspective the CMCC co-founder suggested that “I can easily see us breaking all time highs and easily breaking $100,000 for bitcoin.”
