Remixpoint, a publicly listed Japanese company that develops and sells energy management systems, is adding 500 million yen, around $3.2 million, in Bitcoin to its corporate treasury.

Bitcoin buying motivations

The firm outlined details of the planned purchase in a statement published on Nov. 25, following a meeting of the firm’s board of directors. Remixpoint justified its decision to purchase Bitcoin in light of widespread uptake by institutional investors of spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) which were launched in the United States in January.

It suggested that there had been an uptick in holdings of the leading digital asset by corporations. Remixpoint cited the increase in the Bitcoin unit price since the Bitcoin halving event earlier this year, together with a positive outlook for the asset following a presidential election victory by Donald Trump in the U.S., as motives for the company to come to the decision to purchase Bitcoin.

However, this is not its first crypto purchase. The company first started to buy Bitcoin, as well as five other cryptocurrencies, in September, suggesting at the time that digital assets provided the company with a mechanism to diversify its holdings at a time when the value and buying power of the Japanese yen had been weakening.

Including its latest announcement, Remixpoint has worked up total crypto investments to the value of 3.5 billion yen. According to Japanese crypto media publication Coinpost, on Nov. 20 the company held 215.76 Bitcoin (BTC), 9,674 Solana (SOL) and 228 Ether (ETH), with the remainder of its crypto portfolio consisting of Avalanche (AVAX), Dogecoin (DOGE) and Ripple (XRP).

Unrealized gains

The company is understood to be sitting on unrealized gains of approximately 810 million yen, given that Bitcoin has appreciated in value by around 68% since the beginning of September, with all other cryptocurrencies within Remixpoint’s portfolio having experienced unit price increases during that period also.

In its latest statement, the company advised that while gains and losses related to its crypto portfolio had not been included within its latest consolidated earnings forecast, it will disclose any significant crypto gain or loss in the future if its deemed to have had a significant impact upon consolidated results.

Bitcoin corporate treasury adoption

The Japanese energy management firm has taken its place in a growing list of corporations that have put Bitcoin on their balance sheets in recent weeks. Earlier this week, it emerged that North American video streaming and cloud platform Rumble had made plans to allocate $20 million in excess cash reserves to the acquisition of Bitcoin.

The following day, Jiva Technologies, a Canadian Securities Exchange (CSX)-listed online wellness community builder, approved a $1 million Bitcoin purchase for its treasury.

Last week U.S. e-commerce platform LQR House approved the purchase of $1 million in Bitcoin as part of its treasury management strategy. Furthermore, the company committed to retaining up to $10 million in Bitcoin from crypto payments received via its CWSpirits.com platform. In the same week, AI-powered education company Genius Group established a Bitcoin treasury, acquiring 110 Bitcoin.

In the same week, Cosmos Health, a Nasdaq-listed pharmaceutical company, announced that it was adding Bitcoin and Ethereum to its balance sheet as hedges against inflation and as a diversification mechanism.

Gyeonggi Officials with Cryptocurrencies Clear of Professional Conflicts in Virtual Assets

Gyeonggi Officials with Cryptocurrencies Clear of Professional Conflicts in Virtual AssetsGyeonggi Province, South Korea’s most populated province surrounding the national capital of Seoul, announced on October 26 (local time) that the duties of all crypto-holding officials ranked 4 or higher in the provincial government are not associated with virtual assets. In Korea, public officials are ranked from nine to one, with one being the highest position. In anticipation of the amended Public Service Ethics Act coming into effect on December 14, the Gyeonggi provincial government introduced a revised employee code of conduct in August. This required officials of rank 4 or higher to report their crypto holdings within 10 days starting from August 21.Photo by Nattu Adnan on UnsplashReported crypto ownershipThe result indicated that out of 228 officials, 23 reported owning virtual assets. Among these, 15 officials held cryptocurrencies valued at less than KRW 1 million ($738), while the remaining 8 had holdings exceeding that amount. To determine any potential involvement with cryptocurrencies in their official duties, the Gyeonggi government examined the roles and responsibilities of these officials within their respective departments. Following this review, the matter was forwarded to the Gyeonggi Public Service Ethics Committee for further scrutiny.Ethics committee reviewOn October 20, the committee convened to assess the relationship between the officials’ duties and their crypto holdings. They unanimously concluded that none of the 23 officials had any ties to crypto in their official roles. The newly revised code of conduct elaborates on the conditions under which a public official’s responsibilities are associated with virtual assets. Specifically, an official’s duties are considered linked to virtual assets if they are involved in formulating or implementing crypto-related policies or laws; conducting related investigations, inquiries, or inspections; engaging in the registration and oversight of cryptocurrency exchanges; or if they are involved in supporting or overseeing the development of crypto technologies. In light of these definitions, officials who engage in any of the above roles are strictly prohibited from capitalizing on any crypto-related information they encounter during their professional duties for personal trading or investment. Furthermore, officials who either currently shoulder or have previously carried out such responsibilities are required to disclose any crypto holdings they acquire. In the future, once the revised Ethics Act is implemented, the Gyeonggi government will remain fully committed to preventing conflicts of interest among public officials. To bolster these efforts, Gyeonggi will introduce additional measures, including a thorough verification process for the accuracy of their cryptocurrency holdings reports. In situations where a public official with cryptocurrency holdings is assigned a position related to virtual assets, Gyeonggi will issue individualized instructions. These directives may entail either the liquidation of their cryptocurrency holdings or their removal from the specific role in question.Meanwhile, Gyeonggi will enhance its endeavors to furnish educational resources pertaining to virtual asset reporting. Moreover, the local government will restrict officials from holding virtual assets if they fall under financial disclosure obligations and are deemed to possess information about or exert influence on virtual assets.

Japan surges to the front of Asia’s crypto pack as policy tailwinds mount

Japan’s cryptocurrency market has surged to become the fastest-growing in the Asia-Pacific region, driven by a government overhaul of its digital asset policies. On-chain transaction value jumped 120% in the year ending June 2025, according to a new report from Chainalysis. The expansion signals renewed activity in a market long characterized by its cautious approach. The Japanese government is increasingly open to crypto as a mainstream investment class through a series of reforms, including proposed friendlier tax laws and the licensing of regulated stablecoins, aiming to attract investment and foster a domestic Web3 industry.Photo by Daniel Hehn on UnsplashOverhauling a strict tax codeA central pillar of the reform is a proposed change to Japan’s tax code, which currently subjects crypto gains to rates of up to 55%, compared with a flat 20% on stock profits. The ruling Liberal Democratic Party is backing proposals to introduce the same 20% rate for crypto starting in fiscal 2026, along with rules that would allow investors to carry forward losses for up to three years. The measures, which require parliamentary approval, are intended to align digital assets more closely with traditional financial instruments. Uncertainty has emerged, however, with Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba’s decision to resign. Ishiba has been supportive of the crypto industry, and the LDP’s leadership election on Oct. 4 could reshape the policy outlook. Sanae Takaichi is seen favoring tighter oversight, Shinjiro Koizumi more receptive to digital assets, and Finance Minister Katsunobu Kato stressing a balance between investor protection and innovation. Paving the way for a stablecoin eraThis political transition coincides with a shift in the Japanese market, which remains heavily concentrated in just a few assets. Over the past year, yen-denominated trading was dominated by XRP with $21.7 billion in volume, outpacing Bitcoin ($9.6 billion) and Ethereum ($4.0 billion). While political developments add unpredictability to the outlook, successful regulatory reforms could set the stage for positive change. One potential catalyst is the government’s recent licensing of the first issuer of a yen-backed stablecoin. Stablecoin issuer JPYC received Japan’s first funds transfer service provider license in August, with its launch anticipated in October. Broader access to stablecoins, digital tokens pegged to fiat currencies like the U.S. dollar or yen, is expected to provide Japanese traders and institutions with a more familiar tool for settlement. Major financial players are also moving in this direction. SBI Group, a leading financial conglomerate, recently deepened its partnership with Ripple to distribute RLUSD, an enterprise-grade U.S. dollar-backed stablecoin, in Japan. SBI plans to make the regulated stablecoin available by March 31, 2026. Corporate Japan bets on blockchainAt the same time, SBI Group also recently partnered with infrastructure provider Startale Group to build a blockchain-based trading platform for tokenized real-world (RWA) assets like stocks. The venture is a bet on the burgeoning tokenization market, which Ripple and Boston Consulting Group (BCG) project could reach nearly $19 trillion by 2033. Alongside moves by major financial groups, Japan is also nurturing its homegrown Web3 talent through the J-StarX Program, coordinated by JETRO Dubai and sponsored by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry. This year, more than half a dozen Japanese startups, together raising over $17 million, were selected for the initiative, spanning blockchain infrastructure, AI-driven platforms, and advanced fintech solutions.  Since August, the cohort has been preparing for international exposure, with showcases scheduled at GITEX GLOBAL 2025 in Dubai and a visit to Abu Dhabi’s Hub71 in October. The initiative reflects Japan’s strategy of expanding overseas networks for its startups while positioning them to access the UAE’s growing Web3 and fintech markets.
