OKX announces delisting of 26 trading pairs

Web3 & Enterprise·November 08, 2023, 1:25 AM

Cryptocurrency exchange OKX has made a significant announcement regarding the delisting of more than 20 trading pairs, with a view towards its ongoing maintenance of strict listing criteria and performance monitoring. This decision will impact a considerable number of trading pairs across various cryptocurrencies, with the process scheduled to commence later this week.

OKX outlined details of this recent trading pair purge in a statement published to its website on Monday. Among the trading pairs set for removal are CELO-USDC, AXS-USDC, APE-BTC and the HNT-USDT trading pair, which will be delisted on Nov. 10. Notably, Bytom (BTM), a Chinese crypto project, which has experienced a substantial 46% drop in value since Monday, is also among the tokens to be delisted.

The exchange is advising users to manage their assets accordingly in preparation for the changes. Withdrawals for these tokens will cease on Jan. 10, 2024. During this transitional period, OKX recommends that users cancel any open orders linked to the impacted trading pairs to avoid automatic cancellations, which could result in processing delays.

SAITAMA delisting

Deposits for the affected tokens, including HNT, BTM, and SAITAMA, were halted by OKX on Nov. 3. SAITAMA, an Ethereum-centric ERC20 token, is the primary payment medium on the Saitama platform. There were mixed reactions to the delisting of the coin. One community member took to X, stating:

“I will say I do think it isn’t cool for OKX to delist #Saitama considering we didn’t get on there for the reasons specified of delisting. The listing was won through hours of Spaces and helping people get VPNs to win a contest. Regardless of what the market is doing we won fairly.”

Another Saitama project supporter took a more pragmatic view, stating:

“Delisting Is a tragedy? I don’t think so. What did the OKX listing for the token price? What is the difference between holding or selling with or without okx? Volume was too low, and this isn’t a news, so they will delist. They will relist again….#SAITAMA”

OKX has embarked upon several initiatives over the course of 2023 in an effort to further the user proposition offered by the platform. From a marketing perspective, the company took the decision in October to retire the Okcoin brand, rebranding its various sub-platforms instead to OKX.

The Seychelles-incorporated company indicated in September that it expects to have secured a virtual asset service provider (VASP) license in Hong Kong by June of next year.

Delisting banks

Tokens are not the only items to be delisted by the exchange recently. Alongside competitor Bybit, the company decided to delist sanctioned Russian banks Tinkoff Bank and Sberbank from its peer-to-peer exchange platform.

This move by OKX reflects the exchange’s efforts towards maintaining a high level of integrity and performance. Listing coins that fall below a minimum acceptable level of liquidity and trading volume can leave them much more exposed to the risk of manipulation. By adhering to stringent listing criteria and promptly addressing issues, the company is making a greater effort towards maintaining a position as a trusted and secure trading platform for cryptocurrency enthusiasts and investors.

Bitgamo Set to Launch 150 Crypto ATMs in Asia

Bitgamo Set to Launch 150 Crypto ATMs in AsiaIn a press release published on Monday, Luxembourg-registered crypto startup Bitgamo outlined its intention to roll out crypto ATMs across Asia.Photo by Monstera Production on PexelsAsian network rolloutDescribing itself as a no KYC (Know Your Customer) exchange for crypto-to-fiat transactions, the firm has the intention of embarking on a crypto expansion initiative that will see it deploy 150 crypto ATMs across key Asian markets. The press release quotes “official sources” as having confirmed that these crypto ATMs will be operational across the region by February 2024. The firm intends to locate the machines within markets such as Australia, Japan, Hong Kong, and Indonesia.European expansionIn alignment with its growth strategy, Bitgamo has also unveiled plans to introduce an additional 75 cryptocurrency ATMs across Europe over the course of 2024.Founded in 2020, Bitgamo claims that its objective is to address privacy concerns while promoting the adoption of cryptocurrencies in regions where acquiring and holding digital assets can be challenging.Gabriel Weber, the company’s Director of Communications, expressed his excitement about the expansion initiative. He stated:“We are thrilled to be able to offer this innovative service in Australia, Japan, Hong Kong, and Indonesia. The addition of our ATMs will make it super easy for users to sell crypto, and we are confident that they will be valuable resources for the thriving crypto communities in these countries.”No KYCThe crypto exchange and ATM business claims to offer a no KYC exchange policy, which sets it apart in an increasingly regulated landscape. As a Luxembourg-registered entity, Bitgamo classifies cryptocurrencies as commodities, adhering it says, to the legal framework of its home country. While the convenience of a no KYC approach is evident, it appears to be going against the current trend and recent regulatory pressures. Earlier this year Seychelles-based cryptocurrency exchange KuCoin implemented mandatory KYC. Bitget, another Seychelles-based exchange, followed suit earlier this month, while another Asia-centric exchange, OKX, has tightened its KYC policy.Online concernBitgamo isn’t well known and with that, this recent announcement has sparked some in the crypto community to express doubt. One individual on crypto-Twitter wrote: “This is a scam…don’t fall for it!” . . . “Raising awareness as their paid press releases are currently doing the rounds, trying to lure in victims.”Meanwhile, a YouTuber called “Negocios TV” urged caution relative to what it described as a possible scam. It’s certainly true to say that there’s very little information in the public sphere relative to Bitgamo and with that, market participants will need to do their own due diligence. Equally, we are not aware if these concerns are real or misplaced. If the offering is in fact legitimate, then it’s a very positive development. Crypto ATMs have often acted as the first touch-point for many individuals in accessing digital currency. Recent years have seen a considerable increase in the global network of crypto ATMs, offering those who want to onboard into the crypto sphere easy access to doing so and possibly purchasing their first digital currency.

Seoul Labs to build layer 2 blockchain mainnet using SASEUL

Seoul Labs to build layer 2 blockchain mainnet using SASEULSouth Korean blockchain solutions provider Seoul Labs announced Thursday (local time) that it will build a layer 2 mainnet utilizing the third-generation blockchain engine SASEUL. This comes in an effort to strengthen the scalability of the SASEUL network and improve capabilities for large-scale traffic processing. Layer 2 refers to a set of off-chain solutions built on top of a layer 1 network to reduce bottlenecks with scaling and data.Photo by Shubham Dhage on UnsplashScalability and stabilitySeoul Labs plans to actively utilize the mainnet’s core functions, such as its HAP-2 hypothesis acceptance verification algorithm and dual chain mechanism as well as its ability to solve storage space problems. In particular, the HAP-2 hypothesis acceptance verification algorithm is a more efficient method for generating blocks than the proof of Work (PoW) algorithm that is widely used in blockchain mainnets, significantly improving scalability.According to the company, the layer 2 mainnet will implement an approach to becoming a node on the network without a graphics processing unit (GPU).“By building the layer 2 mainnet, we will be able to build the SASEUL blockchain network into a stable and scalable platform,” said Dohee Jang, CEO of Seoul Labs.Multifaceted solutionThe project is also poised to become a solution to the excessive computing resources and electrical energy required to run blockchain networks that lead to environmental repercussions. In addition, the company is facilitating research and development for the implementation of central bank digital currencies (CBDCs) into the global economy. Notably, the South Korean government is also planning to launch a CBDC pilot project by 2024.“Recently, central banks around the world have been promoting the integration of CBDCs, but they are facing various problems in terms of scalability and speed,” said an unnamed employee at ArtiFriends, the company behind the SASEUL mainnet. “Layer 2 mainnet is a stable and scalable platform suitable for CBDCs.”
