WEMIX Championship 2023

The WEMIX Championship 2023, touted as the world’s first blockchain-assisted golf tournament, will take place from November 18 to 19 at Haeundae Beach Golf and Resort in Busan. The sports event will see participation from 24 players who are members of the Korea Ladies Professional Golf Association (KLPGA), including the top 20 athletes with the most WEMIX points, as they vie for victory in the season-ending competition.

Ticket NFTs for perks

The competition is leveraging blockchain technology across all its operations. Specifically, NILE is introducing Real World Event NFTs, which consist of two main types: “ticket NFTs,” which serve as admission tickets and vouchers, and “prize NFTs,” which are awarded to the competition’s winners.

Ticket NFTs are dynamic NFTs that provide a range of benefits depending on the selected tier. These benefits encompass souvenirs, food vouchers, and access to VIP-reserved facilities. There are two tiers to choose from: GROUND and NILE Suite. Golf enthusiasts can purchase these NFTs using WEMIX dollars (WEMIX$) through either the WEMIX Wallet or the una Wallet.

In addition, ticket NFT holders can verify their NFTs on the decentralized communication platform, PAPYRUS, to join a special channel dedicated to the WEMIX Championship 2023, where spectators can stay informed about the latest competition news and engage in real-time interactions with one another.

Looking ahead, Wemade plans to introduce additional sports events that utilize blockchain technology, aiming to provide fresh and engaging experiences while fostering a culture where both athletes and fans can fully enjoy sports competitions.

Haru Invest executives arrested for $750M crypto embezzlement

The joint virtual asset crime investigation unit of the Seoul Southern District Prosecutors' Office announced the arrest of three executives from South Korean cryptocurrency yield platform Haru Invest, according to a report by local news agency Yonhap. They are accused of embezzling cryptocurrencies valued at over 1 trillion Korean won ($750 million).Photo by niu niu on UnsplashFraud lawsuitThis development comes after approximately 100 investors filed a fraud lawsuit in June against the executives of Haru and Delio, another Korean crypto lending firm.  The three leading executives of Haru, one aged 44 and the other two aged 40, are facing fraud charges for failing to return cryptocurrencies deposited by around 16,000 customers.Misleading promotionsInvestigations uncovered that Haru Invest was offering misleading promotions for its products. Despite assurances that it utilized a risk-free, diversified investment strategy to manage user assets, Haru Invest predominantly allocated the majority of these assets towards concentrated investments from March 2020 to June 2023. Haru Invest had garnered attention from crypto investors, promising an annual return of up to 12%.  Subsequently, on June 13, Haru halted the withdrawal of digital assets without prior notice. The platform is currently in the midst of bankruptcy proceedings.  Delio, having allocated some of its assets with Haru, also came under public scrutiny that same month when it ceased withdrawals just a day following Haru's questionable action.

It was reported earlier that proposed amendments to the Electronic Securities Act and the Capital Markets Act, which aim to legalize security tokens, will be submitted to the National Assembly later this month.Choi Won-young, the Managing Director of the Digital Division at Hana Securities, emphasized that this partnership seeks to establish a successful security token business model within the content and entertainment sector. The expectation is to introduce a new paradigm in the industry by making it easier for users to engage with content.Danal’s setback and resilienceMeanwhile, Danal Entertainment’s parent company, Danal, reported a net loss in the first quarter of this year, primarily attributed to the decline in the value of Paycoin (PCI). PCI is the native token of PayProtocol, Danal’s crypto payment platform. The loss was largely a result of PCI’s delisting from the member exchanges of the Digital Asset eXchange Alliance (DAXA). DAXA consists of the nation’s five largest crypto trading platforms: Upbit, Bithumb, Coinone, Korbit, and Gopax.Despite this setback, Paycoin (PCI) has managed to secure trading support from cryptocurrency exchanges Huobi, OKX, Bitget, and GDAC. Furthermore, Danal is taking measures to remedy the situation. They are focusing on providing major cryptocurrency payment solutions and wallet services within the Korean market, seeking listings on foreign crypto exchanges, and expanding their presence in global markets.Hana’s blockchain initiativesIn a separate development, the Hana Financial Group has recently been actively promoting businesses utilizing blockchain technology. Earlier this month, Hana Bank joined forces with Korean blockchain firm Trackchain to develop and operate a platform that facilitates art banking services based on Web3 technology. These services involve the exhibition, advertisement, and distribution of artworks.
