Partnership

notice published on the website of the Shanghai Municipal People’s Government on July 20 reported on the Conflux Tree Graph Technology and Ecological Development Conference, which was held in Shanghai over three days from July 18 to July 20. Over the course of the three-day event, the project announced a partnership with AnchorX, a Hong Kong-based fintech firm specializing in stablecoins, and Shenzhen-based Eastcompeace Technology.

The purpose of the initiative is to develop a stablecoin pegged to the offshore yuan (CNH), the version of China’s currency that circulates outside the mainland. The report outlined that in recent years, stablecoins and tokenized real-world assets (RWAs) have come to global attention.

Belt & Road Initiative

Given this backdrop, it was outlined that “creating an independent and controllable high-performance public chain system” could be of great benefit to China and its Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), which sets out to develop infrastructure across 150 countries to facilitate trade with China.

This is not the first point at which AnchorX has collaborated with Conflux. Back in February, the company received in-principle approval from the Astana Financial Services Authority (AFSA) in Kazakhstan to issue CNH-pegged stablecoins. Growing bilateral trade between Kazakhstan and China was cited as the rationale behind the license, given the need for cross-border payments.

At the time, it was outlined that the AxCNH yuan-pegged stablecoin would be issued on the Conflux blockchain. It’s unclear if this same stablecoin is the focus of this latest development or whether an entirely new yuan-pegged stablecoin will be issued.

AnchorX collaborated with Conflux in 2024 to bring about the issuance of AxHKD, a Hong Kong dollar-pegged stablecoin. The stablecoin runs on the Conflux blockchain, with the stablecoin issuer using OKLink Trust as its custodian.

TokenPocket, a multi-chain crypto wallet project, also outlined on X on July 21 that it too is involved in the partnership with Conflux and AnchorX. The project outlined that it will support the growth of stablecoin adoption, the development of cross-border payment solutions and the promotion of tokenized RWAs in international markets through the collaboration.

Pilot projects

TokenPocket went on to explain that the companies plan to launch pilot projects in Central Asia, Southeast Asia and other regions, building “a compliant, secure, and innovative fintech framework to boost the role of the Conflux ecosystem as critical infrastructure for cross-border trade.”

It was revealed at the conference that the mainnet release of Conflux 3.0 will occur in August. With the implementation of further optimized execution modules, the project expects 3.0 to result in a network throughput of 15,000 transactions per second (TPS).

These developments over the course of the weekend have had an impact on the unit price of Conflux’s native token, CFX. On July 19, the token was trading at around $0.1043. According to CoinMarketCap data, at the time of writing, it’s trading at $0.2232, a 2.58% increase over the past day.

Korbit Joins Hands with Shinhan Card and Good Neighbors for NFT CampaignKorean crypto exchange Korbit said Thursday that it is participating in the Cambodia Youth Independent Tuk-tuk Transportation IG Group organized by the Good Neighbors Global Impact Foundation to help create jobs and support economic stability for youths in Kampot, southern Cambodia. To do so, the exchange has launched a campaign with Korean credit card company Shinhan Card and the Good Neighbors Global Impact Foundation to issue environmental, social, and governance (ESG) donation certificates minted as non-fungible tokens (NFTs).Photo by Markus Winkler on UnsplashTuk-tuks, or auto rickshaws, are the main mode of transportation in Cambodia, offering a larger job market for youths who are looking to become financially independent. Yoo Tae-hyun, Head of the Platform Business Group at Shinhan Card, expressed his hopes that the campaign will empower the youths and help them become more independent.Campaign participationShinhan cardholders who wish to participate in the campaign can select “Tuk Tuk Donation Certificate NFT Campaign” found under the Areumin section in Shinhan’s app service Shinhan pLay. They can then make a donation with their card or card points and apply for an NFT. Korbit said that it would airdrop all NFTs to donors at the end of the campaign in December, which can be verified on Korbit’s NFT marketplace and Shinhan pLay app’s MyNFT service. The images minted on the donation NFTs, which depict Cambodian youths on tuk tuks, are a contribution from Park Hye-geun, an artist who has worked on children’s books, educational materials, and more.Notably, during a memorandum of understanding (MOU) signing ceremony last Monday, the three entities opted for an NFT certificate confirming their partnership instead of directly signing a document as a means to further implement NFTs into their collaboration.Boosting ESG efforts“We are pleased to contribute to creating a trend of making donations through NFTs and will continue to uphold our ESG management to have a positive impact on society,” said Oh Se-jin, CEO of Korbit. Meanwhile, Hyun Jin-young, CEO of the Good Neighbors Global Impact Foundation, applauded Korbit’s efforts to promote a culture of donation and address global social issues through the use of NFTs. He also stated that he looks forward to various technological collaborations with Korbit in the future.Korbit has previously worked with Shinhan Card on various cultural and artistic ESG activities, such as hosting an art fair in April in Seoul, where some 200 artists showcased their artworks.

Metaplanet issues more bonds to buy Bitcoin & opens U.S. subsidiary

Japanese Bitcoin treasury firm Metaplanet has opened a U.S. subsidiary company in Florida while also issuing 3.6 billion Japanese yen ($24.7 million) in bonds for the purpose of buying more Bitcoin.Photo by Kanchanara on UnsplashAccelerating the Bitcoin strategyIn an announcement on May 1, the company outlined that it had established Metaplanet Treasury Corporation in Miami, Florida. The firm cited the purpose of the subsidiary as a means through which it can accelerate its overriding strategy of accumulating more Bitcoin. Metaplanet CEO Simon Gerovich commented on X on the rationale behind locating the U.S. subsidiary in Florida, stating:”The reason for choosing Florida is clear: the state is rapidly emerging as a global hub for Bitcoin innovation, corporate adoption and financial liberalization.” Gerovich added that the newly formed company will enhance Metaplanet’s “around-the-clock operational capabilities across time zones.” The Metaplanet CEO sees the development as part of the firm’s evolution as a global Bitcoin treasury company.  $250 million capital raiseThe company stated that it had already established a corporate entity in the British Virgin Islands (BVI), with the U.S. addition enhancing the company’s ability “to respond to market dynamics with speed and precision.”  Metaplanet intends to raise $250 million in funding through the Miami-based entity, having launched it with initial capital of $10 million. It’s envisaged that the U.S. subsidiary can act as a vehicle to attract institutional investment.  Back in March it was reported that Metaplanet was investigating the idea of listing its stock in the U.S. At the time, Gerovich stated that the firm was “considering the best way to make Metaplanet shares more accessible to investors around the world.” As part of that process, Gerovich met with officials from the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and the Nasdaq.  In further U.S.-related developments, the company appointed Eric Trump, second son of U.S. President Donald Trump, to its strategic board of advisors in March. Last week, Metaplanet appointed David Bailey, CEO of Bitcoin Magazine, to its strategic board of advisors. Bond issuanceIn a separate development, Metaplanet has issued 3.6 billion Japanese yen ($24.7 million) in 0% ordinary bonds to purchase additional Bitcoin. The company used its EVO FUND as the mechanism through which it issued the bonds.  It has set out a goal of accumulating 10,000 BTC by the end of the year. Currently, the company holds 5,000 BTC. One community member believes that Metaplanet could hit this target as early as July on the basis of ongoing share dilution.Appearing on The Bitcoin Treasuries Podcast earlier this year, Metaplanet’s Director of Bitcoin Strategy, Dylan LeClair, described how prior to adopting its Bitcoin treasury strategy in 2024, the firm was a “zombie” on the Tokyo stock exchange with the pandemic having had a negative impact on the company’s fortunes.  He outlined that the company consolidated and dealt with some debt issues, but at that point it lacked a clear strategy. It then set out to replicate the success of U.S. Bitcoin treasury pioneer, Strategy (formerly MicroStrategy). On May 1 Gerovich posted on X that the company had achieved unrealized gains on Bitcoin exceeding six billion yen ($41.68 million).

PCI is the native token of PayProtocol, Danal’s crypto payment platform. The loss was largely a result of PCI’s delisting from the member exchanges of the Digital Asset eXchange Alliance (DAXA). DAXA consists of the nation’s five largest crypto trading platforms: Upbit, Bithumb, Coinone, Korbit, and Gopax.Despite this setback, Paycoin (PCI) has managed to secure trading support from cryptocurrency exchanges Huobi, OKX, Bitget, and GDAC. They are focusing on providing major cryptocurrency payment solutions and wallet services within the Korean market, seeking listings on foreign crypto exchanges, and expanding their presence in global markets.Hana’s blockchain initiativesIn a separate development, the Hana Financial Group has recently been actively promoting businesses utilizing blockchain technology.
