Ready to deploy capital

That’s according to details from a pitch deck disclosed by the Australian Financial Review on Sunday. The C1 Fund is ready to deploy substantial capital, ranging from $20 million to $50 million, to acquire private holdings in crypto companies. The fund is only interested in targeting companies that boast valuations of $300 million and above from their most recent funding rounds.

The crypto venture capital fund was co-founded by former Coinbase executives. Off the back of recent bullish momentum within crypto markets, the C1 Fund is reportedly eyeing significant discounts of nearly 80% on its investments.

Share purchase offer

The fund has extended an offer to purchase Animoca Brand shares at approximately $1.12, representing a 75% markdown from its last capital raise where shares were sold at around $4.50.

A few years ago, Animoca Brands, a firm that concentrates on blockchain gaming, non-fungible tokens (NFTs) and the metaverse, had been listed on the Australian Stock Exchange (ASX). However, in 2020, the company listing was removed due to the swapping of stock for crypto tokens. It still has involvement with Australia through equity investment from Australian firms Koda Capital and KTM Ventures.

In September, Hong Kong-based venture capital firm CMCC Global led a $20 million funding round into Animoca. At the time, it was suggested that funding would go towards further development of Mocaverse, an Animoca project involving the development of Web3-native tools geared towards the gaming and entertainment sectors.

Following some market uncertainty regarding the financial health of the company earlier this year, Animoca provided an update on its financial position, clarifying that it held $3.4 billion in cash and assets.

Chainalysis interest

The strategic move by the C1 Fund aligns with the recent uptick in the crypto space. Bitcoin (BTC), the market leader, surpassed the $40,000 price point in the first week of December, propelling the overall crypto market capitalization to over $1.6 trillion. At the time of writing, BTC hovers just over $40,000.

Similarly, the fund is weighing up an investment in American blockchain analysis firm Chainalysis, offering to acquire its shares at a substantial 63% discount from its latest capital raise.

Beyond traditional crypto assets, NFTs are experiencing a surge in market interest. A recent report by DappRadar revealed that NFT trading volume approached $1 billion in November, signaling a notable shift in user behavior. The average value of NFT transactions also witnessed a substantial increase from $126 to $270 in November.

The C1 Secondaries Fund was established in March, targeting $500 million worth of investment in blockchain, crypto, Web3 and fintech. As the C1 Secondaries Fund strategically positions itself amid the crypto market boom, its pursuit of discounted investments in industry giants like Animoca Brands and Chainalysis reflects the fund’s confidence in the sustained growth and potential of the digital assets sector.

Cultural content company Com2uS Holdings announced Monday that XPLA, its layer 1 blockchain, is now supported by on-chain content (OCC) aggregator Gall3ry. Photo by GuerrillaBuzz on Unsplash"We are pleased with the recognition of our technology and ideas, and with our collaboration with global mainnet XPLA," said Joseph Lee, CEO of Gall3ry. "We plan to provide various experiences based on our decade of expertise in the IP industry." Empowering multifaceted ownershipGall3ry offers an OCC tokenizer solution that converts off-chain data into on-chain tokens – mainly NFTs – boosting user engagement and revenue while building Web3 communities. It ultimately gives NFT holders a sense of true ownership because they can personalize their social identities and build connections with other users through their assets. In particular, they can display their NFT artwork on the Gall3ry platform to share with the community, which can lead to increased communication and engagement on social media platforms, thus lowering the barriers to entry for NFTs. Elevating gaming experiencesBy supporting the XPLA blockchain, users on XPLA can now experience an innovative and improved Play-to-Own (P2O) aspect of their favorite games. Now that Gall3ry’s solution is linked to XPLA, NFT holders will be able to experience more active and vibrant connections with each other, moving away from the now outdated concept of one-dimensional ownership on XPLA. "This partnership is a significant collaboration for XPLA and our NFT marketplace X-PLANET," said Paul Kim, Team Leader at XPLA. "It will provide new and diverse ways for holders to utilize their NFTs."

The collaboration aims to release a collection of 5,555 NFTs later this month.Photo by Andrey Metelev on UnsplashWhat is ‘The Moment3!’?Oddly, we know very little about the project. Its Telegram channel has just been established, it doesn’t have a website, while its Discord and Twitter channels are also recently established with modest followings. Anonymity is a feature in Web3 and perhaps that’s the approach this project is taking. Whatever the background, it has to be said that there must be some talent behind the project for it to secure the backing of an entity like AliExpress by way of this partnership. This recent announcement was initially made on AliExpress’ official Twitter account but that tweet has since been removed. The project itself tweeted out news of the partnership on Thursday. The Moment3!’s mission, as stated in its Twitter bio, revolves around utilizing NFTs to immortalize special moments on the blockchain.According to the project’s Discord channel, The Moment3! aims to connect with real-world businesses and provide NFT owners with benefits and exclusive rights beyond the collectible value.NFT debutThis marks AliExpress’ initial venture into the NFT market, although its parent company, Alibaba, has previously explored the Web3 space. In September 2022, Alibaba’s luxury shopping platform, Tmall Luxury Pavilion, introduced an immersive shopping metaverse experience and introduced the Meta Pass, granting users free access to virtual experiences.Alibaba-Centric Web3 projectsThere have been several other Web3-related investments and developments related to Alibaba Group companies in recent months.Last month, Alibaba Cloud, one of the world’s largest cloud computing companies, joined forces with the Avalanche layer one blockchain project to introduce “Cloudverse,” a launchpad facilitating the creation of personalized spaces within the metaverse for businesses. In April Alibaba Cloud was the co-organizer of the Web3 Festival, an event held in Hong Kong to showcase the autonomous Chinese territory for the development of the Web3 sector. The four-day event attracted 10,000 attendees. In early May, Artifact Labs, a Hong Kong-based start-up company that specializes in metaverse and Web3 product offerings, raised $3.25 million in a funding round led by Blue Pool Capital. The investment firm is the personal investment vehicle of Alibaba founders Jack Ma and Joe Tsai.NFT warningAliExpress, owned by Alibaba Group, is a global e-commerce platform that does not cater to customers in mainland China, despite being headquartered in China. The Chinese government prohibited all cryptocurrency transactions in September 2021. NFTs remained legal although authorities recently issued a warning on their use, together with some guidelines. With its new collaboration, AliExpress is expanding its reach into the Web3 space and exploring the potential of NFTs. As the release date approaches, anticipation grows to witness the specific features and benefits offered by the 5,555 NFTs that will soon be available to the public.

Playbux to introduce new funding mechanism instead of ICO

Web3 entertainment platform Playbux is set to embark on a public token sale in a departure from the more established initial coin offering (ICO) model favored by many crypto and Web3 platforms in the past.Photo by Mackenzie Marco on UnsplashFair community offering (FCO)Aiming to raise $150,000 later this month Playbux, a blockchain-based e-commerce metaverse platform that runs on the BNB chain, has opted for a fair community offering (FCO). As part of the FCO, it will provide pre-listing access exclusively to engaged users through Dubai-headquartered crypto investing platform Raiser, backed by Visa. In a series of posts on social media platform X on Monday, Raiser set out what it plans to bring to market by way of the FCO model.  According to the startup, FCO involves ranking project users based on on-chain activity, referrals, participation in educational quizzes and following the platform's X profile.  As the company puts it, “engagement is the king. The more interactive challenges you complete - the higher you climb on the Raiser.co leaderboard.” Users, depending on their ranking, gain the opportunity to invest in the project's token before its official listing on centralized exchanges. Raiser is being supported in its FCO model offering by market maker Kairon Labs. An alternative to ICOsThis community fundraising mechanism emerges as an alternative to ICOs, which, in the earlier days of crypto, became associated with fraudulent activities. The surge in ICOs between 2017 and 2018 led to a mix of success stories, like Ethereum raising $18 million in 2014. However, the funding mechanism was sharply criticized as it also attracted unsavory actors due to the lack of reporting requirements and accounting standards. In the aftermath of the ICO era, centralized crypto exchanges now mandate projects to lock a portion of their token supply at launch and vest some supply to prevent excessive dumping by investors. Raiser co-founder Kori Leon, who previously worked on the listings team at Binance, notes that Raiser's FCO process aligns with these stricter listing requirements while offering community members pre-listing token access, potentially reducing the urge to sell tokens immediately upon listing. Leon stated:”Our goal is to effectively support both the community and centralized exchanges, who show belief in the potential success of new projects through initial listings. Our unique platform rewards active community members and so assists exchanges in their strategic decisions.” Playbux's PBUX token, part of Binance Labs' incubation program and included in Visa's Asia Pacific 2023 accelerator program, will undergo a public FCO in late January, according to Leon. The metaverse-focused platform is known for its shop-to-earn experiences and customizable avatars. Playbux was founded by Thai entrepreneurs Tay Sitthisaktanakul and CEO Sarun Vichayabhai in 2022. This move by the firm through the utilization of FCOs signifies a shift away from the tarnished ICO model, acknowledging the importance of community engagement and responsible token distribution.
