amana makes 300 additional cryptocurrencies available to app users

Web3 & Enterprise·March 19, 2025, 3:07 AM

amana, a Dubai-based neo-broker, has announced that it is adding another 300 cryptocurrencies to its app.

450 crypto assets

A neo-broker is an online-based digital investment service provider that leverages technology and online tools to make investing and trading more accessible to the broader investing and trading public.

The firm announced the product expansion via a press release published on its behalf by GlobeNewswire on March 17. Prior to the announcement, amana had offered its service users access to 150 cryptocurrencies. Expanding the range to a total of 450 cryptocurrencies makes it the leading broker in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region in terms of the breadth of digital assets it has made accessible to users.

All-in-one service offering

The company described the offering as “unmatched,” allowing amana to firmly position itself as the go-to platform where the seamless trading of both traditional and digital assets is concerned.

amana believes that its offering fills a gap in the market. Most platforms, it claims, either cater to the digital assets market or the traditional finance market. The platform sees itself as an all-in-one solution, making it unnecessary for investors and traders to create multiple accounts.

Speaking to that gap in the market that the company wants to exploit, amana CEO Muhammad Rasoul stated:

“We’re making it easier than ever for our customers to trade digital assets alongside stocks, forex, and commodities—all in one place, with zero hassle.”

The firm added that the expansion isn’t just about offering a greater selection of digital assets. The announcement said that “it’s about seamless access, competitive pricing, and a frictionless trading experience.” The company described the amana app as “intuitive,” with the ability to empower both seasoned traders and new investors through the ease of trading within a few taps.

Alongside the 450 digital assets, the platform provides users with access to U.S. stocks, FX, commodities, gold and global exchange-traded funds (ETFs). amana also facilitates users to trade using leverage and to avail of automated investment plans. Futures products and contracts for difference (CFDs) complete the product offering lineup.

Having first launched in September 2022, the platform claimed recently that it has over 320,000 users accessing the service. Besides Dubai, amana has offices in London, Limassol and Beirut.

The company is not the first online broker to bridge the gap between traditional finance and digital assets. American commission-free trading platform Robinhood has made in-roads into crypto. The company has plans to roll out its crypto offerings to the Singapore market later this year.

UK-based neobank Revolut has expanded into the world of investing, including crypto as part of that offering. It emerged last year that the firm has plans to launch a stablecoin.

flatexDEGIRO, a European online broker that offers stocks, bonds and exchange-traded funds (ETFs), outlined last November that it plans to extend its product offering to include cryptocurrencies.

Travel booking startup targets Bitcoin investors with cashback offer

Travala.com, the Cayman-incorporated company that provides crypto-native travel booking service, has unveiled an enticing offer for Bitcoin investors, involving cashback paid in the leading cryptocurrency in collaboration with the AVA Foundation. This initiative, announced by the firm on the X social media platform on March 7, aims to reward travelers who pay for their bookings in Bitcoin, encompassing an array of travel options, from flights to hotels and activities spanning across three million destinations globally.Photo by Kanchanara on Unsplash10% BTC cashbackUnlike traditional cashback systems, where waiting periods for rewards can be lengthy, Travala.com ensures swift crediting of Bitcoin cashback into users' accounts within 24 hours after the completion of their trips. As part of this offer, cashback will be paid to the value of 10% of the customer’s spend, payable in Bitcoin. Since its establishment in 2017, Travala.com has positioned itself at the intersection of cryptocurrency and travel, offering a diverse platform for bookings across various properties, activities and airlines. With support for over 90 digital currencies, the platform remains focused on cryptocurrency adoption, while aiming to provide value and flexibility for its users. Mass adoption opportunityJuan Otero, CEO of Travala.com, emphasized the growing appeal of Bitcoin to mainstream audiences, buoyed by recent developments like the approval of the first Bitcoin spot exchange-traded fund (ETF) in the United States. Otero sees this initiative as a means to broaden the adoption of crypto for everyday transactions, providing travelers with an efficient way to utilize reward programs. The move towards Bitcoin-based rewards reflects the early stages of an industry-wide shift in travel loyalty programs. With traditional points-based systems losing traction, there's a burgeoning demand for innovative incentive schemes. Steve Hipwell, a contributor to the AVA Foundation, highlighted the success of the AVA Smart Program, which has already distributed over $2.1 million worth of travel rewards in AVA tokens to customers who completed trips booked through Travala.com. By integrating direct Bitcoin rewards, the aim is to capture an additional segment of travelers seeking ways to save on their journeys. Bitcoin stands out as one of the top three payment methods on Travala.com, accounting for approximately 9% of travel bookings on the platform. In 2023, travelers splurged over $5 million in BTC on flights, hotels and activities. Travel Tiger NFTsAccess to Travala's BTC cashback scheme comes with a degree of exclusivity. Users must possess a Travel Tiger NFT and stake 2,500 AVA tokens to activate Smart Diamond membership. This exclusivity stems from the limited availability of Travel Tiger NFTs, with only 1,000 in existence. These NFTs, minted on the Ethereum blockchain, serve as randomly generated utility collectibles. Market data from OpenSea places the floor price of Travel Tigers at 2.85 ETH, roughly valued at $11,165 at the time of writing. This tie-up with the AVA Foundation is not Travala’s first partnership. In November 2023 the company struck a deal with travel industry meta-search giant Kayak, allowing it to integrate with Kayak and enable platform users to search more effectively for travel deals. Back in 2019, the company had struck a similar partnership with accommodation booking platform Booking.com.

Not to be outdone, BitMEX also took to X, posting that “BitMEX invented the perp - now we’re reinventing options.”Photo by Viktor Forgacs™️ on UnsplashTaking on DeribitBitMEX made a name for itself in the industry by offering 100x leveraged perpetual swaps. It recently upped the ante to 250x for its Bitcoin perpetual swap prior to the halving. The company is now attempting to etch out a significant market share in the crypto options niche. To do so, it will have to compete with market leader Deribit. Deribit has been at the helm, accounting for 70% ($35.7 billion) of the $51.1 billion trading volume for Bitcoin options in April and maintaining its dominance since 2020. Despite challenges from large crypto exchanges like OKX and Binance, Deribit has held its ground. In discussion with The Block, BitMEX CEO Stephan Lutz said that the firm was targeting at least $500 million in trading volume within three months,  Zero trading feesIn a bid to attract traders to its new platform, BitMEX has devised a promotional campaign featuring zero trading fees on all options transactions throughout May. Moreover, the first 1,000 new traders joining the platform will receive a $20 bonus, further incentivizing participation. The platform also offers rewards based on trading volume, referred trading volumes and monthly trading competitions, injecting an element of competition and potential profit for active users. Upon conclusion of the promotional period, BitMEX's fee structure for options trading will align with its existing spot trading framework. This strategic move ensures a seamless integration of the options platform into BitMEX's ecosystem, providing users with a consistent and predictable cost model when trading across different digital assets.

KuCoin affiliate applies for license in Hong Kong amid identity mix-up

KuCoin affiliate applies for license in Hong Kong amid identity mix-upIn a recent development on the Hong Kong crypto scene, VAEXC Limited, a cryptocurrency exchange, has submitted an application for a crypto trading license. The move had sparked a misunderstanding as some reports suggested the application was submitted by a Binance-linked company when in fact, it turns out to be a KuCoin-affiliated entity.Photo by Stella P on UnsplashReporting confusionA report published in October by the South China Morning Post (SCMP) asserted that a newly established crypto exchange named HKVAEX appeared to be connected with global crypto platform Binance. In the meantime, it emerged more recently that an application for a trading license had been submitted by the similarly named VAEXC Limited. While many reports confused this entity with what is believed to be a Binance-linked company, subsequent reports have emerged to confirm that the application pertains to an entity associated with the Seychelles-incorporated cryptocurrency exchange, KuCoin. In response to these initial wayward reports, a HKVAEX spokesperson confirmed that the company is in the process of preparing a licensing application in Hong Kong but that it has yet to do so. The spokesperson stated:“We are still in the preparatory stages for the application” . . . “VAEXC is an entirely separate applicant, and our operations are completely independent.”Leveraging KuCoin technologyThe SFC updated the list of virtual asset trading platform applicants on Nov. 27, disclosing that Hong Kong VAEXC Limited submitted its application on Nov. 25. Operating under the name VAEX, the exchange places a strong emphasis on security and regulatory compliance, positioning itself as a next-generation, trusted virtual asset exchange.Backed by a team with extensive industry expertise and leveraging KuCoin Tech, VAEX aims to offer a secure, reliable, stable and user-friendly platform for crypto asset trading and management. In celebration of VAEX’s launch, KuCoin conducted a public testing campaign, featuring a 15,000 USDT prize pool for eligible KuCoin users and participants.Despite the recent scandals in Hong Kong’s crypto scene — including an alleged fraud at the JPEX crypto exchange and more recently still, an alleged Ponzi scheme orchestrated by unlicensed crypto exchange Hounax — the regulatory stance in Hong Kong remains unwaveringly positive where digital assets are concerned.Introduced in June, regulations in Hong Kong mandate cryptocurrency exchanges to apply for a Virtual Asset Service Provider (VASP) license from the SFC by June 2024 or face de-registration. Notably, unregistered exchanges are permitted to operate during the interim transition period.KuCoin’s investment arm, KuCoin Ventures, has also been active in Hong Kong. In March, the firm led a $10 million investment in CNHC, a Hong Kong-based stablecoin issuer. Three months later, amid a changing regulatory environment in 2023, the platform confirmed a tightening of its compliance procedures with the introduction of mandatory know-your-customer (KYC) identity checks.Meanwhile, it’s unclear as to what plans Binance has to expand in Hong Kong if any. The leading global exchange is facing very challenging legal issues in the United States currently. That could have a bearing on its plans in Hong Kong, while it remains unclear as to what level of involvement it has with HKVAEX.
