Reinvented music streaming

Tracks is a music streaming service that allows users to enjoy free high-quality music and artistic visuals through their TVs. The platform leverages Web3 technology to offer a variety of rewards based on the amount of time spent listening. In particular, the Label Foundation aims to make Tracks easily accessible to Web2 users around the world to serve as a bridge between Web2 and Web3.

“With the upcoming launch, numerous TV owners will be able to enjoy music for free, which resonates deeply with Label’s ethos, championing universal music accessibility without financial boundaries. We are happy that our collaboration with LG Electronics made this a reality,” Label Foundation said.

Rapid rise

Since its launch in July, Tracks has gained substantial popularity among younger generations, with its mobile app amassing over 150,000 users worldwide and more than 10,000 daily active users. The Label Foundation attributes this success in user acquisition to its user-centered approach, as opposed to the content provider-centered approach of traditional music streaming services.

As part of its monetization efforts, Tracks will also integrate a free advertising supported streaming television (FAST) service in the near future, which will allow users to access content like television programming and films without subscription fees.

Bitget Targets MENA Business Expansion

Bitget Targets MENA Business ExpansionBitget, the Seychelles-based cryptocurrency derivatives exchange, is setting its sights on the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) as the region emerges as a fast-growing crypto hub.The firm announced its expansion plans via a press release which was published on Thursday. With countries like the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Bahrain embracing crypto, more exchanges are taking notice and entering the market. Bitget has now joined the ranks of a series of crypto companies seeking to establish a foothold in the region.Photo by Kyle Glenn on UnsplashIncreasing crypto adoption and interestCiting the region’s impressive crypto adoption rate, which accounted for 9.2% of global transactions between 2021 and 2022, Bitget is capitalizing on the growing interest in digital assets. The UAE alone experienced a remarkable 400% increase in registered crypto businesses over two years, driving a surge in global digital asset trading by 10%. Moreover, blockchain-related educational programs have tripled in the region, which contributes to 8% of the overall mining hash rate. All of these are creating a favorable environment for Bitget’s expansion.Dubai officeTo support its entry into the Middle East, Bitget has opened an office in the heart of Dubai and has already hired 60 new employees for various mid and back-office positions. The company aims to scale its Middle East team further, with plans to hire 30 to 60 more professionals over the next two years.Bitget is not alone in recognizing the potential of the Middle Eastern market. Bybit, another major cryptocurrency exchange, recently obtained local licenses to operate in the digital assets space in the UAE, having moved its global headquarters to Dubai in April.OKX, one of the largest exchanges by volume, also received a Minimal Viable Product (MVP) Preparatory License from the Dubai Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (VARA). Binance is also eyeing the Middle East, with Binance Dubai poised to become the primary focus for the company’s development efforts, given regulatory challenges in Europe and the US.Global expansion strategyBitget’s expansion into the Middle East is part of its broader global scaling strategy. The company has already registered as a Virtual Asset Service Provider (VASP) in Poland and Lithuania, and it launched a localized Turkish website earlier this year.Founded in 2018, Bitget boasts a user base of over 8 million users across more than 100 countries, offering copy trading services. The company’s move to the Middle East showcases its determination to tap into new markets and solidify its position as a global player in the cryptocurrency exchange landscape. There’s been a lot going on at Bitget in recent months, in addition to these regional expansion plans. In May the company announced a corporate social responsibility project named “Blockchain4Youth,” cleverly identifying the importance of connecting with the younger demographic which is far more likely to drive crypto and blockchain adoption.Earlier this month it launched a crypto loans product offering while last week it provided transparency via its proof of reserves initiative, demonstrating a 223% level of reserves and outlining that the company is debt free.

VCs Say US Crypto Crackdown Opportunity for Asia

VCs Say US Crypto Crackdown Opportunity for AsiaA couple of Hong Kong-based venture capitalists told Bloomberg TV in an interview that aired on Tuesday that the current crypto crackdown in the United States is a boon for Asia and particularly for Hong Kong in establishing itself as a global crypto hub.© Pexels/lalesh aldarwishMartin Baumann, Managing Partner and Co-Founder of CMCC Global, one of Asia’s first VC funds focused purely on blockchain and crypto, said that “Hong Kong has always been a financial capital of Asia and we believe in this location.”Golden opportunityWhile the fund has a global mandate, it believes that investor focus is shifting away from North America towards Asia. Baumann’s colleague, CMCC Global Managing Partner and Co-Founder Charlie Morris said that “the US has been quite negative from the regulatory perspective and it really seems to us that the US is shooting itself in the foot with a machine gun.”Morris elaborated, stating that the US crypto crackdown is handing a golden opportunity to other world regions to lead on blockchain and crypto. Baumann chimed in to clarify that one third of all blockchain equity deals are currently being done in Asia. He maintains that most of the investment community in the West doesn’t appreciate the extent to which capital is being committed into the space by Asian entities.Morris expanded further: “We see places like Hong Kong having a real opportunity at this point in time to bring those firms and entrepreneurs to the city.”Launching $100M blockchain fundAgainst that backdrop CMCC Global is launching a $100 million fund, where funding will be allocated to blockchain projects. Specifically the duo are targeting crypto and blockchain firms at Series A and Series B funding stages. Baumann believes that in tandem with the fact that there’s a lot of innovation emerging in Asia, “there’s plenty of capital sitting on the sidelines waiting for the right entry valuations to pull the trigger.”While Baumann and Morris are majority stakeholders in CMCC Global, the Winklevoss twins (Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss) also have an equity stake in the business. Founders of the Gemini crypto exchange platform, they are investors alongside Hong Kong based Richard Li, who has a net worth estimated to be in the region of $4.6 billion.VC investment into crypto slowed down considerably since the onset of the most recent crypto winter. However, that activity has still been ongoing, something that is entirely different to the 2018 bear market when investment came to a complete standstill. In April, CMCC partnered with Switzerland-based Syz Group with the objective of establishing a funding vehicle with a minimum $50 million fund earmarked for crypto-centric hedge fund investment.Meanwhile, in speculating on the prospects of bitcoin, the CMCC duo expressed the view that double digit gains are well within reach. Morris envisages a Bitcoin unit price of $40,000 in 2023. From a long term perspective the CMCC co-founder suggested that “I can easily see us breaking all time highs and easily breaking $100,000 for bitcoin.”
