What is a Reduce-Only Order?

A Reduce-Only order is an order that is executed for the sole purpose of reducing the size of an existing position.

The order does not create a new position, but is only used to close some or all of the positions you currently have.

❓Why use it?

• It is used to prevent you from accidentally increasing your position in the opposite direction.

• It is set as a safeguard when placing a liquidation order to prevent unwanted new position entries.

💡Reduce-Only order example

If you hold a 10 BTC long position and place a Reduce-Only sell order for 5 BTC,

→ your existing position will be reduced to 5 BTC.

When to use it?

• Use as a composite strategy when setting up TP/SL orders

• To reduce position size to prevent auto close

⚠️ Reduce-Only orders are only available in One-way position mode. However, the Reduce-Only option is not available for Market orders, even in One-way mode.
