What is Risk Limit?

Risk Limit is a risk management system that increases the margin requirements required by the exchange as the size of your position increases.

Because high-frequency trading or holding large positions increases the risk of liquidation in the event of market fluctuations, the exchange will take the following actions based on the size of your position

• Increase Initial Margin.

• Increase Maintenance Margin

• Set a maximum position limit

How risk limits work and how to change them

Risk limits are usually designed in a tiered structure, which you can change through the Risk Limit Settings feature.

💡Example (based on BTCUSDT trading pair)

The larger the risk limit (maximum position), the more assets you need to deposit as margin, and the risk of liquidation may occur earlier.

Why are risk limits important?

• Prevent liquidation risk due to excessive leverage

• Prevent losses from spreading during market shocks (protecting the exchange as a whole, not just individual traders)

• Risk diversification measures for large position holders

Risk limits are a key mechanism for controlling traders' liquidation risk and maintaining the stability of the overall market.

Tips on Risk Limit

• Before trading, check the risk limit tableand set the appropriate level for your strategy.

• When trading at high multiples, it is important to avoid limit increases as much as possible and to size your positions with less capital.

• Don't forget to check the liquidation price as well, as higher limits can bring you closer to the expected liquidation price!
