Vitalik Buterin proposes EIP-7706: ‘Separate gas type for calldata’

Ethereum’s co-founder Vitalik Buterin proposed a governance proposal, EIP-7706, on the official GitHub on May 13, aiming to introduce a new gas type for calldata within the Ethereum network. The proposal suggests a separate fee market for calldata, with its own basefee and per-block gas limit, to bound the maximum calldata size of a block. Additionally, it introduces a new transaction type that includes max-basefees and priority fees for execution gas, blob gas and calldata gas, simplifying the basefee adjustment rules and ensuring consistency across gas types.
