Trump's crypto campaign raised only $59K beyond Winklevoss millions

June 21, 2024, 11:11 AM
Donald Trump’s presidential campaign, which began accepting cryptocurrency donations last month, has received a modest sum of $59,385 in crypto from 218 donors, excluding significant contributions from prominent figures like Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss. The Gemini founders each donated 15.47 Bitcoin, valued at about $1 million. However, the overall crypto contributions pale in comparison to the campaign’s total fundraising, which exceeds $260 million. Analysis by blockchain firm Breadcrumbs highlights that most crypto donations were processed through exchanges like Coinbase, with a smaller portion transacted directly on blockchains like Ethereum, Polygon and Base. Despite Trump’s recent endorsement of crypto, the method has not significantly boosted his campaign’s fundraising in this arena.
