U.S. August employment report to determine Fed rate cuts, says WSJ reporter

Nick Timiraos, chief economics correspondent for The Wall Street Journal, noted on X that the U.S. August employment report, which is slated to be released later today (Sept. 6), will determine the extent of the U.S. Federal Reserve's rate cuts. Specifically, the Fed may impose a reduction of 25 basis points (bps) by convention or opt for a bigger 50 bps move in response to sluggish employment and growing unemployment, Timiraos projected.
