Digital Chamber urges U.S. Ethics Office to ease crypto restrictions for federal employees

The Digital Chamber of Commerce has urged the U.S. Office of Government Ethics to reconsider its prohibition on federal employees holding cryptocurrency, according to CryptoSlate. In a Nov. 13 letter to Acting Director Shelley Finlayson, the blockchain advocacy group proposed allowing federal employees to own small amounts of digital assets. Current regulations, issued in 2022, ban federal workers from holding crypto, including stablecoins, due to potential conflicts of interest. The Chamber argued that limited crypto holdings would align with policies permitting restricted ownership of other financial assets, providing fair treatment and helping employees better understand the technologies they regulate. The Chamber’s request is part of a broader push for stablecoin legislation, emphasizing that USD-backed stablecoins could strengthen the dollar's role globally.
