Vancouver goes ‘Bitcoin-friendly’ as global interest surges
December 12, 2024, 1:27 AM
Vancouver City Council has passed a motion to become a "Bitcoin-friendly city" and explore the potential use of the cryptocurrency in municipal finances, according to Bloomberg. The decision was influenced in part by the recent U.S. presidential election, which saw Donald Trump become the President-elect. Mayor Ken Sim believes that other nations, provinces and states may follow suit, and Vancouver wants to be at the forefront of this trend. Calling Bitcoin “the greatest invention ever in human history,” Sim had proposed adding the cryptocurrency to the Canadian city's balance sheet in November.
