Standard Chartered lowers Ethereum price target, cites structural weakness

March 17, 2025, 1:27 PM
British bank Standard Chartered has cut its 2025 year-end price target for Ethereum from $10,000 to $4,000, warning that ETH’s structural decline is likely to continue, according to CoinDesk. The bank estimates Coinbase’s layer-2 network, Base, has reduced ETH’s market cap by $50 billion and expects this trend to persist. While Ethereum maintains dominance in key areas, its market position has been weakening. The bank predicts the ETH/BTC ratio will drop to 0.015 by 2027, its lowest level since 2017. Although ETH is expected to rise alongside Bitcoin, its underperformance is likely to continue.
