Crypto custody firm BitGo has officially added Stacks-based Bitcoin staking for eligible institutional clients.
Through the integration, institutional investors can earn staking rewards on native BTC without wrapping Bitcoin or moving it to an external bridge, while keeping assets in BitGo’s Qualified Custody. Participating institutions must pair and lock up STX equal to about 5% of their Bitcoin deposit position, and the structure carries a bond term of about six months. The staking rewards are paid from a BTC pool submitted by miners through the Proof of Transfer, or PoX, consensus mechanism during the Stacks block production process.

OpenUSD, a consortium stablecoin led by Visa, Mastercard, Stripe, Coinbase and Shopify, has finalized a low-cost fee structure for payment transaction volume, with management fees capped at $0.01 per transaction, CoinDesk reported, citing internal documents it obtained.
The operating entity, Open Standard, plans to charge a 0.1-basis-point fee on payment amounts, while applying a $0.01 cap to transactions of $1,000 or more. Under that structure, even a $1 million transfer would incur a fee of just one cent, bringing foreign-exchange and remittance costs close to zero.
The documents also show OUSD aims to differentiate its revenue model from USDT and USDC. Rather than monopolizing reserve interest, OUSD plans to deduct only minimal operating fees and distribute reserve-interest income directly to ecosystem partners. It has also created an equity accrual pool, with a minimum participation threshold of $50 million and a 5% cap per company, allocating project equity based on partners’ asset holdings and payment distribution volume.

He said Binance’s security team preempted 57 cases over the course of the year and described them as evidence of a persistent threat from state-backed hacking groups targeting the crypto industry. The attack methods included fake job interviews, malware disguised as popular developer tools, tampered software packages and browser extensions, fake video conferencing applications, and social engineering campaigns designed to steal credentials or distribute remote-control malware. He added that Binance stopped many of the attacks in advance, but said the cost of a single defensive failure was too severe and that the incident should never have happened.

Lorenzo Valente, head of digital asset research at ARK Invest, said a string of major cryptocurrency thefts amounts to a “Hidden Tax” that erodes the sector’s competitiveness and raises the cost of storing value.
Valente said that just as retailers pass theft-related losses on through product prices, the blockchain industry ultimately shifts hacking losses to end users through higher fees and security premiums. According to the data cited, the virtual asset industry’s average annual market-cap loss rate from hacks since 2018 reached 24 basis points, or 0.24%. By comparison, the loss ratio from fraud and financial incidents in the U.S. traditional banking system was 1.7 basis points, or 0.017%, meaning the crypto industry’s loss burden was estimated at about 14 times that of traditional finance.

The record $6.3 billion hot wallet hack at Binance on Oct. 29 was carried out through internal infiltration via a fake job interview by a North Korean hacking group, according to Reuters and industry analysis.
The attackers used “Contagious Interview,” a tactic widely associated with North Korea’s Reconnaissance General Bureau. They offered a DevOps engineer an attractive fake job opportunity and sent malware disguised as a coding test program, gaining access to Binance’s internal network through the compromised laptop. The attackers then exploited a hot wallet auto-signing module across 10 mainnets and stole a large amount of funds in just 20 minutes.

A California federal court is reviewing allegations that World Liberty Financial (WLFI), a venture led by President Donald Trump’s family, manipulated and concealed its nationality after the fact to evade federal jurisdiction, Tron founder Justin Sun said.
Sun said he had previously filed a motion seeking strong judicial sanctions against World Liberty and defense counsel in the California federal court. According to Sun, WLFI initially told the court at the start of the case that it was a Florida-only entity, satisfying the requirements for federal jurisdiction, but after its attempt to send the dispute to private mandatory arbitration was effectively blocked, it abruptly added 22 ownership entities and began arguing the case should be dismissed for lack of jurisdiction by claiming United Arab Emirates nationality. Sun argued that WLFI had marketed and sold tokens as a thoroughly U.S.-based taxpaying company in its white paper, then invoked an offshore nationality to avoid litigation.
