This leadership transition comes as part of a broader organizational restructuring, coinciding with the agency’s intensified focus on uncovering undisclosed digital assets and expanding audits and criminal investigations into crypto-related tax evasion. The restructuring also reflects wider shifts within the IRS, which has reportedly seen more than 23,000 employees express intent to resign following the Trump administration’s reintroduction of a deferred resignation program.
