Sei Labs proposes transition to EVM-only network architecture

Sei Labs has submitted a governance proposal to transition the Sei blockchain to an Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM)-only architecture, according to The Block. The proposal calls for the deprecation of CosmWasm—Cosmos’s native smart contract platform—and the discontinuation of support for native Cosmos accounts. The proposed shift aims to streamline Sei’s infrastructure to improve both usability and performance. While the network currently supports both EVM and Cosmos-native accounts, Sei Labs noted that this dual architecture creates unnecessary complexity for developers and introduces friction for users. By simplifying the architecture and leveraging EVM parallelization, Sei Labs believes the network can significantly increase transaction throughput and enhance the overall developer experience.
