U.S. Democrats propose bill to kerb politicians’ involvement with cryptocurrencies

May 22, 2025, 4:43 PM
In the U.S. a group of 14 Democrats, led by Rep. Maxine Waters, has introduced a bill (Stop Trading, Retention, and Unfair Market Payoffs in Crypto Act of 2025) to address concerns about the president’s involvement in the cryptocurrency market and to end “crypto corruption,” The Block reported. The bill would ban the president, vice president, members of Congress and their immediate families from owning enough stakes in specific cryptocurrencies that would enable them to unilaterally make changes to them. CoinNess previously reported that U.S. Democratic Party lawmakers were planning to stage a protest ahead of Trump’s memecoin-related dinner in Washington on May 22.
