U.S. congressional divide deepens as Republicans prepare crypto bills for 'Crypto Week'

U.S. congressional tensions over digital assets are rising ahead of what's being called "Crypto Week" next week, during which Republicans plan to advance three crypto-related bills, according to Cointelegraph. The legislation focuses on payment stablecoins (GENIUS Act), crypto market structure (CLARITY Act) and central bank digital currencies (Anti-CBDC Surveillance State Act).
Democrats have pushed back, with House Financial Services Committee Ranking Member Maxine Waters criticizing the bills for lacking consumer protections and national security safeguards, and warning they could align Congress with what she described as a crypto scam linked to President Donald Trump. Digital Assets Subcommittee Ranking Member Stephen Lynch also raised concerns about the potential for abuse and oversight gaps in the crypto space.
