Bitcoin has regained buying support around $80,000 after a sharp drop, while a move above the $85,000-$87,500 range and upcoming macro events are emerging as key factors for the market’s next direction, Glassnode said.
Glassnode said Bitcoin fell to around $80,000 on Oct. 15, local time, slipping slightly below the average entry prices of U.S. spot ETFs and corporate treasuries, but buying at that level recovered within days. The firm said the average cost basis of holders with six to 12 months of holdings, sell-order supply, and large liquidation volumes are now concentrated in the $85,000-$87,500 range. It added that the Federal Reserve’s rate decision on Oct. 28 and MSCI’s announcement of stocks to be removed from its indexes on Nov. 11 are key variables, with Strategy (MSTR) potentially among the names to be excluded.
Glassnode added overheating in the altcoin market and funding rates have eased from their peaks. Open interest, however, has declined only slightly, suggesting leveraged positions in the market remain largely intact.

Canada’s peer-to-peer cryptocurrency trading volume has closely tracked changes in the number of temporary visa holders, according to Chainalysis.
The analysis found that since mid-2021, P2P trading volumes in Canada have moved in line with changes in the number of international students from India, China and the Philippines. Monthly volume peaked at around 650,000 transactions in the spring of 2024. After government policy changes cut visa issuance by more than half, P2P trading volume also declined. Chainalysis said the relationship reflects correlation rather than direct causation, although the same pattern held during both increases and declines.

As of mid-October 2026, the Avalanche network was hosting 1,255 tokenized RWAs worth more than $13 billion, including about $484 million in assets from BlackRock’s BUIDL fund. Solana has formally launched Alpenglow, a major mainnet consensus-mechanism upgrade aimed at significantly improving network speed and efficiency, Cointelegraph reported.
The upgrade is Solana’s first major protocol overhaul and replaces its existing TowerBFT consensus model. Its core goal is to cut transaction finality time by about 99% to around 150 milliseconds from roughly 12.8 seconds. As part of the first phase, Votor introduces a direct validator voting system, while the Rotor protocol, designed to help distribute block data, is set to follow. If speed falls to around 150 milliseconds, the network would reach responsiveness comparable to existing Web2 infrastructure, enabling a range of high-performance applications including ultra-fast payments and trading settlement. Anza researchers on Solana’s development team described it as “the biggest change since the network was created.” Solana also plans to follow up in December with the Agave 4.5 upgrade to improve swap routing and trade execution pricing.

Strive CEO Matt Cole said Bitcoin-based digital credit products could be more competitive than traditional bond investments, according to Bitcoin Treasuries.
Cole said prices for U.S. Treasuries with maturities of more than 20 years have fallen 50% over the past six years. By contrast, he said that even if STRC were to fall by a similar amount, accumulated returns could offset the loss and keep total returns positive. Cole added that interest income from U.S. Treasuries is effectively minimal and that conventional income-focused fixed-income investing is no longer working properly. Given that backdrop, he said, the return structure of Bitcoin-based digital credit products may be more advantageous than traditional bonds.

The service will apply to 10 products, including the Grayscale Avalanche Staking ETF (GAVA), Bitcoin Mini Trust ETF (BTC), Ethereum Staking Mini ETF (ETH), and Solana Staking ETF (GSOL).

Vault12, a crypto wallet backup service provider, said the U.S. SEC’s draft Safe Harbor framework for cryptocurrencies does not provide enough legal certainty for token listings on centralized exchanges, CoinDesk reported.
In a comment letter submitted to the SEC on Oct. 20, Vault12 said exchanges remain reluctant to list tokens because regulators could still revisit whether a token is a security in the future. The company raised $17.45 million in 2018 from 38 investors through agreements for future token delivery. However, its native Vault Guardian Token, or VGT, has yet to be listed on any centralized exchange. Vault12 said regulatory uncertainty remained unresolved in the listing process even after it had either fulfilled or formally withdrawn all commitments laid out in its white paper.

Charles Edwards, founder of crypto quant investment firm Capriole Investments, said Bitcoin’s fair value based on energy consumption stands at $131,057, putting the current price at about 36% below that level.
Edwards said the valuation model estimates Bitcoin’s energy value using mining hash rate, hardware efficiency, and the rate of supply growth. He added that while Tesla founder Elon Musk has said the value of future money will be measured by physical metrics such as watts and energy rather than dollars, Bitcoin is already linked to energy through its proof-of-work mechanism.

The Blockchain Association, a U.S. crypto lobbying group, submitted a comment letter to the U.S. SEC on Oct. 20 seeking to raise the exempt fundraising cap for crypto issuers to $10 million from $5 million, The Block reported. The letter responded to the SEC’s proposed “Regulation Crypto Assets” released in August.
The group also proposed raising the general fundraising exemption limit to $150 million from $75 million over a 12-month period. In addition, it called for codifying guidance tied to the Howey Test, which is used to assess whether an asset is a security, and allowing third parties to apply for regulatory treatment covering tokens already in circulation.
Earlier, the SEC said it would continue accepting comments on the proposed rules for crypto issuer fundraising even after the formal comment period had ended.
