James Howells gives up search for 8K BTC he lost 12 years ago

James Howells, an IT engineer who accidentally threw away a hard drive containing 8,000 BTC in 2013, has given up his search, according to an X post by Bitcoin Archive. As a result, the tokens are now considered lost permanently. Those BTC coins, which amounted to $6.5 million when Howells discarded them, have now soared to $950 million in value. Over the years, he has repeatedly asked Newport City Council to allow him to inspect the landfill, but his requests have been turned down.
