Analysis: Stablecoins, DeFi could sharply cut financial costs
August 14, 2025, 2:55 AM
Jamie Coutts, Chief Crypto Analyst at Real Vision, wrote on X that stablecoins could remove trillions in economic friction, boosting merchant profit margins, enabling new value transfers and accelerating monetary circulation. He said decentralized finance (DeFi) is set to sharply reduce credit costs, citing International Monetary Fund (IMF) data in support.
In the U.S., blockchain providers already offer home equity lines of credit more than 1% cheaper than traditional options, with $11 billion outstanding. Coutts estimated this could unlock up to $1 trillion in global economic value each year.
