Analysts downplay impact of UK lifting retail crypto ETN ban

Although retail investors in the United Kingdom are once again permitted to invest in crypto exchange-traded notes (ETNs) starting Oct. 8 after a four-year ban, experts have assessed that the development is not a significant positive catalyst.
According to a report by BeInCrypto, analysts welcome the improved accessibility to crypto but note that the change has limitations. ETNs do not require investors to hold the underlying crypto asset directly, and the ban on retail investment in derivatives like options and futures remains in place. Experts stressed that further progress is needed to allow individuals to gain direct exposure to spot crypto assets.
CoinNess previously reported in August that the UK's Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) had decided to lift its prohibition on retail investment in crypto ETNs.
